Maybe it's the future of journalism. We can no longer trust the media or the government or the police to tell the actual news, better if local people go out and speak to everyday people and put it online. Modern journalism has been hijacked and gagged.

I recently left the Gorton area to move to the Peak District. The final straw was walking past a passed out drug addict with a needle still in his arm at 8am with my two young girls. I’ve lived in some rough places in my time but Manchester was a joke. The people, pollution, politics, policing, mindset and violence is a disgrace. And for some reason the housing prices are high. You couldn’t pay me to live there
im thinking of moving to the lake district i want peace and countryside and houses are fairly priced compared to other places. how are you finding living there
we moved out of Openshaw in the 60s, the family came from gorton they moved on to southport, the difference in the next generation unbelievable, i was brought up in glossop, i wouldn't move to manchester for a gold clock, enjoy the countryside fella and bring your kids up with respect.
To be perfectly honest, it is not the poverty that causes this. I grew up in poverty but back when I was a child my parents took a pride in their surrounding area. They didn’t drop litter they swept the pavement in front of their house and kept everything clean and tidy. In other words they respected their country. Children were given love and attention and discipline. Something sadly lacking in today’s society where parents typically ignore the children their minds on their in their phones all the time. I am Scottish but i live in Manchester and all I hear is people shouting that they are proud to be English, well if you’re proud to be English clean up your act and clean up your country, because right now it’s one large slum and absolutely nothing to be proud of. Things need to change. When I was young, police walked their beats and they knew everyone in their communities. Now they sit in cars, detached from everyone in their area, not knowing anyone. The days where police protected and served are gone. So the government needs to change the laws and allow people to protect and serve themselves, because right now the law states that if we protect ourselves, we are the ones charged with assault. Apparently, we are just meant to stand there and allow someone to take a machete or a knife to us; a have at it kind of thing. Well, not this lady, come at me with a machete and I’ll hurt you, law be damned. Until the police get back to walking their beats and protecting the citizens that live there, I’ll protect myself. Period.
Those resources where stolen by voting in tory for 14 years thry stole everything and the people believed them that it's the poor that are the problem.
Well said. Civic responsibility for our own areas these day is pathetic. People used to take pride in where they lived. And, the imports don’t care one iota.
It's interesting reading what you are saying and I agree whole heartedly. I had some students come to my academy in the UK from Sweden and they said they could not believe the state of the streets and the litter everywhere.

Years ago when there was a death on the street in the community, natural or otherwise people would all draw their curtains for a period of time as a mark of respect. It was a common practice and I've seen it happen in more modern times living in the North West after the death of a young boy everyone had their curtains drawn for a day or two.
@@sweeneytodd011 I can give a little background or history about the curtain drawing after a death. This "tradition" with curtain drawing was created as a mark of respect to a deceased person and/or to the family of the deceased to give them privacy and time to grieve properly without prying eyes. It became a thing in the 18th Century in the UK (maybe in some other parts of the world too) because of the amount of people dying due to health issues and deteriorating conditions at the time. There are other "traditions" we have with different coloured curtains but you can look that up online yourselves if you want to know more about it.

I grew up in moston in the 80s and 90s, back then all the shops on moston lane was family owned businesses, everyone knew each other. Saturdays was shopping day on the lane with all that you would need to get you through the week, neighbours was the second family members and would look out for each other, you needed sugar and milk you just shouted over the wall to borrow some. Never had any issues growing up there, yes I might have been a feral kid, but I always listened and respected my elders! Now moston is referred to has mostonbique ? Everything changes and moston has been followed suit.
It never used to be like this, the part I am in used to be quiet, no trouble, but now its turning into as hell hole with all the fresh off the boat new arrivals, my partner and I are going to sell up and go as all the houses around us have been bought up and used for social housing, unfortunately they are not the most considerate of people who have moved in, besides the language barrier they just dont consider other people.

I'm from Moston and grew up on Winston Road. In the 80s, it was a decent place to live, but drugs took the area in the 90s, and it turned into a shithole from then. There's too many places in Manchester as bad as Moston nowadays.
I'm the 80s it was not a decent place to live. What crap are you talking about? In the 80s Moston was a drug addicted theiving area. I worked there for 30 years.
The drugs hit Manchester in the mid 90s the most you would find is someone smoking abit of rocky and piss heads around 95 early 2000 thousands was when the rot we see today started
I agree, I was born in moston in the 60s when it was quite a decent place. It's heartbreaking what's happened to the UK , except for the more affluent areas of course.
@yesyoureright I was a child during the 80s, and that was my experience. I used to be out from morning until dark, especially in the summer, and we barely had any problems, and our parents seemed to think we would be ok. That was all parents, by the way, so that's why I believe it was decent in that era. Maybe it was just the community I lived in where everyone knew each other and on the whole looked out for each other.
Born and raised there from 83. Left around 2000, mum and dad left last year. It was great bsck im the early 90s, there was drugheads but most people knew each other, maybe i see ir different as i was a kid back then but it has got a lot worse in recent times

I grew up around Gorton in the 1960's and went to school just at the back of where you were filming. I honestly don't remember it being that much different. There were stabbings back then. There were murders back then. Don't forget that's where the Moors murderers were from orginally. During the 1970's there was investment into the areas but by the 1980's it was just as bad. I lived next to drug dealers in the 1980's and the streets were filthy back then. I lived in Gorton until the early 90's and couldn't let my kids play out on the street because there were crack addicts on the street corners. I eventually moved out to the suburbs where I live now but even there there are pockets of crime. It isn't the lack of investment. It's the individual people who make bad choices, a lack of education and a lack of awareness that there is a different way to live. I don't pretend to know what the answer is. You can invest into an area but unless the people take pride in what they have it will soon deteriorate back into squalor. In this country there seems to be a mentality that the government should look after you and that mentality is worse in deprived areas. It's almost like learned helplessness where people think that is their lot in life and they they can't escape it so take no responosility whatsoever for their own surroundings or their own behaviour.

That building was Hough Hall. A beautiful Tudor building back in the day but unfortunately sits on land that is prime for shoving flats onto it. An overseas buyer got it based on planning permission to build those flats but couldn’t afford the upkeep of the hall. I suspect that a few quid was handed out to the local scroats to destroy it bit by bit until it was declared unsafe. That buyer passed the hall on.
I think I commented on one of your previous videos, but I'll say it again. I live in an area close to stockport (not far from gorton). makes me thankful for my community. not much litter, kids having fun playing outside, people saying hello, barely any crime (violent at least).
I use to live in Gorton in the 60s, 70, 80s and 90s, when it was a lovely Place. It was very clean. The gardens were kept tidy and all my neighbors knew each otherm I use to walk down Barndard road to school. It was so safe then. It's so sad how it's gone.
My mom worked on Moston Lane and I was born on the border of Harpurhey and Blackley. Once, mainly indigenous working-class and not blighted by drugs and so forth. Now, the culture is in free fall - while rich individuals buy mansions in the city centre.
What culture? Drinking in pubs all day? That's what ruins areas. People become alcoholics because they follow so-called English culture. This then leads people to drugs and brings in the violence and gangs.
I was in Gorton last year for the first time in 20 odd years, I’m Scottish but always had family in and around that area. When you subtract the interest payments on National debt along with long term liabilities like NHS +PFI, Education, Benefits, Pensions, Foreign Investment, you end up with little to pay the said interest on the Debt and local services such as street cleaning are a outcome of all that. Hi Billy, thanks for your vid mate. It looks just like other rundown areas in England. We now live in unsafe and frightening times were most people just aren't happy anymore. Thanks again Billy. 🥴👍
Moston used to be a predominantly owner occupier area but in the last few decades has degraded into mostly rental. Young people used to be able to afford a first home there but can't nowadays because even for the 2 up 2 down terraces they are priced out by landlords, often foreign nationals, who buy sight unseen and pay over the odds because they know they can charge between £800 and £1000 rent per month! That's where a big part of the scandal lies - absolute profiteering. We urgently need some form of rent control in the UK. Who pays those sky high rents? the taxpayer does via housing benefits, that's who! the poor people who live in them cant afford those kind of rents from what income they have, If they could then they'd be able to get a mortgage on a house somewhere better than Moston! I'm not advocating for a lower cap on housing benefits because that would just increase homelessness and suffering in the short term, but I am in favour of a cap on rents to discourage absentee fat cat landlords from hoovering up housing stock. I make no comment on the huge influx of migrants over the same period save to say that it hasn't "helped". Incidentally the demolished half timbered building is what remains of Hough Hall which may have been built around 1604, when Shakespeare was writing plays and Guy Fawkes was plotting against Parliament!. It's a crying shame that such a part of local heritage has met such an end after roughly half a century of neglect.
What the fuck are you on about? We've had an aggressively right-wing government in the UK for 14 years - the period in which social decline has spiralled out of control. If you mean "liberal" as in people who believe only in the free market and dog eat dog, then perhaps you have a point

There's more to the decline of this country than poor policing and the prevalence of the mobile phone. Demographic change has played a major part.

Well said.
Civic responsibility for our own areas these day is pathetic.
People used to take pride in where they lived.
And, the imports don’t care one iota.

That is not true what you heard about China.
Lol what? You must be a bot. One word. Triads
China controls propaganda so don't believe everything you read.
they do have social credit system facial recognition and twenty four hour surveillance etc

The psychiatric profession is not doing it's job [speaking as a former senior nurse of 26 years!].
It seems the whole health care system has failed 😢

Hi Billy, one of the best podcasts I've seen in a while, bad situation but liked the fact you were on the ground investigating rather than hearsay. Well done.
Love watching these videos as it's interesting listening to real stories from real people keep up the good work billy but please try to stay safe also mate.
Not a bird anywhere. Not even a sparrow the whole area looks run down and dead. Litter everywhere potholes in all the footpaths run down buildings and grotty shops. I left England in the mid 60s and this is not the place I remember as a child. To see things in this condition is quite heart-breaking actually I am lost for words.
I did hear a magpie and some gulls actually. x
@@missmuffet3874 Thanks miss. Nearly restored my childhood memories until I re listened and I think it was the afternoon call to prayer.
Such sad times we live in now. Really enjoyed watching the full video, we would never see this on TV. Keep up the great work Billy. And take care.
Great channel for coverage of real news.
Billy you’ve got some 🎱 🎱 mate, a scouser in a rough ass part off Manchester with a camera, I take my 🧢 off! Keep up the great work, real life videos that show life as it is, no frills & no 🐂 💩 👍🏻👍🏻
What a brave young lady Mia.
God bless her. ❤
The gates of Hell have been opened ..it's happening all over here in Scotland...trying to set up some community workshops for violence and mental health awareness …but its really tough going …..thanks for theses video's mate …your doing a great job spreading awareness mate ..This is horrific stuff but we all need to know the real extent of the dysfunctional state of people at their wits end ..That lad if he maybe had the right support it's all about intervention. My God I'm literally praying right now 🙏🙏🙏
Manchester and Liverpool are so alike, dare to say most areas just outside major cities are the same up and down the country.
I’ve family in Groton, other family that moved out a few years ago, lived in West Gorton myself many years ago for a short while ( where the very first Shameless series was filmed ), got the scar to prove it and that’s not just a saying.
You get people that run an area down but most are good people, keep their house and garden, even the streets clean, just take a look at the streets around where that terrible event happened.
Moston and New Moston are exactly the same, most just getting on with their lives but there’s others that don’t give a s#£t, a lot go down the wrong path in the suburbs of any town or city as you it’s the same in Liverpool, Birmingham etc.
It’s at night when you see what these places are really like, they won’t like the camera though Billy.
I'd like to know where that Andy Burnham is in all honesty! Thanks for your comment, and I hope your family are all well 🙏🏻🇬🇧

Big respect billy enjoying what your doing with your channel. Its people of your caliber i will support. Remind me of my uncles staunch! Not guys like Charlie veitch and looking glass. These guys could never walk around the city like you brother
What that John was trying to say was the area is different now as its heavily dominated by people from Africa whereas 10 years ago it wasn't.
Great coverage thank you 🏴
Welcome to Moston Billy. I live there, and it's not as rough as people say. On my street there was never any crime, according to a retired police officer mate of mine. Cheers. Love your vlogs.
have you seen the beaches of belguim... thousands waiting for their turn, and the beach has become a dump site.
it's all over every European country which chooses not to enforce their borders. So this is deliberate.
Import the 3rd world, become the 3rd world. Happening right in front of our eyes!
UK has a £2.2 Trillion GDP per annum, with 1.1 Trillion raised from taxes. 5th in the world for GDP, 27th in the world for GDP per capita. Areas of the country look third world and some areas like war zones. The maths ain't mathing. Every person in this country needs to wake up and start to rebell. They're treating us like fools
We've just had a general election - the new government is tasked with cleaning up the mess caused by the last 14 years, so we don't need a 'rebellion' to make things more difficult.
Wars of the roses previous wars
When you subtract the interest payments on National debt along with long term liabilities like NHS +PFI, Education, Benefits, Pensions, Foreign Investment, you end up with little to pay the said interest on the Debt and local services such as street cleaning are a outcome of all that. National Debt currently £3 Trillion rising rapidly since Blair 1997. GDP is an allusion as it is all long term debt.

Their are worst areas than Gordon in Manchester. The problem is the same in every inner city area, we are not allowed to voice our concerns…..
What are the concerns and who doesn’t allow you to voice them?
Smoking weed and listening to RAP music destroys these young men’s minds
Very true indeed.
Its so true because i was a victim of it myself. Im from Manchester and growing up was the same, the music makes you want to become something. Very powerful. I only changed through meditation and awakening.
Yep rap music the soundtrack to the death of the west. I live in America where the stupid crap was invented.
Drinking beer and watching Rambo messes with a lot of minds too?
You won't find peace untill you turn again to christ 🙏✝️
You were a great nation when your hearts were with Lord of peace . Look at your cities now 😢💔
Religion is nothing but false hope.
Excellent Billy .. bringing the truth as usual’s.. back in the day world in action or panorama would have recruited you ,to bring out the real inner cities.. sadly nowadays nobody gives a flying fcck.. dog eat dog.. you could have chosen any of the nearby areas . Collyhurst, Newton Heath,Ancoats,Blackley,Beswick,Ancoats all blighted with the same issues ..Great work 👍🏻
Maya is a sweet girl who has witnessed something that will stay with her forever, no one should have to witness this type of thing! The entire country is failing in all areas!,
Fkn tragic 😢 Thoughts are with the victims their families and loved ones. Thanks for the upload. We need more citizen journalists because no one trusts MSM anymore. 😡
Unimaginable!! For any family to have this loss. My heart genuinely breaks for them all, the monster took your loved ones, but he can never take your memories, they are yours forever. So much love sent to you all from a mum, granny, sister, and aunt.
Thats awful that poor girl and her family and omg my condolences go out to the lady who lost her life and her family.
Is it a coincidence that these terrible things are happening? I honestly don't know but it feels like a lot are reaching their breaking point. People are turning on each other worse than ever.
Thanks mate, you're putting it right there to be seen .... contrary to what councils and the government want us to see.

Moston and Gorton are 2 of the roughest places to live I'm manchester.
No way Moss Side always been worse.. Teenagers getting shot and killed for their bike and nikes. Go for a takeaway and you can be in the middle of a shoot out. You can still see bullet holes to this day of where shoot outs have gone down

Pick a side of Manchester, every corner is terrible.
I used to drive ambulances around Moston and Harpurhey, back in the day. Good to see the Gardners is still open, I've had a few pints in there.
what is this country coming to - my god.

Exactly. Blame the right folk. They couldn't give a f@#k about the people
Hi Billy, thanks for your vid mate.
Makes me sick that young lady has to live with that all of her life.
Weak Governments due to Liberal voters will create Dictatorship
She will need some counselling 😢🙏
What the fuck are you on about? We've had an aggressively right-wing government in the UK for 14 years - the period in which social decline has spiralled out of control.
If you mean "liberal" as in people who believe only in the free market and dog eat dog, then perhaps you have a point
Something very strange is going on. It’s getting more strange by the day. All I care about are my kids and grandchildren. Thank you for showing us the truth.
