I joined the brotherhood in 2010 after joining I found out 2 of my great uncles were brothers years later at a visiting hrs for a cousin I found out 2 cousins were brothers and the cousin that was in the viewing was one of the 2 cousins who were brothers the other one died a couple years ago now and after joining I found out that a guy who I knew from a Christian weekend mens retreat was a brother as well one of the biggest reasons why I joined was to honor the memory of a old family friend who was a brother and I looked at him and his wife as grandparent type figures he had died before I was old enough to ask him about masonry so I joined the lodge as a way I could honor his memory

How can any organisation justify a separation of the genders in their meetings? This is beyond absurd. If the reasons are not clearly explored or explained by those in the group that are in a position to give the lay person a thorough run down, then how could anyone of any age consider being part of such a stupid thing? If I'm missing something important here, why then is this point not clarified by the man encouraging interest in the club?
Because it is their choice, that's justification enough. Female-only and mixed organisations exist as well and everybody is free to choose an organisation that suits their lifestyle best.
@chrisgmurray3622 The rules on membership have been tweaked, somewhat. A woman who transitions to be a man, can apply to join. We'd never know anyway, because it's not something we ask. If an existing Mason transitions to be a woman, no resignation is required and that person can continue to be a member.

I speak as always for myself and don't , unlike many, claim to be representing the outlook of any group think or movement. I only am quite sincerely asking, WHY would anyone want that, when I can't think of why anyone would. This doesn't mean I judge those that have reasons for being part of something,which to me appears stupid. I just don't know what those reasons would be. Maybe it doesn't matter, but to me, life is for learning, and if you don't ask or show any curiousity you'll never know anything. In your answer, you still don't declare what those reasons are, but state vaguely, Because it suits their lifestyle etc... @@chrisgmurray3622 Chris, at the end of the day, it's simply tradition. In 1723, James Anderson was asked to put together a set of rules. They became known as the Anderson's Constitution. As the year was 1723, attitudes toward women were very different to those of today. Women, by and large, took no decisions, owned no businesses, did not own property. This was very much the purview of the men in society. Consequently, it was written in to the constitution, that Freemasonry was a male concern. One of the other rules set, was that these rules were unalterable and constant. In other words, for the constitution to stand at all, it could not ever be changed. Freemasonry, being true to tradition and to rules and regulations, upholds the constitutions of 1723. There have been surveys that have revealed that the vast majority of women, if allowed, would still not wish to join Freemasonry.
