3.) Dodge his limbo clones. On top of that produce a jutsu that genuinely terrified him. Terrified him even more than Night Guy.
Madara felt like it was entirely possible for him to lose. The dance was over. He didn't want to play any more which is why he scrambled to get the 2nd Rinnegan and after obtaining it immediately hoped to a jutsu that would distract the heroes long enough to use the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

You can see that he only starts increasing the difficulty after the army think they have a chance.
At first he was just using core hand-to-hand combat techniques because the army didn't pose too much of a threat or he just wasn't impressed enough to give them his all.
Then he started increasing his use of swords and utilities but only when the army started using them.
only when the army started using ninjutsu did he use his fire-style ninjutsu.
He started using his Sharingan and rinnegan when the Tsuchikage used his particle-style.

One hilarious detail about the fight against the army that really shows the level of disrespect Madara was putting out is that he kept things to the army's level at all times.
When he first went in, he was fighting using hand to hand because they were fighting hand to hand.
When they started using weapons he started using weapons.
He didn't cast any ninjutsu techniques until Temari used her wind to blow him away.
He didn't break out the unique Uchiha powers until Gaara and the Tsuchikage used their unique bloodline powers.
Every fucking move was calculated for maximum "Oh, I see you want to play with These toys now, huh?" energy, and I fucking loved every second of it, lol

Ngl Naruto was one of my favorite shows of all time. I was so disappointed to see the writers back themselves into a corner when writing Madara, but at the same time it taught me so much about what it takes to write a good villain. Even when the story went ass up we were still sticking around for Madara and that says plenty about what a menace he was.

It was a "business move" since introducing Kaguya relates to Boruto as it supports the Otsutsuki story. Also, Kishimoto wanted to end the Series at a perfect 700 chapters, and having a Madara fight would involve more chapters so he couldn't. He was also being pressured to end the Series so they could start on Boruto. Unlike the "Itachi would defeat Madara" false interview, I can understand why some people would believe what you said because it really was a pathetic way to "defeat" Madara

After Orochimaru resurrected the previous Kage to fuck up Kohona I think Obito should have just changed his plans and decided you know what, no need to hunt down tailed beasts, can just bring back a ressurected Madara to sort everything out himself. Man single handedly wrecked the entire alliance, plus the protagonists, plus all the resurrected Hokage, then one-shotted all the tailed beasts in an instant.

You know what made Madara so damn memorable to me. The army feat.
I mean sure we always discuss about how strong characters like Goku or Superman, or even Silver Surfer at their best can take down entire armies and such, but since they are either good guys or we don't see the chaos, the opportunity to see something like that isn't there.
Then we have Madara appear, acted like taking down an army was a stretch and even made Naruto afraid......NARUTO OF ALL PEOPLE! And at this point, Naruto is at that point in his life where he is stubborn as Fuck.

madara claiming it wasn’t power of his creation was the fact that madara awoke his rinnegan himself, and that’s why he was able to drop the meteors
kabuto was the one who gave madara his youthful body *as well as* still having his rinnegan. normally edo tensei people are brought back they way they were as they died, but kabuto let madara have his physically prime body, as well as all his powers he gained later in life (basically just the rinnegan**)
so by combining his prime body with prime powers, technically kabuto did bring madara back to a point beyond his prime, but madara is still the one who summoned the meteors. kabuto couldn’t, hence why madara said it “wasn’t power of [kabuto’s] creation”
so i believe both are right
