  • While never winning a gold medal, the Nighthawks went down in history as one of the most legendary barbershop quartets of all-time. After winning silver at the 1963 International Convention in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Nighthawks busted out "The Auctioneer" for the capacity crowd.

The velocity that they can do this is simply crazy! Yet each chord is so solid, you could walk home on it!
Yet another amazing quartet that never won it all, but are occasionally even more amazing than the Champs.
This song is my favorite of them all. To do this successfully is amazing. To do it at light speed with every chord locked so you can trust it is simply nuts!
I know this song so well that I can hum all four parts without missing a note. Abd have, since I was 13. I am now 65. Because they are so crisp, so clean, and just so REAL, I still can't stand it.
I love that frikken Bass! Solid as a rock. I could build a skyscraper on his voice! Yet, nimble at high speed. Crazy.
Their record is full of such wonders. Never a mistuned or shabby chord. Not one. Like the Sidewinders, they are in their own category. Noone ever sang like them. They're from Canada, so some of their song choices are weird, but always amazing.
If they are not in your Barbershop Pantheon, you have no ears.

Virtuoso genius at work. No doubt Leroy Van Dyke appreciated this magnificent interpretation of his classic single.

I'd recognize Gene Cokecroft anywhere. I knew him quite well.

Play this video at 1.25 speed and that's how fast the Bluegrass Student Union performed this song

      I don’t think it’s a joke. It’s spot on. 😂

Music at the wrong speed is bad music. This is perfect. Right on the edge, and they never drop a chord. BGSU drop half. And BGSU has poor singing technique. Very weak. I was never impressed. Given a whole stylistic generation between them, this is by far the better performance.

@@georgesoros6415 I never said one was better than the other. Just stating the simple fact the BGSU performed it at a much faster tempo.
