    I played in a game with another player like Logan/Mycroft. About 4 sessions in all the other players got so tired of them trying to run everything and hogging the spotlight we all just stopped playing in that group after bringing it up to the DM and nothing changing. If you like playing with people like that then more power to ya but if you don't and the DM doesn't do anything when it's brought up then save yourself the headache and find a different group and DM and let the spotlight hog and the DM have their little 1 on 1 game.

    • @Raelic1337

      Yea, honestly he really is the least enjoyable part of the campaign for me so far. Trying to take the full 3rd floor for himself, arguing about whether he needs to make a check to climb the mountain because he misunderstood how his racial feat works, forcing everyone to spend all their gold because he wants to dress up for the opera (and arguing/bullying the DM to give him a discount even after he was told no, and given the discount just to shut him up).. just trying to control everything to be how he wants it... if the party wants to do something one way, go with the party, dont argue and try and force the entire party to bend to what you want.

      I was fed up with Mycroft's attitude in the first session with his "I'm reading a book line" in the Yawning Portal.
      If he was in the group that my Warlock is in and ordering us around, I would have given him one warning and if it continued I would kill him with a Eldritch Blast with a Hellish Rebuke ready just in case. And that's at level 1.

    • @1MoTimeRound
      @1MoTimeRound 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My thought in this session.. If I were in the party, I would have private messaged the DM to speak with the mayor to turn them in for stealing the 200 gold pieces to get them put into forced labor for 30 days and having to relinquish any claims to the Troll Skull manor. If he didn't learn humility from that, then have them go their merry way and reroll characters. Having said that, it appears that Logan's character's are unbearable. I quit watch the Ghost of Saltmarsh because of Yaga. May have to quit watching this one if he continues.

  • @sheath3212
    @sheath3212 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I’m just watching this now, 3ish years late, trying to pick up DM tips, and I gotta say some of the comments here regarding Logan/Mycroft are downright disappointing to read. It’s like people forget that Jacob can, at literally any time, put a hard stop to any NPC interaction. It’s probably just me resonating with Logan’s method of playing the game, but I really need to vent:
    It’s pretty obvious that most people have an issue with how the tailor shop scene was handled - Mycroft wanted an extremely steep discount that was far and beyond unreasonable. True to form, Jacob was playing the part of an exasperated store owner who was willing (considering dice-rolls) to play ball for business. Yes, in most cases the store owner could and would quickly and unabashedly laugh Mycroft out of the shop without a second thought (mostly due to his very vague and loose ties to any prominent groups in Waterdeep, if I had to concoct a reason), but I think it was more than fair to reward a dedication to character, as well as a pretty intensive back-and-forth with an NPC, with the final result. Not only that, but Logan’s “bullying” of Jacob (according to others) gave everyone else time to think of and act out unique plans for their own formal attire, which made the scene that much more entertaining. AND! And, if any of them had failed, you just KNOW Mycroft would have had to pick up the pieces at the cost of his own ends. The scene practically played itself.
    It really is as though people viewing this from an external perspective forget that “no” is a word that exists for a reason. If Jacob didn’t want to give Logan that discount, he could have stopped after the first persuasion check. It’s not like some random tailor turning Mycroft down is going to somehow sway the entire flow of the game, and clearly there were alternative solutions (as seen by every other character interaction in that scene).
    NOT TO MENTION (yeah, I have a lot to say on this) that Logan clearly knows the module well enough to DM it himself. When you’re that inundated with knowledge on a story, and then are put in a position where you have to go through said story at the pace of your friends who are not so aware, you tend to find ways to spice up the experience for yourself (i.e. by causing a bit of a verbal fracas at the tailor shop). That’s my perspective, anyways. Idk, I just really want to defend Logan for playing his character well. The man is the catalyst for a significant part of the roleplaying in this game (again, imo), and doesn’t deserve all the hate for being willing to take the role of the heel.
    On a related note, how are all of Logan’s critics able to go through the mental gymnastics of ignoring the separation of player and character for him, but then look at Irah and Colton and say “yeah that checks out.” Like, Irah is, in my less than humble opinion, an idiot at best, a joke character at worst, and I hate him. Like, if I played a typical character of mine in a campaign with Irah, there would be a solid 95% chance of player combat in the first session. Even then, you won’t hear me calling Colton a dumbass - the dude clearly has a solid grasp of how he wants Irah to come across, and plays it well even if it’s to his detriment (though it hasn’t been, the lucky bastard, lol)
    Point being, Irah comes off as a lucky greenhorn fool, while Mycroft is the capable and stubborn prick. Neither are likable by most standards, and their players, outside of concocting the character’s personalities, have nothing to do with that reception. So step off muh boi Runesmith, and give Jacob some credit as a DM! He clearly knows when it’s appropriate to put his foot down, otherwise he would have buckled to the whole Mountainborn thing (which is another bs thing everyone seems to cry about in these comments - like, yeah, a racial trait is a bit vague with its full interpretation, what else is new).
    I feel stupid writing all of this out in the second episode of a 10-part dead series, likely where nobody of relevance will see it. That said, I peruse the comments of these sorts of things often, and if what I’ve seen is going to be the general consensus over the course of all of Waterdeep AND Strahd (Strad? Straud? Idk), I’ll feel all the better knowing all my feelings on Logan’s playstyle and Jacob’s DMing ability have been vented early-on.
    Final notes - I love this channel, and XPtoLV3, and everyone here in general. I don’t get to play DnD very often (read: once per year at max), so I live vicariously through these sessions. From what I can tell, Logan and I have pretty similar views and playstyles, so if anything, I’m twice as invested as I usually would be. Even though I got started waaaaaay late, I’m definitely as attached as I was when I watched the Strixhaven episodes (Honeybee4Lyfe). All the best, seriously.

Has unicorn hide leather armor to give him some health regen, a belt that gives him 25 STR given to him by a ex-party member. Wears a monocle made with a gem of true seeing, and a luck stone that gives him +2 on all saves, a cape that has a chance to hide him with different percent chances based on the environment, a coin bag that produces "fake" gold coins that unless a detect magic is used on them, they pass as real gold coins. After 24hrs, they vanish and the bag refills to 10gp. He nicked a pouch of holding that can hold a max of 1,500lbs that he uses to "farm" the magical coins. Puts the "fake" coins into the pouch of holding which pauses the 24hr time limit on the coins, but the bag still auto refills at the end of 24hrs. (My DM approved of it doing this) So, whenever he sees something he wants to buy, he buys it lol.

Like, squirrels still feel very dnd but that's because they also exist in europe.

    I literally don't know how to DM this chapter. What should I do if my players don't want to reopen the tavern, nor accept any of the factions invites? Should I have sidequests prepared in case nothing happens? We are a really new group of players and DM and pure roleplay still scare us.

    • @julyol119
      @julyol119 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If this really happens and they take no adventure hooks whatsoever, you can always ask them to not make things unnecessarily hard on you. Like, seriously. If your players don't want to do any of the stuff you prepared, why are they even there?
      But I can hardly imagine that will happen. Reopening the tavern was a surprise hit for my group. They wanted to interview all the potential staff members, which was quite a challange to come up with on the spot and keep notes off, so I learned to keep a list of rames with a few characteristics attached.
