    As a mentor told me years ago: light makes photography possible, but shadows make it interesting

      Continuous light is really underrated in photography. It's great for mastering light before you move up to big strobes or softboxes.

    Awesome summary of the different lighting positions 👍🏼 I use “BLRS” as a memory aid for this: starting with Butterfly lighting with the light in front of- and above the face, then Loop, followed by Rembrandt, and finally Side lighting. Thanks for sharing your insights.

    Thank you so much for this video. Is was just the right amount of informative 👌👍 I just bought my first off camera flash and have been trying to learn more about lighting techniques and every video I've found either made things far too complicated for and they just talked wayyy too much, or it was not informative enough. So thank you. This was very helpful.

      @@RunNGunPhoto Many thanks! First link worked, but second link took me to Amazon's dreaded "cannot find that page" link, complete with darling dog. Another link to the 2nd item? Also, in this much appreciated video, your light source often appeared to move above you. The gorillapod seems to be a versatile yet quite small adjustable tripod. Thanks in advance for your patience w/ a photog newbie...yet how did that enable you to do "above the subject" lighting? Many thanks from a new subscriber!

    So when you take these photos with just that 1 light, do you use flash on your camera? Or are there specific camera settings to use?

    • @RunNGunPhoto
      @RunNGunPhoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use almost any light but your on-Camera flash. I never use the built in flash.

    • @elizabeth6540
      @elizabeth6540 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Run N Gun thanks! Would an external flash on top of the camera work? Or should it be positioned elsewhere? Let’s say for the Rembrandt lighting example using that stick light

    • @elizabeth6540
      @elizabeth6540 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nvm. That wouldn’t make sense. Then my whole face would be illuminated. I’m new at this. Maybe no flash needed

    • @RunNGunPhoto
      @RunNGunPhoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No flash is needed at all! You can literally create all of these with a flashlight!

      Which phone are you using? You can absolutely still take Dramatic photos on your phone.
      Phones are limited on their quality and don't have all the capabilities of a dedicated cameras.
      They may require some basic editing in Lightroom Mobile.
