- Tennessee Crossroads visits Wartrace, TN, home of a three-generation guitar making tradition. Gallagher guitars are well respected for their genuine craftsmanship, and as Tennessee Crossroads discovered, another secret to success is the family pride and harmony that's been passed down. Join Nashville Public Television's Tennessee Crossroads to find out more about Gallagher Guitars.
My wife and I visited Wartrace to visit the family graves in the cemetery. I had heard of the Gallagher guitar company from the recording of Merle Travis and Doc Watson’s conversation on the album “Will the Circle be Unbroken”. We knocked on the door, just hoping to meet the craftsmen. JW was very friendly and hospitable and welcomed us to see their shop. They are true craftsman, and I kept thinking they are the Stradivarius of the guitar world.
Beautiful Guitars! You got hold one !
I enjoyed this video and history lesson about Gallagher guitars. A shop with some highend guitars opened up for a while in my town.I was able to play a Gallagher,,,wow,,,,,what a sweet sounding well made instrument! Wish I could buy one!!!!
Never heard of them. Cool mini-doc.
I love the story and the guitars. I just sent links to some friends in Nashville. The family tradition and craftsmanship is beyond detailed. What bothers me are those ledgers. They can burn in a fire, wash away in a flood, blow away in a tornado. If they could get a local person to enter all the files (information all inclusive) into an Excel, Access, or other database. It could be backed up off site, far away from any destruction. Just drives me crazy that tradition may cost these folks their files.
My name is in that ledger from 2010.
i love the story behind the guitar & how it's made, but u didn't tell us anything about the talented fiddle player. she was great.
Neil Diamond's Gallagher guitar model?
Doc did not purchase that famous G50; J.W. Gallagher loaned it to him with the idea that Doc would give it back if he ever ceased using it. At least that what I was told.
Beautiful guitars are exspesive.😢That leaves me out.
So if Doc's guitar meant so much to them how did it wind up on the auction block?
Or buy!
