The longer I live and the more challenging life gets, the more I agree with Peggy that it is better to be mercenary (to some extent) than to be miserable. Most women ugly or beautiful who marry for love seem to end up either being taken for granted or treated like shit eventually anyway. Better to have money that you can use to purchase great life experiences for yourself long term.

I saw Peggy Hopkins Joyce in an old movie called “International House” (1933). Her reputation with men was made clear in the movie - it was a running gag thru out! I absolutely love these videos!
Considering that women not only didn´t have any rights but also were suffering from economic inequalities big time. And this systemic inequality were put in place by men so that they could hold the power and control over every aspect of women lives. That being known, I innerstand why women had to do whatever it took to be financially secure. I enjoyed learning about Peggy. My grandmothers were of this era and were also attractive ladies. But the comparison ends there as they were God fearing, proper ladies.
