    They're pretty good but the self heating fact helps when there is no electricity or you're evacuating.
    We always have water with or on us but not always electricity to heat up food for emergencies.

      @@johnkubiak1154 I just checked, they cost about 12 USD for 2 with free shipping(in China of course), so 5-6 USD each. It may cost 1 USD when they first started promoting it. It may look like a lot, but I can easily eat two of those in one sitting and still not be full. They’re really expansive compare to other options. I imagine each one will probably sell for like 10 dollars or more in the US.

    Ok, so I learned this today
    The molecule that causes the burning feeling is capsaicin. This molecule is not soluble in water, hence why water doesn't help. However, capsaicin is soluble in ethanol, meaning that you should try alcoholic beverages to ease the burn!

    • @TechnoTekk

      @@TechnoTekk capsaicin is a type of oil? Isn't it a neuropeptide?
      If you're eating spicy food, it is already spread all over your mouth, so I don't see how alcohol would be troubling in that sense. However, capsaicin is only moderately soluble in ethanol, so it might not work very well. Bread might be a wiser choice, I'm not entirely sure

    Can anyone tell me whatever chemical reactions that makes that pack make the water so hot and boil at the very short time.
    What kind of chemical is that btw? And is it really safe? Is what inside that pack toxic?

    • @divx1001
      @divx1001 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      It's quicklime and yes, it's quite toxic. Causes irritation when inhaled... Just don't puncture the bag and keep unopened packages in a dry place and you will be fine 😁

    • @ilikecommenting6849
      @ilikecommenting6849 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      The heat isn't solely generated by the package. Most of the heat is actually generated because the steam is trapped inside and only has one tiny little whole to escape. The added pressure causes more heat and creates the classic "screaming/whistle sound". Nothing is actually burning in there and inhaling it is not unsafe. It's just hot air. Which is normally allowed to escape and cool off. This is prevented in this situation thus adding more and more hot air in the chamber, which in turn heats up the chamber. Aslong as you don't open the package which contains the original heat source, you'll be fine

      I think it’s the same stuff that’s in MREs. Idk, I could be wrong. Those work by a chemical reaction with iron and magnesium powder, salt and water. The oxidation of the metals releases heat.

    I’ve tried two different flavour of them. Both of the bowls I couldn’t eat more than half because it was just so oily and the oil is thick and sticks to the ingredients and makes it unpleasant to eat. Also the seaweed in it tastes funny in an unpleasant sort of way. Even now I can still taste the seaweed in my mouth when I think about it 😖
