    I think people underestimate the time and money required to successfully breed, raise and sell just one spawn of Bettas. It's a lot of time and work, so well done to you.

    Thanks for this. That was really informative. You touted yourself in an earlier video as not being a pro betta breeder, but realistically, how many people actually do this? Sure, you were really young back then and you still are, but don't sell yourself short. Just because you're only 20, you've taken the initiative to learn how to breed many types of fish. Koodos for your passion in showing the world how to successfully do this, and keep it up, cause you are a pro! I will keep following your hard work, Justin.

    In the 1970s when I was in the States there were none of these koi bettas or blue berries.
    There were red, blue and pink in solid colors or with nuances in blends. There appeared the cellophane betta. But I only saw it in a magazine.
    I liked those better than the ones today with all the blotches.
    I imagine that the older strains were hardier.
    Much success and satisfaction to you!

    The points you touched in the end I thought of being the biggest expense in my mind you didn't even account for. All the shipping supplies, petrol to and from wholesalers, and even more time. I've thought about breeding Bettas myself just as a project and not for profit at all and always stop short because that's a lot of fry and jars I'd have to take care of till I did sell everything

    That was a really cool breakdown! I’m actually having my first shot breeding bettas today. Not expecting many fry if I do succeed because the female got so full with eggs earlier in the week that she ended up dropping a couple hundred. But that’s alright, makes it easier for me to handle first time through. Found your initial betta breeding video to be very helpful, and I used that to build on for creating my setup. Thanks a heap mate!

      @@KeepingFishSimple Could I ask your opinion on something to do with the above message?
      So they haven't spawned yet, male is super intent on expanding his bubble nest into a million dollar bubble-mansion, and while he will happily flare at the female, every time she gets close to the nest he starts chasing her away. It's not aggressive, because he doesn't go after her once he's chased her away from his nest, but I don't know how they'll breed if he doesn't let her come over to the nest. Have you seen this before? Should I keep trying to spawn, or restart the process and recondition the fish? TIA :)

    And factor in getting the parents ready for breeding. That can add up to a lot of food after a while depending on how many pairs you are conditioning. Have you ever tried setting up a harem style breeder for betta with one male and multiple female betta?

    Love this! When you say a couple of hundred for 4ft tanks, is that total or each? Wholesale or retail? Can’t seem to find them that cheap so I’d really appreciate the help.
    And what price range did you sell them to fish stores or wholesalers for? You didn’t say how many bettas you had. A guesstimate: $10 for lower grade (retail $30) to $20 for higher grade (retail $60)?

    I love your honesty! I have no clue, so I ask: why do you use the small cups for the Bettas? can they live for a long period of time in the small cups? Newcomers always get the minimum "1cm fish per liter."

    • @Bobby11
      @Bobby11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cups are not ideal, and KFS tries to keep them in cups for as little time as possible. If you change water regularly, yes they can live a long time in a cup however its also not a great life for a fish. The problem is they fight and its better for them to be in cups short term than in a larger tank being stressed and fighting.

    • @ArtyMars
      @ArtyMars 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bettas have an advantage of being able to "breathe air" from the surface with a specialised "lung-gill" combo that means a small volume of water won't mean they can't breath, but give them more space if you can, let them get around a bit :D

      It is a tricky one, but in this case i dont see a problem asking. It is this kind of information that people need if they are considering breeding fish for profit. I am not sure why people are so confidential with how much they make. Total income maybe. but for specific things, i dont see a problem :) Anyway its good that some people are willing to share more information.

    An easier way to rear them from the cupping stage is to burn small holes in the jars and place them in a shallow tank. Quick water changes, by draining main tank then topping up. Let females swim amongst them. Pour in some daphnia which would swim in and out of the males cups. Also the benefit of stable water and almond leaves (plus any medication if needed) in the main water.
    When ready for sale, place in fresh cups and away they go.

I plan on getting koi bettas one day. I bought a 3 tier clear plastic drawer and it works perfect to hold the bettas. With 2 gallons of water it’s about 5 inches deep. So now I can have 3 pair of betta. I’m still trying to figure out the cup system though.

    I commented this in an earlier vid, but I don’t believe you would’ve seen it. Orange Laser Corys like to lay their eggs on broad leafed plants, so adding something like an Anubis would probably help.

    I think im just going to hop into this as a hobby like I don’t even care about the money really I just want to breed some cool fish since you get to be selective with the two fish you want to breed and maybe I’ll get some cool ones out of it It’s kinda like that dragon city game where you breed different monsters or something

    Nice video buddy. Have you ever considered doing a outdoor breeding project in tubs or small ponds? Theres all different species that can be done in summer !!
