    Excellent job on this Joel. I plan on doing some Rabbit Farming up in Cambodia and was looking at so many videos but none really worked for me. I didn't want to use a wood frame as I remember through experience how messy that can be. I saw the wooden frames with suspended wire and thought , ok, not bad. Then I saw your PVC and waste collection system. Brilliant! It is almost too clean and orderly as I want to combine with Vermicomposting and thought I would make some kind of collection system on the bottom to utilize space. Still thinking about that one but I do like the separation of urine and feces that you have. Really nice, thanks a bunch.

      +Thomas Rossetti We are also going to do this but I was thinking about making it higher so I could use two 5 gallon buckets as a poo collection where the urine/water would drain out of the poo.

    Not sure what you have in the way of instructions but it would be wonderful if you have it documented somehow. I absolutely loved it. I have drooled over Rabbitech for YEARS. This looks totally doable. I used to raise NZW for meat. I had a crummy set up and always wanted to upgrade. Thanks for the video.

    I think this is a great video. For those thatn want to know how to build with PVC, maybe you should revisit lego. .... Normally PVC that I have looked at seem flimsy but this one looks fabulous. The trick with a PVC system is first build or purchase your rabbit cages and then start from there... tyvm Joel

    thank you Joel for the video on the pvc cage stands. i hade made mine out of 3/4 and designed them with trays. they still tended to wobble a bit. so i have re done with 2x3 lumber. not as happy with this design. do you have more pictures you could share of your stands, how many cages they hold and anything else you think would help to try your design. thanks again Leslie.

    Awesome! I use a very similar set up with the wavy plastic under all cages with screens to catch the poop and tubs to catch the urine. Over time I have found gunk really likes to build up on the plastic and nothing likes to slide off anymore. Mine are very hard to reach to clean. I eventually cleaned them and covered them with heavy duty plastic, like people put on their windows in the winter. That helped a lot. i wonder if there is anything you could spray on them to keep them nice and slick.

    • @ceepark114
      @ceepark114 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the problem I thought would happen with using the corigated plastic sheets, over time the feces and urine would build up and calcify, then it wouldn't slip down with gravity anymore.

    This is a brilliant set up. I only wish he had spent as much time on the pvc construction as he did the cages. I also wish he had backed up just a bit so the entire set up could be seen in one picture rather than such tight detail shots. I'm trying my best to duplicate it, but he sure did not make it easy.

  • @joelrfarmer
    @joelrfarmer  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jacob it is and inch and a quarter PVC schedule 40. it's holding up great. the only thing that I would change is I'd make it a little bit taller, so I could have more of an angle on the feces catch trays underneath the cages. and then also the catcher at the end needs to be more at angle as well. Other than that it works like a champ any more questions feel free to ask.

    • @Manlette
      @Manlette 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joel Farmer I know you just posed this comment but I have some questions. What angle would you consider correct 1%, 2%? How often do you flush the system? I am going to make a 12 foot rack based on your design with 4 cages in-line all outside with a roof. I currently have 5 doe and 1 buck. I am concerned about the weight. I plan on using 1.5 in. pvc you think I should use 2 in? If you would like I have some plans I could send you to review.... Thanks,

    I HAD A RABBIT RANCH IN WASHINGTON STATE AND I WATERED 200 RABBITS OUT OF ONE 5 GALLON BUCKET. Water is always level. You drill a hole in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket put a plastic tubing in it, then you drill a hole in the top of the bucket put a real good float in the top hole hook up a water line to the float. take that plastic tubing at the bottom of the bucket take it out to your rabbit cages. take the tubing in front of every cage you have. put a ( T ) in the tubing at every cage, drill a hole in every water bowl close to the top about half a inch or one inch put a tube in that hole take that tube attach it to the ( T ) do that to every water bowl in every cage. MAKE SURE EVERY WATER BOWL IS AT THE SAME LEVEL NOT A FRACTION OFF. Then go turn on the water when the float starts putting water in the bucket raise the 5 gallon bucket so the float will be the same height as the water bowls water level set the bucket on a sturdy stand that wont move and change the height. you might have to adjust the float several times to get the water level adjusted. have a small round bowl but deep to allow for the travel of the float in the 5 gallon bucket. if you put a lid on the 5 gallon bucket you will have drill a vent hole in the lid. with that float you won't need a regulator just use regular water pressure might have to put the small tubing iv a insulated pipe in the winter.

    How is the poo collection system working a year out? Have you solved the leaky automatic waterer problem yet? I've tried chicken water nipples that the rabbits love chewing through the plastic on and I've tried screwing water bottle drinker tops to a hose and they can't handle the water pressure from gravity. I have some all metal rabbit specific drinker nipples on the way that will hopefully do the trick.

      I’m in the process of making a new one. I sold the old one and made a more traditional one out of wood. But with the wood one I did find a better way to collect the waste. It works great. The water I found a great way to supply the water to them with no hassles. It is all in the video I will attach. When I have the next PVC one done I will post it. I have updated and added a few things, like a hands free Waterier to flush the waste which is set on a timer, the collection system which you will see on the video, and the water system. I hope this helps.

I'm working on one now that they will be side by side and not stacked just for ease of access. this way I will be able to incorporate a roof on it and it won't have to be so tall. I have been looking for an easily clean rabbitry, this will do me just fine, and at a cost savings. Thanks.
    I just subbed you channel, you have some ideas I can glean from for use over here at Pine Meadows Hobby Farm's channel. AWESOME.

    The idea is amazing and it looks awesome, but you shouldnt have bare wires as a bottom for your bunnies. They can get horrible foot problems and may not be able to walk if they continue to have that. Rabbit feet are like ours, if we were to stand on wire everyday, with our weight, we wound also have feet problems. Other than that, it looks awesome and its very creative!

      I have never had a problem with it but perhaps you could be correct. But as long as I've been doing it I haven't had that issue.

      I agree. No animal should stand on wire for their whole lives. Great design except for that.

      I haven't had any issues with the cage for rabbits and works great. But thank you for your concern.

      Same here, no issues. They even prefer laying down on the 1/2 x 1 wire than laying down on the tile I placed in their cage.
