Those extra long ties are for when the tent is used with a cot, the extra length enables the tent to be pegged out securely. I think this tent was initially designed as a cot tent.

One thing you should remember is that these tents are not only sold in America. Last Sunday I arrived for an overnighter on Dartmoor, England at 4 p.m. and it was 12C which is 53F, chucking down with rain and blowing a gale. it was only going to get colder and a mesh inner would not have been any good, although one obviously needs some mesh for ventilation.

This is a lightweight version of a decathlon 2 man tent. I bought it about 4 years ago, so been around a while, it is more of a car camping tent. Great idea. Love this lightweight version.

The instructions showed a Image of the tent put on top of a cot . The dimensions are based on the average Cot. If you put it on a cot you can get better airflow . If you go back to about to 1:55 minutes part of the video you can see the images in the instructions. . A couple of those images show cot legs under the tent. I have looked into buying some thing like this a few years ago. I don't remember the brand but didn't buy partly due to the length. I am a little on the tall side and would need something at least 80 inches.

Another good first look. As a larger (over 6’) person I’ve usually gravitated toward two person tents because I like to have my gear out of the elements at night and the extra room is good for added ventilation in warmer months. The width of this tent makes it iffy for me due to the same concern you had (a drawback to going to a gym). Thank you for sharing this review.

Love the tent, and your reviews, Luke. If and when you decide to rain test this tent, don't forget to put those rubber caps at the end of the draw-pulls over the holes the strings pull through to make it waterproof. It seems like a good idea, but we'll see! Lonewolf Mountain has the right amount of rainfall to git 'er dun!! :)

This tent looks like it is making way in the future product of easy setup tents. Naturehike did a wonderful job designing this tent to set up very easily. That design in itself can make this tent sell out despite the other flaws it brings. I really hope that they improve on the tent because this could be their ticket to being a more respectable brand.

Interesting product. Looking forward to testing. As a part of field testing make sure to try it on a cot as many design features are built around that. As it stands it looks attractive as a less claustrophobic bivy shelter. Not super comfortable but quick to set up if the weather changed unexpectedly or you misjudged how much daylight was left.

I think this would be a great tent so long as it's waterproof, will be looking for that video. As far as the guyline points... perhaps the pulls coming out the hubs could be used with paracord... & perhaps the company could even integrate longer pull cords to be used as guylines. Lots of hangy string though for a tent, but just an idea. I think it's downfalls can be subjective and overcome though, but very valid critiques. It would be nice to see this tent built with your recommendations.

  • @buttonsangel3074
    @buttonsangel3074 ปีที่แล้ว

Just got the 2 person version of this Naturehike tent. The 2P does does have proper guy-out points about halfway up the fly (guy lines included). No lines attached (or provided) for the corners of the tent body - so the corners are just staked. All required stakes (though small) are included: 4 for the body, 4 for guyouts, 2 for the doors.
There is more mesh, only because the tent is larger - but it's still not enough. I'm experimenting with placing a fan, hung from the "umbrella mechanism" in between the inner and outer. It is a perfect placement to draw air from inside straight out the vent at either end. Oddly, there is a small patch of mesh, on the fly, for the vent - huh? I'm not sure I've seen this, why would it be there, when the inner is the bug protection. Maybe it's for wind driven rain? I'm thinking of cutting it out to improve airflow.
The inner tent body is attached to the outer with toggles and can be fully removed. Would be nice if Naturehike sold a replaceable full mesh inner - ok, there's a zero percent chance of that. As was said, so much fabric was just a big "miss" on Naturehike's part. This could be a great cool/cold weather tent as long as those umbrella mechanisms don't fail.

I absolutely love how easy this tent can be set up and the quality.
I almost would run and buy it except I live in a warm climate. Without more mesh, I would be very limited when I could use the tent. Which is sad because I REALLY WANT to use this tent. A little wider would be nice.
I hope those pull points don't leak.
Thank you again for the video

I live in New England. So for early spring, late autumn would be great. I camped and woke up to 25 degree nornings before. I like the quick setup. Some of the gazelle tents and ice shanties are a pain to pull the sides and don't fold back up that easy. As far as guidelines, my current backpack tent doesn't have them from the top either. But with my gear inside, never had a problem.

  • @RatdogDRB
    @RatdogDRB ปีที่แล้ว

I believe you mentioned this tent was designed to also be used with a cot. If so, then those guy line placement points make more sense for going from cot to ground. Indeed, higher guy line points added would be a big plus. Yes, more mesh.
I have the Teton Sports rendition of this concept and like it quite a bit, and have both rain flies (short/long) but prefer to use it w/o the fly beneath a baker tent style tarp set-up so I get that max airflow and rain protection from the tarp.

I frigging want one!!! I have a 10 man "pop up" tent. I love it. It's more time consuming than your average pop up though. I'd more so call it half pop up. Super cool though. The poles that are built into it, extend. Creates the whole base. And then you just need to put in the 2 or 4 poles for the top kinda like a normal tent.

Not to different than my military litefighter 1 tent. The guy outs are long and low on the corners because it was meant to be used on top of a cot like the litefighter 1 just different connections. Gives you that extra length in guy lines to make up for the cot height. Very quick setup though pretty impressive! Quality of materials and how it fairs in the rain is my only worries...? The tent is interesting, and it's roomy enough for one person doing late sprint to early fall camping, especially out of a car or off of a motorcycle. The two-person version is so close in price that it would be my preference for this manufacturer/line for moto or car camping. I don't care if it's a little warm because that generally works well in the northern half of the country, especially in the West where the humidity is lower and it gets cool at night. I like the fact that this tent can be mounted on top of a cot to get up off the ground, and that will also keep it cooler in the hot weather.
I would have liked to see you actually spend a night in it, and then finalize your report. This was really more of an overview than a true review. In fact, I'd like to see you use it in warm, cool, and rainy weather... so I don't have to (and risk trip failure)!

Agree, it has potential. But yeah, guy line points and maybe mesh doors on both sides. I think you were saying a triangular design with 3 pull-snap systems? I think that would be interesting. Not sure how it would work with mesh but thats an engineering problem. I like it though because it provides gear storage space, which this design does not. I like the potential in the design though. In foul weather conditions you can have a shelter set up in less than 5 minutes. I hope they take your suggestions as constructive criticism and keep working on the design.

Really like the easy set up. I would spend the extra 5 and get 2 person. That should help a little with Air flow and does need something to hold the top down. Would b great tent under normal conditions

This type of umbrella inspired setup can be found in Europe on several decathlon tents.
But they aren't light or ultralight like this one.
But they have an other party trick. They offer a fabric that makes it pitch black inside.

    Great review!
I wonder whether having guylines higher up would/could effect the poles and how they work?
I can't wait to see whether the hubs leak in an all-night downpour.

Oh cool, I have a tent from decathlon that uses the same pop up mechanism. This one looks lighter and packs down smaller. I like this feature for car camping.

This cot tent has potentials, as you said, if it can breath and stay dry. I do hope the factory take your recommendations of those mentioned modifications serious. As always, great review and comments.

I was watching winter camping in Kei Trucks in Japan, and the algorithm spit out folks hot tent camping with videos showing off the gear. I saw a mix of cot toppers and full one man tents set up inside the larger shelter. One of the videos showed a full transparent outer wall on the big tent for the view. I can see this being bought by their audience.

I tested a pop-up tent in a store. Roomy but, if ONE of the angled arms at the top breaks, the bowe breaks too. Could'nt, help myself on that one. 😅 Great option until the plastic connection stresses too much then it doesn't reconnect. Trying to recall the company, the concept was made like an umbrella.

    Hi Luke,
When you went inside the tent. You had your jacket on. Maybe if you would have taken it off. I think that would have made a little difference. God bless you and your family!

I agree 100 percent that people will spend the money for a good product as you said. I personally, would love to use this for me and my dog (maybe 2 p version) if different materials but the same design was used. I would gladly pay $300 - $350.

The pop up mechanism is a copy of those netted, food covers that keep the flies off the plate. Like a reversed umbrella mechanism. Cool.

the rubberized bell shape pull is also a cap for the hub to make it waterproof.

Back to the drawing board again over common sense elements that most tents should have. width, height, wind considerations plus rain proofing..wil water come in at the pull locations or will we have to surround them Vaseline to prevent leaking. I agree on the pricing this is more of a 2 season tent early fall to first frost maybe. This tent if corrected could make a great biking tent.

it would be awesome, if when you do your testing, you had a device that would measure the temp and humidity inside the tent, during the test. That does look super easy to put up and down... just wondering how long that "push" clip thing will last, looks like it is made of plastic? Thanks for the video. Take care, be well

I think the fabric inner is due to the tension of the pole system? I can’t see mesh being as strong, but I am no expert!

Are the long adjustable stakeout points so long because it is also ment to be used on a cot. . . . Maybe that is also why it is so narrow. Just a thought
