Awesome video! This is actually a black bear even though it is brown in color, the name "black bear" and "brown bear" refer to two distinct and very different species of bears that are common to North America. Black bears are much smaller then brown bears and are often times significantly less aggressive. I am a biologist in the Tahoe Basin studying black bear behavior and would love to know an estimate of where on the trail this video was taken. It looks a lot like a similar bear to one we have been monitoring this spring/summer.
