  • After experiencing just how good the Teton Sports Mountain Ultra Tent was, I decided to check out a car camping tent from the company.
This is the Teton Sports Quick Hiker Vista 2 - a sort of pop-up tent that's certainly different than most tent designs.

Teton Sports Vista 2 Quick Tent - Car Camping Tent
What it is : Over the last couple of months i have been impressed with the quality of the products coming out of the company which is known as Teton Sports.
The Mountain Ultra Tent is a budget friendly tent, that is fully waterproof and features some of the best quality that I have seen with a tent.
Best I have been so impressed so far, I decided to take a look at other Teton Sports products and one of those products is the focus of this video.
What I have here is the Teton Sports Vista 2 Quick Tent; it is a 2 person, 2 door tent and features an extremely fast setup and breakdown process.
    Agenda Free Link : tetonsports.co...
    Setup Measurements : 82" x 60" x 41"
    Weight : 6.3 lbs
    Packed Measurements : 33” x 7” x 7”
    Materials :
    The Fly : 75D 190T Taffeta
That is all that is listed but I suspect the floor is made of a polyester material of some sort.
    Price : Retail $120
Colors : There is an impressive variety of colors in which this tent is available :
    grey and silver
    Brown
    Green
    Yellow
Accessories : Teton has a number of available accessories for the quick hiker series of tents including cots and an elite rain fly which goes to the ground when the tent is being used on a cot.
    Available Versions :
    Quick Tent 1 Person
    Quick Tent 2 Person
And there are sets which feature a quick tent and a cot.
    ……..
    Features :
    - Pops up in an instant and locks into place
    - Fits perfectly on two Universal Camp Cots
    - Standard rainfly included
    - Elite rainfly available for purchase - sold separately
    - Lifetime Warranty
The new Vista Quick Tent, by TETON Sports, sets up in an instant. Simply roll it out, lock your poles and pull the drawstring. The locking hub keeps your tent up until you are ready to take it down. These tents are made to use on the ground or fit on top of either the TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Cot (Vista 1) or two TETON Sports Universal Camp Cots (Vista 2) for a camping experience that is out of this world.
Two-way zippers make getting in and venting your tent a breeze. And a gear loft holds a light and small essentials. A standard tent-length rainfly comes with each tent. Look for the Elite Rainfly, sold separately, that covers the tent and cot(s) all the way to the ground. Stay dry, get outdoors and enjoy life.
    ……..
    Thoughts and Impressions :
    Setup?
    Quality?
Thoughts on how the quick setup works - Seen this sort of before - most of the time they are from Chinese companies and the overall quality of those tents is complete garbage. I haven’t used one myself that didn’t leak…
    Weight ?
    Size ?
I have high hopes for the Teton Sports quick tent that it will have no issues when it comes to waterproofing and can be a recommended car camping - overlanding tent.

I used this tent this weekend. It rained really hard and was super windy. I was completely dry. It’s a pretty decent tent for the price. The Only thing I didn’t like about it is that the stakes are super cheap.

Hi Luke, the wife and a are a few hundred years older than you. We camped for five decades starting with tents, to pick-up toppers, to an 18-foot travel trailer, and today our camp sites are the Quality Inns. Our home is out in the woods, and we still enjoy backyard camping with campfires, outdoor cooking, swimming in the lake, and enjoying the wildlife and peace and quiet. If I was young again one of these Teton tents would be great for us. Outdoor gear has come a long way in 50 plus years. Keep up your great videos.

The offset hub is smart because it makes it easy to reach versus being in the middle. Great review and honesty. This tent looks like a "lazy" man's tent who doesn't want to deal with a couple of mins for setup. I personally love my Ultra 3p, it held up to hard rain and pea size hail without a problem last weekend.

I’m looking at this for a motorcycle tent camping scenario. After I’ve ridden all day the last thing I wanna do is spend 45 minutes messing with trying to get a tent put up the way this folds up I think I can make it work. Something I do whenever I get a new tent and I buy a lot of tents because I haven’t found anything that I really really like. But when I practice setting them up at home before I take them camping I always get some kind of waterproofing spray make sure that you spray the seams inside and out do the whole rain fly flip it over and do the floor even On the cheapest $20 tent six $ Cana Camp dry Will make all the difference in the world!

I believe this tent and the smaller one person version, are designed to fit on their cots, which may account for its particular design. They also have a larger rain fly that when used on the cot will reach all the way to the ground so you have a tremendous amount of storage under your bed. If I understand it correctly the one person tent is a full 40 in wide and some people get the matching cot, get off the wet ground and have their dogs join them inside 😊😊😊

Michael from The Outdoor Emporium uses these quite a bit with Simon and Esme (his dogs). He's camped extensively in these and has fantastic insight, tips and ideas on how to use these to their best advantages. I love the idea of the 2 person setup under a second tent shelter or tarp to provide cover for camping outside the tent. Not to mention in the winter, this tent/cot within a tent or canopy provides greater sleep isolation, better protection against the elements and a very cozy setup! As alway Luke, God bless you my friend, prayers for your family and thank you for the reviews.

I am going to keep bugging you about this tent. It is the Featherstone Granite 2 person tent. I bought 2 of them, setup both tents in high winds in Texas and they were amazing. Please show this tent on your site. In rain and high winds this tent rocks. Its 5 pounds, can be setup in 3 configurations, comes with a footprint and is seam sealed. I am going camping this weekend with both tents in North Texas and I have no worries about the tent standing up. If you close up the vestibule zips, the wind will not come in, the tent can handle the winds. This is a gem of a tent for the price and quality.

When my kids were younger we had a couple of these (not this brand) but we had similar issues w/both in that Condensation was horrid, as there was little airflow (as you noted w/this one as well) and we also got leakage around the 'umbrella' part. Easy to set up, sometimes not so easy to take down. Will be interested to see what else comes out w/this one. (I no longer have to worry about this, my kids are both hammock campers now !).

I am always skeptical about pop-up tents so it will be interesting to see how it performs. It is pretty heavy but is much lighter than the Hilleberg with its inner mesh. I agree that there should be some way to pull the fly away from the tent body, but it is pretty inexpensive so, as you mentioned, it is a relatively easy/inexpensive fix.

Thanks for showing how to set the tent up...put your hand on the center disc then grab the cord and pull up on it while pushing the disc down with the other hand, then flip the lock. At minute 7:25 you inserted a picture of tarp clips, so I assume you've come up with a hack to pull the fly away from the tent body. Not sure how strong the grip is to hold the fly in high wind conditions. None-the-less, I like the tent and plan to purchase it to use on top of cots for car camping. I really like the idea of being high off the ground so I don't have to crawl in and out of my backpacking tent. I plan to keep the fly open on both doors during the night but with the doors zipped closed so the air can flow through the mesh. I might also set it up under a tarp or canopy so that if it rains I can still keep the fly open on the doors. I also like that when using with cots you don't have to be bothered with brushing the dirt off the bottom of the tent when you're ready to break camp. All in all I like the tent.

I’ve been asking you to review this tent for a while now. I’m pretty excited to see how it goes. I had the original version of this tent in a one person and it was extremely short. I’m 5’11 and laying on the ground without being on a sleeping pad my head and feet were touching both ends of the tent. On paper it seems long enough but the head and foot angle of the tent are so sharp there’s about 10 inches of unusable space. I think it’s really designed to be used with a cot because you can sink Into it and that might solve the issue which is unfortunate because not everyone wants to bring a cot. I think they made the second version of this tent longer but I’m still not convinced it’s long enough for the average height person sleeping on the ground using a 3” inflatable sleeping pad. If they solved that issue it would be a great tent for overlanding via atv!

I have the Vista 1 tent, which is the same design but smaller. I camped in light rain and stayed perfectly dry. My buddy in the cheap Bass Pro Shops hiker/biker tent did not do so well.
That said, this tent is too heavy and long for backpackers and kind of small for car camping. So it's not clear who the target buyer is. Because they sell a cot to go with this, it seems the car camper who doesn't need a larger tent is the likely target.
If you drive a subcompact car or a motorcycle, this might be a good choice. If you want to add the enormous Teton xxl cot that goes with it, you will need more than a motorcycle to haul it.
If you occasionally backpack on a weekend trip and are a strong person on a budget, or you are not hiking far, you can backpack with the Vista 1 but I wouldn't try the Vista 2. Even with the Vista 1 at 4.6 lbs you're hauling an extra pound over better tents and it is too long to fit in your backpack so you will strap it on. That's what I did for a 27 mile AT hike over 2 days. And by the end of it I wished I had gotten something lighter and more compact.
I am considering doing some car camping and looking at the Teton XXL cot to go with it. That unit is $159.99 which seems steep for a cot, but most cheaper cots are too small to accommodate the Vista 1 tent on it. Considering one called the SlumberJack for $109.99 instead

I have the Vista 1 and the Vista 2. The unlock lever is kind of a "hair trigger" if you bump it in the middle of the night the whole thing comes down on you. Once you pop your tent, tie off the cord or put a squeeze lock on it! Other than that, they are great!

Thank you for all of your reviews, I can't tell you how much time and money you've saved me. I recently purchased a new Vista 2 and it was broken upon arrival. When I took it out of the box, the plastic dome at the top busted into three separate pieces. I was lucky enough to get a full refund as it was the last one they had in stock. It kind of threw me off that is broken since the box it was shipped in was absolutely perfect. After seeing it's weak points, decided to go ahead and spend the extra $10 to get the Mountain Ultra 2. Personally, I like the thought of the pop up tent, but I think I would much more prefer the more traditional setup like the Mountain line offers. It has the same option of the cot system if you desire to get it (and I probably will lol). The over all package does weigh a bit more, but it's 10 inches shorter in length.

I used to own a Black Sheep 30 second pop-up tent I bought for about $70 at Kmart when I was 12 (1988). I used that thing til about 2005 when the poles finally broke from old age. It was similar...7x7 square dome with poles already installed, hinged in the middle, and just snap the four tops into the center hub and boom, it was up. This tent seems very similar to that one. Not the lightest tent, but I miss it. So easy to put up and take down. Not the best ventilation unless the windows were open.

Interesting that many tent manufactures can miss certain details such as the missing fly loops to provide better ventilation. The additional fly loops would have been very inexpensive to add which would have made this good tent into a better tent. Not sure what happens in the design review of these products to miss these details.

The brown color is fantastic. I have the Vista 1 and the quality is good for the price.
At less than 5 lbs you can backpack with the Vista 1, but it's not ideal. Vista 2 is way too large and heavy.
Both Vista tents can be paired with the Teton cots as well. The Vista 2 can sit atop two of their universal camp cots (I think) and then they make a larger rain fly that goes to the ground. The Vista 1 pairs with their XXL cot.

Here in FL with the rain it has worked great,no leaks, no condensation, and for the price $80 five yrs ago,I feel like got a steal. But if in the market for a new tent, I'm intrigued and will see part 2 of your review, but with ease of set up and size, 2 doors, for the price seems like a good tent. Also for the price, I would sew on some tabs on the fly to pull away for ventilation. I do short hikes, cpl of miles, and if 2 people for an overnight, 6,3# not the worst for me to carry.

As a car camping tent the $120 price is fantastic. The main selling point that it's easy to set up works for older guys like me with knee issues. It would be easy enough to install guy lines at the points you mentioned with tarp clips so the only question is will it stand up to stormy wet weather? I already own a Teton tent so I'm guessing it will. I look forward to you testing it out. Keep up the outstanding work you do.

Then they sell a full length rain fly that goes with it. I have yet to purchase that, but for camping in the rain with the city + tent combo, it's required

It seems like a good product for car camping. I’m surprised about the issue you’ve mentioned but also not a deal breaker as easily fixable. Hopefully.
Saying that, I’ve seen designs that require the user to lift the tent from inside. They were harder to set up more sturdy. Maybe too sturdy for my needs :)
Question: how much time would be saved in comparison to ordinary “quick “ to set up tent?

Looks amazing, but a little disappointing fly issue. I hope it turns out to be rain proof. The set up/take down is so simple!

Beware using those clamps you showed at the end, I used them ONCE, they ripped the tent when the wind picked up, weight isnt so bad, look s a good tent for novices on a summer trip where there wont be much rain, possibly a kayak trip, in the UK, no many of those and for Wild Camping I always want something that has the option of outer first, to put up in the rain.

Plop a marble behind the fly on that side, tie around it and you'll be able to pull it out from the body a bit.

Hey Luke - I've been using the TETON Vista 1 & 2 for over 4 years and they are great tents for the price. Here's a video I made a few weeks ago in the Vista 2 th-cam.com/video/_MI3NRle7yA/w-d-xo.html - I've camped in the Canadian winter down to -30c in snow with these tents. They are best with the cot accessory (great for limited mobility folk) and the Elite fly - Best wishes Michael

Definitely weird that Teton Sports did not sew a loop on each side of the fly. It would only take a few seconds to do it. A person could definitely sew one on, but they should have sewn loops on the fly. Otherwise, it does look like an easy set-up for car camping. Looking forward to the rain test night.

That’s a simple fix just put a third tarp clip on the fly where it’s missing it’ll work perfectly and it will not alter The original design for warranty purposes

G'day Luke, I like it, but don't love it. The obvious fly issue aside; for stationary car camping you can afford to go bigger and heavier, this one only makes sense for touring IMO, where constant set up and take down is required. Cheers Duke.

I have the 1 person tent. To fix the rainfly against the body I added 3 clips to the bottom to pull away and add more air flow. The vista's needs vents bad is my only real complaint and weight

I have the full setup with the cot and the elite rainfly, I've never had any leaks but condensation has been a problem when fully closed. Also it's very hard to close the elite rainfly when sitting in the tent on the cot. Any more questions about it I'll gladly answer. The full setup cost about 370$.

Thanks for looking into Teton stuff; I've had a few pieces including the Vista 1 and am happy to see your thoughts on the brand. I would love to see you review the Vista 1 with the cot and camp pad since they sell it as a set and it all kind of "goes together." I've never used my Vista 1 in the rain but I'm particularly worried about how the standard rainfly seems like it would lead to water pooling between the cot and tent, necessitating the elite rainfly. I 'd love to see you give this set of products a look!

Sir, this seems to have a lot going for it. May fail upon further testing as is but would it work with minimal effort? Tarp clips for staking out the fly is what I mean. Info that would be very useful to me and possibly many others. With that being said, the Mountain Ultra is roughly the same price and is proven so why bother? I don't think it's unreasonable to compare the same size tent from the same company and give your recommendation one way or another. Just my thoughts.

Excellent review, I'm sold! But I see this tent is made with taffeta, rather than nylon/polyester, and I'm not finding any seam-sealer for that particular material. None of the descriptions say their sealant works on taffeta. Nor do I get any helpful results when I google "tent seam sealer taffeta." So can you recommend a brand or two that does? Thanks!
