- The harpejji is a new musical instrument by Marcodi Musical Products (www.marcodi.com). Jim Daneker (recording artist and keyboardist for Michael W. Smith) of the Whine Cellar studio has been experimenting with the harpejji as an instrument for film scoring. In this example, he demonstrates the harpejji as both a solo instrument (beginning of piece, eith Ebow) and a bass instrument (ending of piece). Video production and copyright permission courtesy of Jim Daneker. For more information on the harpejji, visit www.marcodi.com.

This is probably the best track I've seen or heard showing just how diverse this instrument can be. Expensive, but the craftsmanship on them looks superb.
I've written over a hundred songs using a guitar with the D and high E removed and tuned F# C# C# F# where the two F#'s are one octave apart and the two C#'s are unison in pitch, but one is wire-wound and the other is not. You have a perfect 5th strumming downward and a perfect 5th strumming upward.
As a trained guitar player of many years already when I broke two strings on my guitar I stumbled into this tuning and quickly realized how easy it was to compose complexly, but w/ simple fingers
If Peter Gabriel ever gets one of these, that's it!; the rest of his band's out of work.
+Alexplorer Just waiting for the moment for robert fripp to get one lol
At about 0:53 you need Robert Plant's voice going "In the eeeeeeevening!!!"
love that song!!
@sidharthcaine Feel free to email me at jason.melani@marcodi.com. We have shipped harpejji's all over the world!
@LaurieBuchananMusic Its much easier than tapping on the neck of a guitar or bass. Feel free to visit our web site and send us an email if you have any more questions.
@Crawletas Hi Crawletas, Jordan Rudess is actually an endorser of ours. See our TH-cam channel to see Jordan Rudess playing the harpejji.
Harpeji + Ebow = full of win.
well, this is definately something on my list of instruments to someday own, and it is pretty much beating out everything else that was on that list.....
This is an awesome instrument.....I love instruments that cross the boundaries and give you depth and expressive and unique sounds....had I the money, I would absolutely get one.
@XboxLiveGlicher Actually the harpejji's strings do not need to be changed nearly as much as a guitar. This is due to:
1. The harpejji's strings are at a low tension and do not place as much stress on the strings.
2. Since there is less wear and tear on a tapping instrument its strings last much longer than the strings on a strummed instrument.
i could imagine how cool it would sound with a boss bass synth pedal
The Ebow thing sounded really cool.
An idea: how about integrating small sustainers (or "Ebows") for each string into the instrument. They could be triggered with a "sustain pedal". To compensate for the lack of movement, it could come with (hand controlled) variable filters to control which harmonics get amplified.
Is he creating all the sounds we are hearing on just this one Harpejii? Wow! I can't wait to hear more and more and more...
No. There are drums a bagpipe and a synth. It's just the melody and the bass.
You could make some sweet blade runner music with this
Звучит как саундтрек к фильму "Бегущий по лезвию бритвы"
Beginning reminds me of Blade Runner.
Sounds like Robert Fripp
It would be interesting to have higher frets so that you could pressure bend, similar to a Sitar.
You could also feed the output to a frequency crossover to feed a guitar amp for the higher frequencies, and a Bass amp for the lower bass frequencies.
I can see a lot of new ideas being used with the new Harpejji.
My other idea is that the strings and frets create a matrix that could be used to drive a synth module. simple enough to design a decoder to do that.
@Barakx8 Thanks for your post. The sounds that you hear that are not the harpejji are the drums and the whistle. All else is harpejji. Feel free to check out our Facebook wall and youtube channel for additional content.
this is amazing. Love the ambient feel of the "solo" portion. does he intend to "shred" like he does in this video in his movie scores?
I wonder, was this the instrument used in the (new) Battlestar Galactica soundtrack? With this particular filter set it sounds very similar.
I doubt that, since BSG began in 2003, and the harpejji seems not to be existent then. If you want to know for sure, you have to ask Bear McCreary, which instruments he used for his score (or crawl through his website).
However, this demo sounds to me greek scaled, like pythagorean or so, which reminds me of some tracks on "Odes" by Vangelis.
@Shikihyrogashi you can check us out on our web site. Google Marcodi
What is that vibration device he is holding in his left hand ?? I think I saw Coldplay using one on one of their shows.
@KristopherYoung They're the only manufacturers. It would be cool if they sold plans on how to build one though.
why does this sound like something that should be on stargate universe :-) or is it just me bein a div again?
this would be perfect for John McLaughlin.
What gives the bass that awesome tone after 1:00?
Tuning and electronics. All of the Harpejjis I've seen have amazing bass for something that doesn't use what most of us think of as bass gauge string.
@dinosawrgoezrawr048
See our video "Restringing the Harpejji" and see how easy it really is.
Excuse me sir could you please tell me the price of this "HARPEJJI" instrument????& how to use this???from where we will get the tutorials for this instrument????please ????This is a humble request from a small piano player...............
have fun changing the strings.
this is cool. but I'm not gonna pay 3000 for one
How much these things cost?
действительно, ЗДОРОВО!!
Are you joking? It's almost entirely hand made! All the work that goes into making one...that's why it costs that much.
Those first few notes remind me of talk talk
most every beginning guitarist gets a $99 cheapie to start. Prob with the Harpejii is everyone is a beginner with it, so its cost is a risk to most people, even accomplished musos on guitar that want to try harpejii, etc. But I know what you mean...I'm up to 2000+ instruments etc. I have tried warr guitar, starr labs Ztar, etc
ebow dot com
Lol Dino ever played the piano ?
Its awesome. Sounds like AR rahman's composition.... :-)
Indian ending....
This is a beautiful instrument.
I've never seen one before but I'm really interested in how easy it is to play?
Anyone know?
I play guitar and bass, and I find tapping easy on guitar/bass so I guess my fingers would be used to playing that way, so is it much different?
nice music instrument
Is there a less expensive model that you would consider selling to the public? I know a few of my friends would love to have one, but we are mostly college students who dont have $2500 to spend freely :/
Where can I get one?
thats kool as hell
If you will, here's a story: Dusk, late August, Palmer Alaska. One day before the State Fair. A broken man waits for redemption. He's at the roadside curb and looks to the sky. We get only a hint of his features. What we see is basically a silhouette. His heel on the fire hydrant, the other is planted into Terra Firma.
A loving wife works herself to the bone. She arrives home from a long day at the news station. The garage door opens, makes a bit of noise as it rides the rails to the ceiling. Their three children are at the curb, near the hydrant. They too look to the sky. We see only their silhouettes and faint features. The children have no clue what's coming, but they wait with their father. The oldest is 17, her posture is like her father's, still. The two youngest are preteen and playful. The children watch over their Dad's peculiar behavior.
The silhouette of mom walking from the garage is purposeful as an executive on her way to a corporate meeting. Like all moms, she's tired and has no patience for shenanigans. She has no clue that she and her children will be on their way into the wilds...into the last frontier. (Jim Daneker, you game?)
queda para un video juego epico o quedaria para la parte de xen en el fina black mesa souce si es que algun dia lo llegan a sacar
COOOOL!!
Nice
Alexplorer - If Peter Gabriel gets one of these it's going to be a brave new world... the same as if Mike Oldfield does. Oh the wild possibilities.
Unfortunately, I am currently in a position where I can't afford an harpejji. Is this beautiful instrument available for rental?
this sounds like it could have come straight out of a Dream Theater song :) like Home
This is one bad instrument do you have it hooked up to an effects pedal?
can't see the point of having 20+ strings and playing just 3 of them
This is no shit to the moog guitar, you don't need a damn e-harp
TH-cam "pat metheny pikasso guitar" and this will seem worlds easier...
lol, i want to see jordan rudess playing this
Sounds like a cross between a violin and a bagpipe. :)
This thing is awesome, and I would love to own one, but the price is frightening.
OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME! Is it electronic with midi or usb??
i want to compose a concert for orchestra and.. this :D
Wie viele kostet diese?
Some stuff overdub however I love it it's the overall effect & energy that counts
This sounds like I'm bout to fight a hunter in Halo 3
Esta muy buena esta con que lo agregó???
This is so great man, it seems that you can do anything with this, great instrument :)
W A N T

I bet Pater Gabriel already knows this instrument
How much it cost ?
That was so cool!! well done
It's not that new; it just hasn't really caught on yet.
OMHMFG!!
This is so amazing.
Its sounds like the X3-Soundtrack.
So cool

Far out! How could you NOT love it?
Cooler than anything....
Wow!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Just Awesome.. HOW MUCH it cost ???
Too much.
(If you have to ask, then it's too much) ;)
But seriously, I think even 12-string versions are around the 3k mark, or so I've heard.
playable ok-ish first guitars are also $99 or less. theres no harpejji model that cheap.
It never ceases to amuse me how this precise exchange of comments takes place at least five times underneath every video with harpejji in it. :V
I really enjoyed the sound of the Uilleann pipes, but I couldnt tell what the instrument in the video was doing. Was it where all the percussion was coming from?
Try listening with headphones, it's the bass.:)
Cool but clearly very limited
Search Cory Henry and Harpjii on TH-cam you will find that this instrument has potential
what is the name of the first music ???
