I love this survivor story because it was a black girl being rescued by a black woman, you know the way it always works, not how hollywood portrays it with a lily white man or woman. This was the real stuff.
She had to have been an incredibly strong woman to have survived such a horrific childhood. For every Eartha Kitt, there are hundreds of women in that situation that don't survive it. If not for her aunt, we'd probably not know her at all. She was an amazing woman.
I never knew this about her childhood. My mother introduced me to her in the 70's. I first saw her on tv playing cat woman on batman. As an adult l moved to the west coast where l got a chance to see her perform at a supper club twice. She was amazing, and a true trailblazer and legendary.

She made a big mistake however in being against the US in Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh murdered many thousands of his North Vietnamese in a deadly land reform in the 1950s. Even Ken Burns showed this in the former's book. Kitt was not perfect!
After the CIA surveillance of her became public, Eartha did return to Broadway. I seen Eartha Kitt in concert many years ago, in Seattle (The Moore theater). I forget exactly what year, about 1989. I remember her doing just what you said. She was incredible! Especially singing that one song with the spot light on her, as she danced around and walked back and forth across the stage. That song she sang was called "Have Nagila". An old traditional Jewish song. The best, and most enjoyable version I have ever heard from anyone. It was incredible.

You did a fantastic unbiased documentary on Eartha. It was filled with your compassion and understanding of her traumatic years and ended with a Phoenix rising from the ashes. My point of view is that even through the black list, you showed the viewers one of her many qualities, her amazing ability to rise above and always be a lady of class. She was a lady always. Thank you.
What an amazing story. Eartha Kitt was an amazing woman. Thank God for her aunt and that relative who contacted her aunt to rescue her. They literally saved saved her!
You forgot to mention her extraordinary role in the hit play, Timbuktu in 1978. I met her in person while waiting outside the stage door! What a remarkable presence!
Don’t assume that he forgot. Eartha Kitt had a very long, very active life. She did a lot of things. Even if the video was hours long he wouldn’t be able to include everything.
@@fred3467 I wasn’t really chastising you either. I was just pointing out that if something is not included in the video it’s not necessarily because the person making the video forgot to include it. Wow, what an incredible person Earths Kitt was!!! Little did I know what she persevered through when I watched Batman reruns as a child. You do fantastic work and I can't thank you enough. This expose on Earths Kitt is so powerful and there is much more you couldn't include. A huge thank you to her aunt for saving Eartha's life.
I used to be fascinated with Eartha Kitt when I was a little girl. I remember my grandparents having her on TV and there was just no one else like her at the time! This was a fascinating story of her life, and may I say, very well narrated! Thank goodness there was no robotic voice.
I met Eartha in a tiny club in Calgary. She was so gracious, with an astonishing amount of class and you could never mistake that voice. I adored her from the first moment and will never forget her.
I am only 11 minutes in this amazing video, and just stopped to say how happy I am to learn so much about Eartha, presented in such a nice (and non-sensational) manner. The effort and enthusiasm you put in your channel is highly appreciated.

I love her story.. From an abused and unwanted little girl to a beautiful, clever, multi talented, super cool Lady! When she played Catwoman, the rolling of the R's was brilliant. I love her stance against the Nam War very very much. Her devotion to her daughter was lovely. ✨Yzma✨ ❤
Amazing. Always liked her in Batman, always thought she was beautiful and had an absolutely perfect figure, but never knew about any of her early life, or how she overcame it. 5 languages, at least? A literal genius on top of it all, just amazing. Oh, and Santa Baby is one of the sexiest songs of all time, made at a time when sexuality had to be conveyed entirely through innuendo.
I was a child in the 50s but Eartha was one of my favorite singers back then. She was also my favorite Cat Woman. Eartha's story is a great testimony of overcoming great odds while maintaining personal integrity
Enjoyed this; Eartha was a class act as well as a great mom ... so sorry to find out she had to go through torment as a young child, betting her abusers are paying a heavy price right now in a hot place ...

@@shadowlouise ...that would be great. I'm a big Eartha Kitt fan and i would love to hear and see more about her. Thank you for making this small documentary about her. I didn't know she was part Native American. She makes me so proud cause I'm from the Hopi Tribe jn Arizona and i love the way she dtood her ground eith truth and knew when to use for her advantage to make great changes. What she said to Lady Byrd Johnson was sooo true about our young sons being recruited or drafted for the wars and put on the frontlines to fight. The President couldn't handle the truth and blacklisted Eartha but she was patient and smart so in the end it all came out and made him look like a fool. He's one President i didnt like.
I've never been to or heard of this channel before. Holy smokes, this was one hell of an intro. Outstanding job my friend as I was a fan of Eartha Kitt as a kid. One of my favorite movies with her was the one she did with Nat King Cole. She truly embodied what I consider, "A REAL WOMAN." God rest her soul.
I knew she was a special person, but didn't realize the extent of her strength, resilience, activism, and philanthropy. Thank you so much for this. If you ever make that longer version I'll definitely watch it!
I've shared this - it needs to be spread far and wide. Younger people may not even know who she is. I only VAGUELY knew about her despite growing up in the 60's - Her story deserves telling to a wider audience. Thank you for doing this. Well done.
That's why that so called black history month is a farce, they feed us MLK and Rosa Parks but they're so many many stories that go untold. It benefits no one that our history our true history goes untold
This is the most comprehensive and enlightening story of Eartha I have ever heard! There are many interesting facts I never knew that this amazingly fascinating doco revealed to me. Eartha has a voice whether she is singing or talking that is so singularly unique. She is sexy, uninhibited, challenging yet strong, defiant and confidently proud. I've always adored her singing voice and now I admire her courage in adversity. Wonderful doco from that superb man who narrated it! Thank you kindly.
What an awesome story. I'm 64 and loved her as catwoman. Touched by her life story, if only more children could have been rescued from their horrible life... God bless
Classy dame. She definitely deserves more recognition for her achievements. Let her memory be an inspiration to us all. R.I.P Ms. Kitt. May there be more like you.
This video steers so much emotion, after all of that the only thing I can say is what a magnificent woman. It's wonderful that her daughter is continuing in her name .
Wonderfully done! I've always thought of Ms. Kitt as creative, talented and exotic. Her start in life was very terrible and horrible, but for taking chances to make a great life for herself she's got guts. A great lady.
Fabulous woman and considering her background, she was never bitter and only used her fame to help those less fortunate. I remember seeing her on stage in Edinburgh back in the 1990s and being swept away.
What an incredible journey she made, truly. (why were her henchmen so doofus-y looking? LOL---haven't watched that show in so long) Eartha was what's called "a triple threat" with the singing/dancing/acting, but with her gifts for piano and languages as well, she must have had an astounding brain! She overcame so much. Thanks for the video.
Wonderful video about a woman of great character. My mom was a fan and I surprised her by taking her to see Ertha's nightclub show at the Carlisle in NY. I was probably in my 30's and she was probably twice my age. See sat in front and wouldn't you know she came to our table and teased at me like a cat in heat. My Lord what a performer, beautiful mover and a voice like silk. A once in a lifetime moment!
Excellent video. I had no idea about Eartha Kitt's history and all that she had to overcome. My main memories were from watching Batman as a child. I did have the privilege to see her perform in Stephen Sondheim's "Follies" performed in London's West End - back in the 80's. She was extraordinarily talented. Thanks for researching and sharing her story!
She is such a hero and outstanding human being. So accomplished !! Such spirit and devotion to the truth. This is a great video !! I’ve been a fan forever !!
I've really enjoyed your biographies of characters from what I consider the golden age of TV! Awesome job! But your video on Eartha Kitt really opened my eyes! I had no idea of her past. I remember watching her on talk shows of the late '60s and early '70s and she was always really interesting and provocative...and talented! But to hear about how she had to struggle...WOW! What a courageous lady she was! Thanks so much for taking the time to do all this research. I'm sure you really "burned the midnight oil" working on this! BRAVO!
Thank you for this great story. Eartha Kitt had a certain sexy classiness about her. In spite of her cruel childhood, she rose above it, took chances, and became a true master of herself and surroundings.
Eartha Kitt was an absolute inspiration, full of passion, talents with immense fierce survivor mode and a multi-lingual beauty inside and out! Awesome video!
Yes! One of my favorites ~ thank you! :) Edited to say, after watching the video, this was absolutely the *BEST* Eartha Kitt video I have ever seen & I appreciate all your dedication, hard work, and obvious love for Eartha Kitt. Also ~ Thank goodness for Aunt Mamie and whichever relative contacted her!
If anyone needs a hero, they found one in Eartha Kitt. What a survivor and I hope this inspires others who have suffered abuse and bigotry. Thank you for telling her story and doing it so respectfully. I was a kid watching Batman and that purr of hers was chilling, I really believed she had claws and knew how and when to use them, and now I see that's true in her life too, not just as Catwoman. Did anyone else notice that the Catmobile also purred 31:23? I remember the Smothers Brothers getting cancelled by CBS in 69 because they refused to stop criticizing Nixon and Viet Nam. It was the summer of love, but also another summer of fighting a no-win unpopular war that just wouldn't end. I had already lost an Uncle serving over there. That was a shame Smother Brothers got cancelled, it was a really good show and they did not fear to speak truth to power either. Maybe an idea for a future episode?
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary on Eartha Kitt and admittedly got quite angry upon learning some of the struggles she went through which should have never happened. I will always remember that cat purr of hers. An amazing woman indeed.
It might have been an hour and a half long but I'd, and I'm sure others, would have been here for the WHOLE thing! Thank you, for this. I never knew about Eartha's early life. I loved her, the day I "met" her on the Batman '66 reruns (In the 70's). She had eyes that could look into your soul and she was GORGEOUS!
Thank you So Much for bringing Us, The Beautiful Eartha Kitt, I truly Absolutely Love Her Completely, What a Phenomenal Woman, Rest in Power Beautiful Eartha Kitt
Thank you. This is one of the stories we need to hear these days. A woman who put truth first and dealt with everything as it came, who, while finding what felt right for herself, never forgot to aid others as she went. Someone who faced all the sexism and racism, who took the results of her stands in stride but never forgot to look for when she could make a difference, and who held her head up high and proud. Despite a completely different (and far less difficult) path, there are a lot of lessons I can take from her life. Thank you for reminding us of this beautiful person and her meaningful life. Peace.
What an incredibly strong woman Eartha Kitt was . It is heartbreaking to hear how she became so strong. I admire her standing up and speaking the truth as well as using her celebrity to benifit so many others . I liked her as a performer but I love the person she really was
I love this one! Eartha has long been one of my favorite stars, but I had no idea how amazing she really was. She was a brilliant, powerful, delightful, loving, strong woman . . . admirable in so many ways. The truest definition of beautiful. Thank you very much for your work.
What an incredible artist. It's deeply unsettling to consider how close Eartha Kitt came to having a dismal and brutal life on the family plantation; all of her talents remaining dormant or squandered.
I think like a Phoenix rising from the ashes she would have shone brightly in a fashion all her own. She would have been an influence for any that touched her path.
What a wonderful documentary on Eartha Kitt. She was a great part of my childhood on Bat Man. I am proud of her when I learned of the changes she was able to make to society just by sticking to her principles! Thank you so much for her story!
Such as exceptional life - I'm so happy to have learned more about Ms. Kitt - I had only been exposed to her as Catwoman on Batman and later in life to her rendition of Santa Baby! Truly an amazing life.
This video is amazing! That woman was a pioneer, a class act, and great human being. She deserves so much respect on her legacy. I really enjoyed this video and I learned so much.
Very well done retrospect of an amazing survivor of so many wrongs done to her. Eartha Kitt is the role model that people should aspire to be. And thank you, Jimmy Carter, for righting those wrongs that she endured. Two great human beings.
What an absolutely great story and such a wonderful woman! Sad that her childhood was hard, but coming from a somewhat difficult childhood myself it is easy to respect what it made her do.
I was always taken by the idea of a bilingual or if not a multiple language in song and this talented woman comes along and does just that long before my time. Amazing life she's lived and naming her daughter Kit and stating how she complets her long before it got to be echoed throughout the Jerry Maguire movie. I'm just blown away by everything she has accomplished.

Gerald Tamblyn Jr Holbrook Massachusetts USA.
We love you so much ERTHA AND KITT !
Thank you.
😁💜
I'm heartbroken and crying to hear about Eartha's early life. I had no idea. What an incredible life. Rest in Peace. X
Me too😢
Me too! 😥
Miss Eartha was always a class act. Smart, accomplished and a beautiful spirit. Young Hollywood should take a page from her book.
And the majority of female singers... Most of them act like strippers these days.
What an amazing story. Eartha Kitt was an amazing woman. Thank God for her aunt and that relative who contacted her aunt to rescue her. They literally saved saved her!
I hope the family she was with before feels embarrassed and forever feel shame for what they did to her
You forgot to mention her extraordinary role in the hit play, Timbuktu in 1978. I met her in person while waiting outside the stage door! What a remarkable presence!
Like I said, there was so much more to her story, I couldn't fit it all in one video 😁💜
Don’t assume that he forgot. Eartha Kitt had a very long, very active life. She did a lot of things. Even if the video was hours long he wouldn’t be able to include everything.
@@vladtheimpala5532 err I wasn’t chastising him. I was really just sharing a memory.
@@fred3467
I wasn’t really chastising you either. I was just pointing out that if something is not included in the video it’s not necessarily because the person making the video forgot to include it. There are other reasons for leaving things out.
Sorry if I made you feel like you were being chastised.
Loved this. So inspiring. Eartha was one of the few who used her power and wealth to effect positive change in our world.
Just like Dolly Parton
No robots here, just a regular person learning about all of my favorite people of Television and the Movies 😁👍
I met Eartha in a tiny club in Calgary.
She was so gracious, with an astonishing amount of class and you could never mistake that voice.
I adored her from the first moment and will never forget her.
😁💜💜💜
I never knew how amazing She was until This Video. She was a Real Hero. Amazing.
Certainly no one deserved success more than Eartha.
And no more deserving in handcuffs more than that one guy, cosbi.
Yes it’s stating that way.
For a least deserved human.
I am only 11 minutes in this amazing video, and just stopped to say how happy I am to learn so much about Eartha, presented in such a nice (and non-sensational) manner.
The effort and enthusiasm you put in your channel is highly appreciated.
I had to stop too and share this on my FB page 💕
He has the voice for this. Amen
I had the same rewarding as you. What an awful start in life. But she was a star from the start. And aren’t we lucky she made it life fir joy she has given us! Right, it’s 5.30am in England. Time for breakfast tea and gin… 😀
@@paulwestcott2579 my God did you say tea and gin?....I'm speechless...thanks...
Wow! This story of E. Kitt had me cheering and crying at the same time. What woman and the things she went through growing up. Good bless Aunt Mami for saving her life and shame on those who tormented her. Thank you for tell8ng this wonderful story of this great woman.
I love her story.. From an abused and unwanted little girl to a beautiful, clever, multi talented, super cool Lady!
When she played Catwoman, the rolling of the R's was brilliant.
I love her stance against the Nam War very very much.
Her devotion to her daughter was lovely.
✨Yzma✨
❤
Actually, "Santa Baby" came out the same year that Playboy magazine started (1953).
she has a great figure. but nowhere near Julie newmar.
Thank you, Cool Classics, thank you Eartha -- rest in the peace you created.
A woman who bowed down to no one-- an inspiration!
And the puuuuuurfect Catwoman too !! 🐈⬛😺🤣
I was a child in the 50s but Eartha was one of my favorite singers back then. She was also my favorite Cat Woman. Eartha's story is a great testimony of overcoming great odds while maintaining personal integrity
Her voice was perrrrrrrrfect for Catwoman! She was so much more, her singing the best, her beauty. Loved her!
Wow she was amazing!!! A very strong woman who endured so much in her life. I’m not sure how she did it, but I bet her daughter is very proud.
Enjoyed this; Eartha was a class act as well as a great mom ... so sorry to find out she had to go through torment as a young child, betting her abusers are paying a heavy price right now in a hot place ...
As would her father and the people who caused them to be so helpless as to take it out on a child.
Not really
The Hot Place is very Hot and for a long-long time ... don't think I'd be risking it; nope, nope, don't wanna go there, don't wanna go there
@@richardbennett6237 At least the one who did the raping and his ilk were the ones who believed or knew about such a place before committing their crimes.
@@notjustbaggish In that case, they can expect greater punishment
What a beautiful mini documentary, lots of suspense mixed with brutal truths and although she is gone her legacy will forever love on. To love is to live and that she did.
Max, I am glad that you enjoyed my video on Eartha! She was a true survivor and always fought for the underprivileged. Thank You for the Super Thanks and being a cool person! 😁
YO! What's creepy is that you and your kind... don't do programming on americaKKK greatest white supremacist privilege PIMP HUGH HEFFER!
You know what would help that? A movie. Or a mini-series. Telling the whole story, the whole truth, as she would.
What an amazing woman and story well told.
I'm 76, so she has been a vague figure for most of my life, but this really put some meat on the bones.
Glad you found the channel and liked the video :)
This world could use a lot more people like Ms. Eartha Kitt! Thank you for telling her story! What an amazing woman!
There are a lot more, just their story has to be researched and told. 😁
I knew she was a special person, but didn't realize the extent of her strength, resilience, activism, and philanthropy. Thank you so much for this. If you ever make that longer version I'll definitely watch it!
She is undeniably a strong, resilient woman.
Thank you so much! What a respectful work telling Ertha’s story. Thank you for your hard work in covering her life, bravo!
Years ago, I saw an interview with her talking about being "a yellow baby", the pain in her eyes was heartbreaking. Love to her.
I've shared this - it needs to be spread far and wide. Younger people may not even know who she is. I only VAGUELY knew about her despite growing up in the 60's - Her story deserves telling to a wider audience. Thank you for doing this. Well done.
Thank You Stephen! I am glad you got so much from this video 💜
STRONG BEAUTUFUL BLACK WOMAN WHOM WILL BE MISSED, ONE SEXY WOMAN AS WELL..!!!
Eartha has a voice whether she is
singing or talking that is so singularly unique. She is sexy, uninhibited, challenging yet strong, defiant and confidently proud. I've always adored her singing voice and now I admire her courage in adversity. Wonderful doco from that superb man who narrated it! Thank you kindly.
Such kind words! Thank You so much! 💜👍
What an awesome story. I'm 64 and loved her as catwoman. Touched by her life story, if only more children could have been rescued from their horrible life... God bless
💜
Classy dame. She definitely deserves more recognition for her achievements. Let her memory be an inspiration to us all. R.I.P Ms. Kitt. May there be more like you.
Eartha purred the best!
So petite and adorable 😍
Thx for sharing her story.
Most of it I had absolutely no idea.
💜
What an excellent portrayal of Eartha!! Thanks 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love that I got to know even more about the amazing woman, thank you for this video.
💜👍
BRAVO!
Thank You Matt! I really appreciate the kind words and you noticing all the effort put into this video😁👍
I never knew her story. What an absolutely special, strong, and deeply caring person she was. Wow. Legend.
What a Wonderful Tribute! Love your biographies ❤️
I love Eartha Kitt and thank you for sharing her life story! Her Aunt saved her life. Amazing how 1 caring person can change a life.
💜
She was a great lady. Saw her once onstage-wasn’t old enough to know of her activism. A hero!
Thank you So Much for bringing Us, The Beautiful Eartha Kitt, I truly Absolutely Love Her Completely, What a Phenomenal Woman, Rest in Power Beautiful Eartha Kitt
💜
I liked her as a performer but I love the person she really was
Thank you for sharing this. Earth is an amazing, strong woman.
Couldn't agree more!
I’m glad she found happiness and success and made such an impact on the world. Against all the odds.
Heard several stories and docs about Eartha , but this one touched my soul ! What an amazing story !!! I am more in awe of Eartha Kitt’s legacy .
Wonderful!
I love this one! Eartha has long been one of my favorite stars, but I had no idea how amazing she really was. She was a brilliant, powerful, delightful, loving, strong woman . . . admirable in so many ways. The truest definition of beautiful. Thank you very much for your work.
Beautifully told and inspiring story. What a lovely human being she was.
Fantastic tribute to such an incredible human being. ❤️🙏🏻
💜 She is a true survivor, talented and amazing 💜
😺👍
She is and always will be a complete legend. A wonderful person. Thank you.
Thank you so much for making this video! Eartha was an amazing woman and talent - she was also my favorite catwoman. Love your channel.
Amazing! Truly inspiring. Beautiful story.

I always liked & loved Seth's I go back to the song Santa baby , that's when it started for me 😍 . May she R. I. P.
In the UK, it's impossible to go into any shops leading up to Christmas without hearing Santa Baby in with the other Christmas regulars.

I remember as a child watching her on TV and never knew much about her till now. What a fascinating woman and a great example of TRIUMPH over so many trials and tribulations. She definitely is an inspiration to all!!! THANK FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!
