One of the pleasures of gardening is sharing. I love how Pamela contacted you and shared her Irises. One of my garden beds is designated as a friendship garden - a variety of plants from friends. I smile each time I see the plants and think of the friends who shared.

So true! In my Midwest garden (5b), I also have a large Friendship Garden bed. All of the perennials are gifts from the gardens of sweet friends. Irises are a very special part of my Friendship Garden, too! Janey, it will feel so heartwarming each time you pass by your new Iris garden as you come and go! Thank you so much for introducing us to Pamela. It will be such fun to follow Flower Patch Farmhouse!🍃🌸🍃

I love irises! In fact, I walked down the aisle with a bouquet of blue irises. I didn't want the conventional white bouquet. Years ago I had tons of irises and when it was time to divide them I shared them with a friend so she could line her garden walkway with them for her daughters wedding. It looked beautiful. Now I don't have many irises because the gophers are eating them. Luckily, she has so many that she was to divide them and she'll give them back to me. I'll be planting them in gopher cages (which I hate the look of) but I'll have my irises again.

How generous of Pamela to share her irises and knowledge! I’m thinking of planting some now that I know they’re easy to grow. I’ll be planting tulips and daffodils for the first time, and I read it’s good to add bone meal to the hole when planting tulips. But now that Pamela said it attracts ground squirrels, I’m not sure what to do. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I too live in the country with ground squirrels & rabbits.

Pamela is great!! Real, deal gardener! Glad she mentioned Schreiners--my first irises came from them. Any irises hybridized by Joe Ghio (from Santa Cruz) are great, too.
What a beautiful spot for the irises--wow, what a great display you'll have next year!
I have a few new irises to plant in my San Francisco garden--backs exposed! Planting "Florentine Silk", "Best Bet", "Jurassic Park", "Skyfire", "Victoria Falls", and "Concertina". I have sandy loam, and they love it.
Janey, I bet you can hardly wait for your garden to start growing!

Such a nice thing to do, I think we gardeners just can't help ourselves. I have iris my mom planted in the late 80's, the tree by them has grown and put too much shade on them. I have one that smells like grape juice. I'm removing branches to open it up, they did so well there, I hate to move them from where mom wanted them.

I just revamped one of my garden beds in my backyard, ,and I had to move my iris'. I moved them to the front curtain of my yard (between the street and the sidewalk). I transplanted about 20. I thought I would have room for more flowers to plant up there, but because I have so many iris', I don't have to plant anything else.

I like that front garden bed. You haven't shared what you're thinking of doing there, but I like the suggestion of an arbor over the benches and painting it all to match the fence.
I figure why remove something if it can be tweaked to be beautiful, and useful, and save some money in the process? (The boulders just need to be lowered into the ground a little, so they look like they belong there.) What are the plants you left alone? Maybe lavender? Can't see well enough to tell.
Looking forward to seeing all your irises bloom and all those bulbs you bought! Spring in your garden will be magnificent!

That will be a beautiful addition to your garden! Can't wait to see updates once they get started. I used to have purple bearded iris.....variety unknown since they were here when I moved in. I ended up removing them because they kept falling over. I tried thinning them, but they just all seemed weak and since I'm no expert I didn't know how to fix it. I did keep all the dwarf iris on this property. They are also purple and I absolutely love them! They stay upright and when blooms are done, they leave behind some beautiful spiky foliage that looks great growing beneath my native wisteria/trellis.

Half way through watching this I ordered the Hoedag from Duluth. Just what I needed as similar tools broke because the metal was too thin. So, thanks for that. On the other hand, I have gotten rid of a lot of my Irises because they fall over from wind and rain when they bloom. I have two unknown varieties that hold up pretty well to the elements. A lot of Iris suppliers don't give you a lot of info regarding their height or sturdiness. Top heavy blooms tend to fall over, at least for me in Northern NJ. They are all very easy to grow but they do need to be divided periodically but I need better performers for all that work.

What a beautiful display it will be! Evan before and after the blooms the leaves will be lovely. Thank you, Pam!

My favorite flower. The colors are magnificent in late May for me.

Love bearded irises, and what a gift from Pamela. If you kept them planted there, they would look great with the stone edging you have planned. I couldn't help but wonder if you recommended the Hose Link to her. Very much looking forward to seeing the iris progress next season.

I live in Salem Oregon, so it was nice to have the reference to Schreiner’s Iris Gardens. They have a beautiful display garden each year and I have several of their plants in my garden. Pamela’s generous contribution will make for a beautiful addition to your space.

Someone else mentioned Schreiner's so I was familiar with their website. Good to know not to get my hopes up if a variety claims to rebloom. I live in Minnesota. Fat chance for mine to rebloom.

It’s my first year planting irises, just got them in the ground three days ago! I can’t wait to see them grow.

I will go to Pamela's channel because I'm not a fan of bearded iris. Maybe her garden will change my mind.
I learned so much in this video.
Great timing of your video. I have huge clumps of non-blooming Siberian iris to move. I'll employ her tip about making a circle to get the best display next year.
I noticed you didn't use any starter fertilizer (Espoma Bio-tone). Perhaps because of the lateness of the season?
I plan to relocate mine at the base of a group of 'Blue Fortune' hyssop and 'Gladiator' bulbs behind all so the succession of growth hides the dying foliage of the other.
I've pruned my iris foliage twice. It just keeps growing. 😊
