It's insane to think this was the movie that started a decade long franchise that also happened to be the biggest in history. Seriously think about that, a string of movies that ended with endgame which was a decade in the making... and it all depending on rather this movie was successful or not.

His trilogy ended early, but Stark's arc took the entirety of the Infinity saga. I think ending it that early was necessary because he came to find a sense of identity with himself in those three movies, but he still needed to figure out how that identity reflects upon the world.
But we might not have had an MCU if it weren’t for this movie starting it all. Imagine we had another movie to start the MCU but it was Thor 2-level of quality. The MCU would’ve gone the way the Dark Universe went.

When the Iron Man trailer dropped, I lost my mind. I grew up with Marvel, obviously loving the standards of Spiderman and X-Men, but I LOVED Iron Man. It’s interesting to go back to the early MCU movies. I wouldn’t say they are wildly different to the ones now by any means, but IMO they aren’t quite so….I guess processed is the word? Streamlined as a product? Idk, on the other hand, maybe the movies haven’t really changed all that much, but there’s just a lot more of them now so it stands out.
Probably has something to do with the amount of money they had at the time to make the films too. In the beginning, the "MCU" wasn't a solid thing yet, more risk in the production. Now, they are pretty much money in the bank, guaranteed...so they get bigger budgets to do more special effects. I love every single one of the MCU films. It's been a hell of a ride and happy to say I've been on this train from the beginning. Would definitely be daunting, though still fun, to get onboard for the first time now with, what, 27 movies under their belt. I just wish that DC had the foresight back in the beginning to take things slow, develop all the core characters and stories, then try to bring everyone together...instead of just trying to jump headfirst into a shared universe without paying the dues as Marvel did.
I’d say the biggest difference is the vision behind each film. Somewhere around phase 2 they developed a formula and since then each movie has had to fit it in someway regardless of the director. Phase 1 feels the most different because each movie feels like it’s director. Phase 4 is getting back to these roots
One cool think about Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man that most people overlook is that hes actually an accomplished martial artist. He's probably the best hand to hand fighter in the entire MCU, but they never use that in a scene.
That Burger King I don't think was product placement, I think it was intentional because of the sad story behind it and Robert Downey Jr. When he was at his lowest in life consumed by drugs and alcohol, it was a burger from burger King that made him turn his life around, he said that when he bit into that burger it was the most disgusting thing he had ever tasted and in that moment he threw all of his drugs into the pier and changed his life around from that moment forward. Since Ironman was the movie that gave him his chance again to do better, he added the burger King burger to that scene, the scene where Tony Stark makes his turn and now tries to do better

I watched Iron Man for the first time a couple weeks ago and it is easily one of my favorite movies now. The scene with the Jericho missile demonstration bugs me a lot because it’s one of those scenes that breaks the immersion. They didn’t think about how sound propagates. We are supposed to see the explosion long before we hear it and yet we hear it as it explodes, which is literally impossible. I know it’s science-fiction but they have comic book explanations for the more outlandish stuff. With the sound barrier thing, it’s just violating the laws of physics out of ignorance.
I think the later MCU suits lose a lot by being nano instead of physical. I get the pragmatic reasons why they do it, but you lose the feeling of power when characters armor up and it takes a team of robot squires. Something subtle in this movie is how Tony seems to have anxiety long before he also has ptsd. Signs of it laced all through the film. Notably his stiff presentation to the generals, which is only sold by a mix of actual passion for his work and undeniable results.

I suppose I could feel like the age difference is too great. Instead, I’m just remembering how I watched the Batman TV show in 1966 over and over and over again and how glad I am that I got to be a fan of comic book TV shows so early You are very lucky to be able to watch a movie as good as Iron Man with an actor as incredible as Robert Downey Jr. in a sense he’s the Adam West of the MCU

I think you also might like the blade trilogy movies, the guy who plays Daryl (Norman Reedus) from the walking dead plays a pretty cool character in the second blade movie. blade is a really cool type character and the movies are also quite cool, I think you'd like them : ). Watching iron man again lends question to some things in pacific rim, like how do they power their suits? Presumably it’s a nuclear reactor but if an arc reactor can barely power somet this small, how does a nuclear reactor power those giants😂😂
