Oh my god, the natto. You almost made me cry. I miss that kind of food. Like you said, not really an American situation. This was such a cool video. Made me miss Japan so much it was almost hard to watch, my dude. I remember living in a suburb of Osaka in a tiny, studio apartment with the one piece, molded bathroom. I'd eat at a little teishoku place located in an old shotenkai(sp?) covered marketplace. I'd always get the set menu - I think it well under 1000 yen. And I'd sit at the counter and eat whatever they gave me, usually good, but not always, while reading War and Peace (it took me a long time to get through, don't think I would've tried if books in English weren't so hard to come by). When I was done I'd light up a Marlbro Red right at my seat just like the other tired looking salarymen would do. I hadn't smoked much before moving to Japan but it seemed like a romantic thing to do. Luckily it didn't stick. I think the owner's daughter who worked behind the counter liked me because she'd give me little presents sometimes. The owner was a really cool, old school dude. Even though I was a confused, young man, with no real direction at that point in my life, I enjoyed those meals. Watching your videos really brings me back.
Was that in the Shows era during Emperor Hirohito? Sounds like it. Those were the good old days when they had a dining car on the Shinkansen and smoking was everywhere.
Texture is such a big part of food It's interesting how different cultures like different textures. Americans like crispy it looks like Japanese like chewy.
That was very interesting. You had dishes I've never seen before. The lunch seemed very diabetic friendly too. I appreciate the descriptions of the taste and texture of the food. Thank you.
Loved this vid Eric, its back to the roots... Getting a view of the Japanese culture was why I started watching you to begin with...Thanks for doing this one!
The tomato and mozzarella salad is an Italian dish. It is known as Caprase salad and it is Tomatoes, Mozzarella, Balsamic Vinegar and salt and pepper. Next time make some at home and try it with balsamic vinegar on it.
Oh no, lol that stamina salad I think would have done me in. Texture wise it looked incredibly daunting. Thank you for sharing! It's always interesting to see the different foods Japan has to offer that are traditional (and receiving an honest opinion on them lol)
Great video and great dishes in your epic meal. Keep up the good work showing us subscribers the wonderful and crazy 😜 food dishes you find in Japan 🇯🇵. God bless you and your family.
Hopefully you see my comment. I have been watching you for a while now. Usually late night when I am up in pain from a chronic illness I have. My son & husband watch as well when I am watching. I am broadening their horizons since even without the pandemic travel is hard for me. Love all that I have learned about Japan from you on You Tube. Cheers.
Some amazing dishes. You're Brave. 😁 We eat the salad with mozzarella & tomato but we have basil with each set with seasonings, vinegar. Thanks for another great video.
We enjoy your running commentary. FYI: We all place bets as to what your rating will be after each meal. It makes watching you even more fun. Thank you for sharing.
I always love Eric's videos. I had to look twice on the Conger Eel as I thought he was just messing with us and actually eating cauliflower. The eel did kind of look like grated cauliflower at first.
I really enjoy watching your videos.. it's interesting learning about new food. You make such expressive faces when you try new foods. Have a great day.
I love your shirt, very nice! Interesting foods. I like the way you use the plate to catch crumbs and drips while you eat some of the foods. Very nice video. Keep them coming please!
What a great sampling of food to have! The tomato mozzarella "salad", if reduced basalmic dressing was added, it would be a caprese salad (an Italian salad).
Glad you’re safe you’re an amazing Channel I’ve watched for years(: thanks you for all the videos makes me want to try new things and travel I can’t wait to again hope to meet you someday! Love from Florida

Ya...not missing smoking everywhere as I have asthma. Disgusting
The yakitori asparagus wrapped in bacon looks so good! Favorite combo!
I have tried it before and indeed, it is very tasty. Very labour intensive to make those though - can you imagine?
Texture is such a big part of food It's interesting how different cultures like different textures. Americans like crispy it looks like Japanese like chewy.
Sat on the couch and it pops into my head "eric should be releasing a video soon". Just like that, boom!

One of your better vids! A true picture of Japanese food you don’t normally see. Thanks.
Wow, thanks Mick!

Such a variety...that mozzarella & tomato is an Italian caprese salad which goes well with fish.

Yakitori looked good, especially the asparagus.
Oh yeah! The bacon / asparagus is delish!
As always a wonderful food journey 😁😎
Great episode, I was super excited when I saw it was 25 mins long.
I love fish AND cauliflower!
Always great to see you Eric
I like the longer video! Also the tomatoes and mozzarella are like caprese salad, just missing balsamic vinegar and basil. Classic italian dish
Japan is definitely in my bucket list!

Looked great as always. The yakitori.....OMG gimme some!

I know you enjoyed the food.

You ordered and ate quite a lot of delicious looking stuff there, Eric! How big is their menu?
Best thing that sets eric apart from other youtubers is his honest opinion on the foods he eats

Still makes me drool. Love chikuwa. Let's face it love Japanese food raised on it.
Oh yeah! 👅🍣👍🏄
Definitely some interesting choices!
Glad you think so Lea!
We need another Japanese street food video!!
Right! It's been a while since I've done street food.
I guess I'm having yakitori tomorrow. 🤤 Thanks again, always a joy watching your videos! Cheers.
Yakitori for the win!
Prawns 🦐 with the shell on, interesting !!!
I think this is the best one you've had for a while made me hungry!
Any American eating out with a "table charge" would be "Sir/Mam I didn't pay for this". Love the content.
Late watching this video but I'm sitting here watching and having some Japanese food for dinner
I love your shirt, very nice!

we humans are strange watching video after video of a grown man eating food :D, i guess that we want to try the food and in the moment we almost does
Not sure if it’s been discussed but I wonder if, as an avid ES6 fan, we should be called Eric Heads. Any other nominations?
Izakaya at its best, all looked delicious.
The squid eaten with Kewpie mayonnaise is the best. If you add a little Shichimi there, it will be even more delicious.
Yummy, grilled squid. Never had it with mayo.
Love the hair cut! Just kicking back stuffing my face with pizza while I watch you stuff yours with Japanese :)
Hello Melissa. I haven't had pizza in ages. It's time.
That Pork and Eggplant takes the cake on this video. Damn that looks so good.
Agreed!
Love about 99% of the food you eat and that mackerel looked fantastic. Not sure I would enjoy that gooey texture though.
Can’t wait to visit Japan and do a food tour!!
Oh yeah!
I also put SHOYU with WASABI on the HAMO.
mozzarella cheese and tomato salad is actually a classic italian dish lol
Since I’ve been watching your videos I must say this lunch is the most unappetizing meal ever!
Welcome to Japan Donna! lol
Ericsurf6 I’ve been to Japan twice....it’s even worse than turtle soup. LOL
I would love to live in Japan just to eat all the fantastic seafood all the time!
That looks so delicious. Nommers
Do you eat Salt Eric?. I don't ever remember u adding it or even ot being on the table
Nice to see some first time foods cool
So that would be a first and last on the Conger - but the facial expressions are priceless
Great stuff👍👍
When you described the fish that tasted like cauliflower and watching your facial expression made me laugh out loud 😘
Excellent food I wish they had this type of food out in the states especially out in Missouri area
Glad you’re safe you’re an amazing Channel I’ve watched for years(: thanks you for all the videos makes me want to try new things and travel I can’t wait to again hope to meet you someday! Love from Florida
I am convinced you secretly love the fermented beans!
I love the char on those various skewers of goodness. Yum.
Although I haven't tried any of these(except mozza salad, the beer, and shrimp), I rate this a NomNomNom :)
Great video Eric look forward to seeing more

Ha ha, ya think? 🤔👅👍🏄
At least you’re willing to try things more than once to see if you can get it tasteful. Kudos to you! Stay safe.
Yep, gotta keep trying stuff over and over to get a taste for it.
thanks for sharing, cheers
I would love to try the stamina salad. The winner though was the pork & eggplant dish. It is the best combination, but add shrimp to make it better!
Cheers Steve! 👅🇯🇵🏄
What if you're the only one drinking one of those big bottles of beer? Is it alright to drink directly from it then?
In Japan, beer is always poured into glasses.
That meal was fit for a king Eric... Get some!!
Always interesting foods.
Cheers Sing!
