This is so intelligent. I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to start seeds the right way without all the expensive stuff everyone else has and I see this video. Thanks for sharing!
👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🙏 I planted some lettuce seeds in small Dollar store bathroom trash bins. Also planted Stevia seeds in another bucket. Have them indoors in front of a window for now.
Sounds perfect. As far as the soil, if you are using the Dollar Tree soil and it does not do well, switch to another brand next time like Miracle grow potting soil...so far I am not crazy about there soil, just a note, take care
This is such a wonderful way (portable, too) to baby my baby plants. I covered mine with another lid before tonight's rain. Snug as aa bug until the sun is out again. Thank you, Robbie.
I use clear plastic totes and a large clear trash bag to make the top and tomato or plant clips from the dollar tree to make mini greenhouses and just leave them on my front porch. They get lots of sunlight and are healthy and beautiful when it's time to plant. Leaving them on the porch does a winter hardening off and I don't have that extra step when planting in spring. I already have bell peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, artichokes and a dozen herbals growing like this. The dollar tree has plant domes for flower pots and just punching a small hole in the top side I zip tie the dome onto the flower pots. Works like a charm!💜
Now, I know where my whole tub of chard seedlings went last spring--- disappeared! Robbie, I had no idea rolly polly bugs were bad!!! I am approaching my second spring of gardening. Thank you so much for your knowledge!!
I enjoyed your daughters video today as she was pelted with hail. She sounds like you, very bubbly. I haven’t started seeds yet but maybe next week I will make a greenhouse. My Flashfish power station comes today. Thanks for the guidance on that.
Wonderful, you are going to love it! AND perfect for if the Lights go OUT, which could happen here in the next few days, thought we were going to lose it today, with all the thunder and lightening, as the lights were flashing. I ran to unplug all electronics, and charge up my ipad with the Flashfish Unit, knew that was safe to use, all was good. Plants in my mini greenhouses are all fine, some in the garden do not look good...oh well. Take care and stay safe.
I am so excited because most of the seeds (greens) I started on Sunday have germinated. I just picked up my first 3 totes to transfer them into someday soon. Thank you for sharing amazing ideas.
Thank u, I'm in southern California an haven't planted anything yet an today we got blasted by this winter storm , we even have snow but I also live near wrightwood
Here too, thunder lightening hail, and tomorrow they say Blizzard Conditions, I know many plants will not make it through this, so I will just have to start again on those, already planning, STAY SAFE and WARM, Take care
I used totes to plant potatoes, etc. We have snow here in Idaho 😺 Going to be planting seedlings soon in the house 🏠 I love hummingbirds also. You have a very Blessed day 💓🙏🤗🌺
I love the idea. Just need to get my hands on some totes. Yesterday the temperature was in the 70 something and today is in the 40 and very windy going down to the30's. Thanks Robbie😇
Thank you for sharing the seed guy. I just ordered a bunch of different items. I have my whole back yard full of totes ready to go. I have my whole house full of babies ready to be outside. 😇😊
Thank you so much for demonstrating how to make a mini green house for seeding. I will definitely start my seeds tonight since the temperature in Georgia is dropping this weekend.. I brought some of my plants on the deck back inside.
You are always so happy-making to listen to, Robbie. Educational, yes, but wow, uplifting and fun, which is why I chose your video to watch at this 3:45 am hour 😁
I really need to make this, I have to go shopping for a totes. Thank you Robbie. Robbie maybe put some blanket over your most precious plants, if you don't have frost cloth. Good luck my friend.
I already do such greenhouses just cover top with plastic cover.. but I love your idea about soil and heating things underneath.. Thanks for such video!
I wish I could share a pic of my in house mini tubs. I have garlic, spring onions and leeks growing. I’m about to start a batch of determinate tomatoes.
I live in what is a pretty cool to colder winter climate in Zone 8B here in the 3, 500' elevation in the Mohave Desert. I have seeds started in the big South window in a spare bedroom. I am having to wait about 3-4 weeks to start transplanting. In the high 20s at night outdoors. Ugh. I may try to make your greenhouse kit but put plastic flap with velcro to fasten with the tulle under so I can easily water and also keep the whole warmer outdoors under the carport or porch roof.
You are a true inspiration! I LOVE your videos - they are so reflective of your wisdom, creativity and passion for gardening. Sincere appreciation for all of the ideas and guidance you share with your viewers. Would you recommend I start with clear plastic sheeting over the top of my tote container for my seeds and replace with tulle once they graduate/sprout into seedlings? I reside in the Mid-Atlantic and it is still crazy weather here - ranging from high 50s -70s for a few days then drops at night to 30s. I hope everyone enjoying the knowledge you provide remembers to hit the "Like" button and subscribe (and of course, Eat what they grow). 😁
Thank you so much. You could put the tulle and then you could still cover the top with some plastic so you can lift that off on some days when it’s not in the 30s we’re in the 40s and I’m just going with tulle, and it works fine 😊
It's time for me to start my seeds, so I'm back to watching. Hopefully, this year will be better than last cause my totes didn't do so great last year.
This works Perfect, and the seedlings grow like crazy in these, should have my new video I just finished today, up soon, you can see them in there. Thanks
I love this idea and to staple the tulle on the lid is brilliant ! I unfortunately am dealing with a full sun situation that is frying my herbs. Because I’m on a rental spot I am limited where I can place items and also hopeful they don’t blow away in tornado alley .
Thank you for another wonderful informative video : ) I don't want to be pushy and I feel a little embarrassed but here goes (don't feel obliged to reply : ) ). A couple of videos back I asked if you maybe have a PO box number (to keep your privacy) because I have a little something that I'd like to send you to say thank you. I promise that I won't mention it again....now I'm thinking about it I'm second guessing myself and maybe you won't want it. Mm. As an aside....my zucchinis are looking promising...Ssh I'll keep quiet and keep everything crossed. Here's hoping : ) Angela X
Hello! I just love watching you both. I'm going to try this for sure. I live in the White Mountains of Arizona and it snows up here. This year 2023 was a very good year for us. Pine trees needed the moisture, but it's hard for me to start seedlings outside. I believe this will work. I'm not sure how to garden with veggies. I do want to learn . I have watched ur hummingbird video's and some video's on container gardening, but when I tried to grow cucumbers in a horse container. I think what I did wrong when made the soil to rich. I got large leaves and only a couple of flowers the whole season ,but no fruit. Do u think I made the soil to fertile? What kind of soil do veggies want? I want food not leaves. Please help. Thank you.
Hi Robbie. I put out my peas a week ago or so I sprouted using your new pencil box method. I covered my tubs with the hoods I made last year. Yesterday I went out in the morning to check on them, and was shocked to see *every bit of tulle* stripped from *all* my tubs! I just stood there with my mouth hanging open! I suspect the squirrels took it to make nests for their babies. I can't believe how efficient they were at stripping all the tulle off about 5 tubs overnight. Have you heard of that before?
If tulle is used on hoop beds etc birds, hedgehogs, foxes and rabbits can get wrapped up in it. That’s not to say don’t use it - but just make sure it’s not going to fold or be on something that might collapse creating an accidental trap.
Did you put holes in those totes? I have found a tote at a parking lot and I was going to use it as tier gardening like yours 😊👩🌾👍 thanks Robbie ♥️👍👩🌾
I am using some clear totes with a piece of plastic over the top secured with a rubber ban trying start some of my own flowers this year instead of buying them ive never tried it before, i live in Ohio
Hail today, no snow YET, thunder lightening and COLD, tomorrow is suppose to be blizzard conditions (????) We will see, and we will let you know, THANK YOU

@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Question. What did you use to cut the plastic off the top of the bin?
@@DaughterOfZion-fk8qk I believe she said she has another video that she shows on getting the lids cut.
@@nocatfishnana1923 Oh, ok. By any chance do you know the name of the video? Thanks.
Thanks so much. $100 for a small green house is crazy. I can't love this enough.

Glad it was helpful! That is just in case something gets in there you may not want as the seedling start to grow. Thanks!
Hi Robbie 👋. Hope you have a great weekend 👪 😀 😊 ☺️

😊
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy thank you ! I had not even consider this but this is a great idea! Happy planting :)

Lots of wildlife’s day and night! And Pepe’ Le Pew 🦨 was cute, just don’t scare him or he’ll leave an everlasting scent in your garden

Genious

Amazing! Thank you :)
Good job thanks ❤
Awesome! Thanks!
@RobbieAndGary : I hope you are doing well and that you don't get snowed in !!!!
That's very similar to the Winter Sowing in milk or juice jugs method. Your method will be perfect for warmer climates.
i use tulle with a bungie cord, saves on cutting

I saw on the news the hills outside L. A. were getting snow and wondered if how you were doing. If you had any.
