I’m not going on a cruise. This could apply to any vacation. You helped me so much with packing. Especially for less clothes but more coordinated clothes.

What I took for 2 weeks cruising the Danube in Eastern Europe (7 days Budapest to Giurgiu, pre- and post-cruise extensions in Vienna and Istanbul) during the first half of August six years ago:
    Tops:
    -4 short sleeve polos
-2 short sleeve button ups (1 dressy, 1 casual)
-1 tank top (only wore once)
-2 t-shirts (only wore 1, and only on the ship)
-1 long sleeve shirt (didn't end up needing)
    -raincoat
-1/4 zip lightweight fleece (only wore once)
-long sleeve button up cashmere sweater
    Bottoms:
-2 mid-calf length skirts (wore the dressy one only twice (formal nights), wore the other almost every day)
-1 pair capri length gauchos (only wore 3 times)
-4 pairs of shorts (2 compression/bike, 2 soccer, mainly for under skirts - only wore one)
    -1 pair leggings (didn't wear)
    -1 pair slacks (didn't wear)
-1 pair zip-offs (wore the day we were both hiking and going in and out of churches but that was the only time)
    -underwear
*_Many of the churches and museums we went to were very strict about having knees and shoulders covered, so I'm very glad I brought tops with sleeves and longer skirts._*
    Footwear:
-1 pair black flats (for church and the 2 formal nights on the ship)
-1 pair black socks (church, formal nights)
    -1 pair sneakers (for touring)
    -1 pair flipflops
-several pairs liner and light/midweight wool socks
    Accessories/Other:
    -1 set pajamas (w/socks)
    -1 scarf (short/narrow)
    -1 swimsuit, goggles, noseplug
    -bath towel size packtowl
    -sunglasses, strap, and case
-24 oz waterbottle (clipped and strapped to outside of purse)
    -standard size carabiner
-little RFID-block wallet (coin purse, basically) tethered to strap inside purse
    -passport and RFID-block money belt
    -belt (didn't wear)
    -camera, extra batteries/memory cards
-battery charger, converter, adapter (shared by all 4 people in my family)
-toiletries (brush, comb, razor, deodorant, chafe relief stick, flossers, lotion, Dr. Bronner's, shampoo, conditioner, hair binders, feminine hygiene products, chapstick, peppermint lavender Badger balm (used on my feet every night) - all liquids travel size, didn't end up using shampoo & conditioner b/c plenty was provided everywhere we stayed)
    -backpack
    -purse
-book to read on the plane
    -mp3 player & earbuds
-travel size weighted blanket (doesn't count against carryon allowance)
    -bandanna (I can't use kleenex)
-travel pack of kleenex (to use as toilet paper if a public restroom was out of it - did actually have to use it for that once)
-meds and a few other medical items
    -journal and pencil
There was laundry service available on the ship, but I just handwashed (the packtowl really came in handy for that) things in the sink with provided shampoo as I went, and hung them up in the room to dry (our housekeeping lady was really great about it, especially when my and my sister's clothes were hanging up all over the room drying), so I never ran out of anything. We also ended up checking our suitcases (so I made sure to pack essential toiletries and an extra outfit in my backpack for the flight there), but all of my stuff (except the weighted blanket - I had a separate bag for that) fit into my school-size backpack and 19"-ish soft-sided carryon suitcase. I tightly rolled my clothes then put them vertically in regular 2-gallon ziplocs by category, squeezed basically all the air out (I don't need a vacuum or special bags to allow me to do this - I've been doing it my whole life), and packed them in my suitcase that way. Everything fit nicely with a fair amount of room to spare - I brought home an additional 4 scarves, pashmina size, and there was still room left over in both backpack and suitcase.

Love, love to cruise. I always have 2 pair of cropped pants, one black and one white. You can dress up or down with either for any dinner. For special nights, I have 2 thin over jackets that are sparkly, one silver and one gold. They pack to nearly nothing and just need a tank underneath. Dress them up with jewelry like you said. I bring both if I have more than one suitcase or just one it traveling light. We pay for the ship laundry service. And I wear these under arm dress shields, so I can wear a top more than once. Have fun cruising 🚢

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I’ve had both of my fancy jackets for a few years now. The silver one I got at Christopher and Banks. At Christmas time they tend to have these beautiful silvery very very thin jackets, Or blouses. The gold one I got at Macy’s ( on sale), that one is more of a true jacket 3/4 sleeve but it has these beautiful cut outs were some of its satin fabric and some of it is sheer and you can see through to the top underneath. The whole thing is this more muted beautiful gold color. They’re so thin they pack down to nearly nothing. Sometimes I fold them and just put them on top or other times I use the shirt packing folder and put the jacket in there along with my husbands good white shirt. Love your channel. 👚❤️😎✈️

A fine weave, light weight, merino jumper, is a wonderful addition to any man's carry-on airline bag. It remains crease free and can be worn under a suit jacket. Phil.

I'm traveling around the world for 6 months using just the smallest Away carry-on suitcase, and now I've decided to include a 7-day Mediterranean cruise in my itinerary! The few outfits I packed when I left 2 months ago will be fine for the ports and on board during the day, but I'm worried about the 2 more formal nights. (I don't even have any shoes that'll be okay for those nights.) I may just decide to eat at the buffet on those nights, because I don't have the budget to pay the prices for what I need in the ship shops, especially since I won't have room for them in my suitcase when I leave the ship.

I take the opposite clothing. I like solid bottoms like navy, khaki, and black. I then take patterned shirts that can go with any bottom. I learned this the hard way one time when I spilled food on a shirt I wanted to wear again. I could not get it clean enough to wear again.

All of your videos have been extremely helpful, since this is not only my first cruise, but also my first flights in 30 years. Your videos have helped so much with now knowing what to do & what to expect with the airport process as well as how to pack. Thanks to you, I'm able to go carry-on only. Very helpful tips ✌🏻I always choose a color palette for my travels, it’s so helpful. Most of the time I choose 4 colors, 2 or 3 neutrals and it’s all matching 🤓 If I go to a cruise I would wear a solid silk dress in black and/or a vibrant color on the dining event. Silk is so packable and elegant 🤩

I've taken several Alaska cruises and you need to be prepared for hot, cold and rainy days. A cashmere sweater with a scarf is perfect for cold. Definitely bring a packable, rain proof wind breaker with a hood. Layer the sweater, scarf and rain jacket and you will be warm. Don't forget to bring a pair of gloves, a hat(packable) and a couple pair of socks. You will enjoy your trip more if you are prepared.

Great tips Laurie! I no longer wear shorts, but do wear dresses. As I have T Rex arms, the 3/4 sleeves are great for me. I've always packed a black dress & pearls for every river cruise & my one cruise on the QM2 (where I met Miss Jane Russell) I was a size 6 then, so packing was easier. Now in a size 8, but still follow the same rules. With all your great shares I'll have to shop for a few additions to my capsule wardrobe. Thank you again for sharing~

At 5’3” maxi skirts are almost always too long. So what I do is if I want to wear as a skirt wedge sandals or pull it up and safety pin to a strapless bra and then knot a button up shirt over it to hide the pins and to “belt” it at your waist. I have even worn this to work and all the ladies said I love your dress!!!

As a side note, the churches etc. you'll be going to may or may not have this rule (might be worth it for you to check, just in case), but many churches and museums in Europe have a rule where knees (and shoulders) have to be covered in order to enter, and the ones that have that rule do enforce it. Thought I'd mention that, just in case it's something you run into.

I’ll be cruising the British Isles in June w/a mixture of hiking (Scotland!) & city excursions in changeable weather so versatile layers are a must: it CAN be done.

Interesting video but I wear dressier clothing all the time than what you are suggesting. After taking 30+ cruises I've learned that elegant looking outfits "that fit" (that's the important secret) doesn't increase the amount of clothing I need to pack. I just feel so much better in something stylish, the sloppy worn out looking clothes are a big negative! Notice how the Crew and other passengers relate to you.... Suggesting cut off shorts is fine if you're young and in great shape, same thing for tiny, short and tight dresses, but we all have seen women in their 70s trying to wear that look and they are often very overweight too, OUCH! Classics work for me in all situations.

Plus we're doing tattoo days in London prior to the cruise. My mom, my husband, son, and I are looking forward to it but ten days in a cabin with my mom while my husband is in the other cabin with my son will be tough. Laurie, just wanted to share maybe a new trend for TSA. Just flew round trip domestically and both airports we did not have to take out anything out of our carryons to put in the grey bins (except shoes and belts of course.) I personally think it makes the xray process longer but it's a little more convenient.

Personally, I wear flats, which are available in several colors from completely plain and matte to cloth with quilted pattern to patent leather with super fancy deco on the toes, from wide rounded toes to really pointed toes, and everything in between - just depends what you're looking for. If you want to wear socks with them but don't want them to show, they make no-show socks that are designed to be worn with flats (I got a 3-pack at Walmart for 7 or 8 bucks, so they're readily available for not too much - I've been wearing the same pair for 4 years (4 years later, Walmart still carries them) and they're still holding up perfectly fine).

@@SnowySpiritRuby my whole foot is very wide, not just my toe area. I find mens shoes are a better fit because overall the shoe is roomier. Unfortunately they don’t make mens flats/heels (or if they do, they aren’t affordable)
