Great stories. I had Okinawan purple sweet potatoes in Hawaii. We used to bake them into southern style biscuits. Yummy. I wish I could find them now.

These treats look amazing! If I could try one thing, I wish I could try the jimami tofu! I love tofu so much, and I'd love to try this different type. I also would love to try the ginger squid. It looks amazing. Thank you for this great video. You two are wonderful, and thank you for brightening my days so many times with your videos! I'm grateful.

I was stationed at Camp Foster in 84-85. Wish I would have had a more open mind in my youth. I did not get the nerve to try Okinawan food until I was almost ready to go back to the US. Wish I could go back and try all the things I missed.

What a fine feast! I love being introduced to Okinawan cuisine. The tsukemono, squid, and peanut tofu looked wonderful. I'm also completely addicted to jasmine tea. I'm glad that you had a great trip to Okinawa. By the way, it's been fun seeing your trip to California on IG. I'll miss seeing local sites on your feed. Have a good flight back to Japan.

Hey guys. So good to see all the great things you enjoyed in okinawa. I mentioned the castella on instagram. In your other video you had okinawan muuchi wrapped in getto leaves which have a unique medicinal flavor. Okinawan castella was flavored with kuro sato, and steamed in (getto) shell ginger leaves :))) its called 'agarasaa'. wish you had gotten to try it that way fresh and warm from the steamer. Its amazing! and i agree those chinsuko are addictive. I make my own from time to time. You guys should make them in a video :))

I bought some Japanese beer here in the states, not realizing beforehand that it was blue. The experience was quite a disconnect, as I kept thinking it would taste like bubblegum!

I remember when my sister brought back some Okinawa snacks from when she worked at Club Med in Ishigaki Island. She brought home the Black sugar candy and some Chintsuko, funny thing we didn't know that Chintsuko is made with lard (I can read a little Hiragana and Katana so when I read the ingredients apparently lard was an ingredient), and by my understanding lard is pork fat, no? So being Muslim imagine our surprise when we found out that we had eaten something with pork in it hahahaha......we just shrugged and laughed because we had already demolished probably well over half the pack, with only 3-packets left which we ultimately gave to our dogs and cats (lucky them...)
To this day I regret ever reading the ingredients, because now I can't eat Chintsuko with the knowledge that it contains lard T_T my Mom said next time don't attempt to read or know what the ingredients are in foreign food, just close your eyes and pop it in your mouth, what matters is that it tastes good hahahahaha...that my Mom for you XD

Todd Wall it's a bit similar but much stronger and more complex tasting, with more nutrients in it too. If you've tasted molasses, it's more like a solid crumbly version of that - quite a deep taste 😊

I really need to try those chinsuko cookies!!! Are they available anywhere in Tokyo? The ingredients are similar to Filipino Polvoron but we add powdered milk and mold it into a cookie vs baking it. Some people refer to it as Manila Shortbread. Next time I visit my brother Jerome, I'll bring you guys some!! ❤️
