Lisa, thank you. Not only are you a genius makeup artist, you are a makeup historian. I appreciate the way you tie historic makeup artistry to the wider history of the time period you are portraying. It’s fascinating.
What I absolutely adore about your historical looks is that you give us a mini history lesson while you do them! I look forward to more of these types of looks!
"I bleached my eyebrows for this" Me: Daaammnnnn Full respect for that commitment! About to do a very similar look for an Opera night in Paris next weekend!
I did a Theda look a few years back. I really committed to the bit, went in full greyscale, I printed dialogue cards and refused to speak and mimed everything else! Love this, you look a bit like Siouxsie too!!
You captured it! Both the look at what was special about her. The fact that she wasn’t traditionally beautiful but she captivated people across the world and lives on as an inspiration and influence over 100 years later. It’s a shame so much of her work is lost!
I’m really enjoying these historical videos, especially this one. 15 years ago I read a book written by someone in my city (in Wisconsin, USS) about its history, and it mentioned Theda Bara (her stage name). As a young girl she and her family vacationed at a lake resort just a few miles from my home, and she’d stand at a window and wave at boys. I guess that she was destined to become an actress!
Lisa I just received my first makeup 💄 order from you, I have to say, your eyeliner pencils are absolutely FABULOUS ❤❤❤❤they glide on like ink and smudge out flawlessly and then set perfectly. Thank you for being a creative genius 💗🙌🏻🥰
It reminds me just a little of the 90s grunge look. You wanted to walk out of your house looking like you'd slept in your makeup. Dark, uneven, smudgy, thin brow. While it's different, I love that imperfect vibe
Soo funny she was cast as a vamp as I think she looks so sweet and innocent. Very ingenue! I love love love this video! I hope we get more makeup history talks / tutorials
I'm old enough to remember going to see black and white films (which we called 'going to the pictures') and was an avid reader of a filmgoers' magazine. We were informed that makeup was always done in black, including the lipstick. We were all so happy when colour films came out! Your amazing vamp costume makeup is absolutely stunning and really spot on - the best ever.
For as long as I've been watching you, since I was in high school, you're my go to youtuber for when I'm stressed. The way you speak and what you speak about is always so soothing
Lisa, you always go above and beyond, and I love it so much! Can’t imagine hosting a party and having you in this look float in! Happy Halloween and thanks!
At about 13:22 you are talking to the camera and already you are unrecognizable and goth like it confused me for a second. It's funny hoe much the eyebrows change the face.also love the bsckstory and context❤
I could listen to you talk about the history of makeup for hours, and watch you do historical makeup looks all day. ❤ Love this video-thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, Lisa!
Oh god... thank you Lisa for making this tutorial, i've been looking for it for so long. I really love silent movies and makeup from this era. I'm literally in love and going to do the makeup soon. I'm goth and the dark aesthetic screams to me very loud! I think it has the vibe.
Love this tutorial on how to do Silent Movie make up. Have always wanted to see how it was done and now we also got a history lesson as well. Yay!! You look absolutely amazing, hope it was a fabulous party and that it didn’t finish until dawn! 💃🏼🥂🍾
This was so well executed. The historical points are always so interesting. Now I’m really craving the re release of your Vega palette. It was perfect for this look.
I love all of your videos, but I mostly enjoy videos like this one. Long ago makeup and its history throughout the years is inspiring. Thank you for sharing makeup history, you are such a talented makeup artist. I might have order "Jazz" velveteen, I love the intensity of it. I ordered "Ribbon" velveteen and I love it. 💋❤
You are amazing, I swear you look Fab in every era's look . I wouldn't think a glue stick would be good for your skin but I know it's a costume and drag makeup trick .
I ADORE this look and the story behind !!! I would love to see other videos about the silent actresses who had an impact on you ! Thank you Lisa: not only you are a wonderful makeup artist but you are a brilliant storyteller too
Wow, what a transformation, you look just like her and you've transported me back to being a little girl as my Nana used to wax lyrical about going to the "pictures" to watch Theda Barra and Clara Bow - happy days. Thank you 😊
I have to let you know that I own two of your foundations 2 of your liquid highlighters 9 of your lipsticks and 4 liquid lipsticks including your eyeliner and they are the joy of my collection! I am very excited to see what you come with next! I’m ready for concealers and powders ❤🎉
I was talking myself out of doing a makeup look for a local Rocky Horror stage performance tomorrow, but you've given me so much inspiration. I actually did a 20s flapper for Halloween 2021.
Lisa, you’re so very knowledgeable & your genuine interactions with us, your audience, always keep me coming back for more!!! You are so talented & your videos & techniques are perfection…they always seem to come around just when I really need a boost-I’m grateful for all you share with us, lovely Lisa E.❣️❣️ This vampy, more goth look is great & so very in style right now. I truly enjoyed it🖤🖤💄💄
I'm in love with the lip and lip shape - that's when I started to see Theda! Yes the eyes are iconic but I come from a goth background so messy black eyeshadow looks and thin brows are part of my memory bank😎Not to wanting to be taking away from Lisa's artistry and mastery which is always a wonderful delight to watch so much my dinner went cold.😋
I love this so much! I feel like it also reminds me of Siouxie Sioux. Who I believe got inspiration from ancient Egypt & silent films. So perhaps she did know about Theda Bara too!
your incredible artistic talent, your knowledge & enthusiasm about the make up in history makes those videos of yours truly a pure pleasure to watch! ❤❤❤
I totally can't believe you bleached your brows for one event, ha. That is dedication and commitment to the cause. That look makes your eye colour pop! Love to Ted ❤
Thanks for your tutorial, with a bit of history added. I didn't know about this actress, I'd heard of Mary Pickford, but not this lady. I love hearing about the lesser know people in history. I never cease to be amazed at your knowledge and expertise ❤
Wow, this was amazing 🎉 I loved listening to the story while seeing Lisa Eldridge go 100 years back in time. You came out like a totally different person! This look suits you!
The less polished makeup look from the silent films may have been the result of actors sweating under the lighting working long hours. I enjoy your videos. Relaxing as well as informative. Thanks, Lisa✨
The blocked-out brows remind me of Kevyn Aucoin’s Making Faces book! I got my hands on it back in high school and was completely obsessed, but never had the nerve to try the different looks because I was scared to do the brows 😅
Thank you, that was so very good to watch. Re Helena Rubenstein - I wore her Kajal in the sixties, even early seventies. It had a thick, yet creamy consistency, came in a small tin and was applied with a rubber hoof shaped applicator along the lower water line - then it promptly transferred to the upper water line also. It did have a semi shine to it, not too glaringly bright, but certainly not matte. I cannot really remember its staying power, but it was what was considered reasonable.
Lisa, thank you. Not only are you a genius makeup artist, you are a makeup historian. I appreciate the way you tie historic makeup artistry to the wider history of the time period you are portraying. It’s fascinating.
I love it ❤
What I absolutely adore about your historical looks is that you give us a mini history lesson while you do them! I look forward to more of these types of looks!
🖤🖤🖤
Bleached eyebrows! That’s a costume commitment. Fantastic, Lisa! ❤ 💄
Haha! 😂❤
I was coming here to make that very same comment!
Yes so brave. Hoping eyebrows recover ok
"I bleached my eyebrows for this"
Me: Daaammnnnn
Full respect for that commitment!
About to do a very similar look for an Opera night in Paris next weekend!
I did a Theda look a few years back. I really committed to the bit, went in full greyscale, I printed dialogue cards and refused to speak and mimed everything else! Love this, you look a bit like Siouxsie too!!
This year I plan on going as Mrs. McCormick from Banshees of Inisherin!
Loving your level of commitment! xx
That smoky black eye makeup and the black wig change the colour of your eye so much!! Stunning as usual! Love love love!
The transformation is amazing! What a lesson on artistry. You look stunning!
Thank you 😘😘😘😘

Ahh I love this story 🖤
My two greatest loves; makeup and silent movie stars! Thank you so much for this, Lisa! You really nailed this!
Thank you 😊xxx
This is probably the best costume for Halloween I've ever seen. Well done Lisa. As always ❣ Theda Bara was a real icon 💫
❤❤
I’m dying to see a collab between you and Erin Parsons!❤
Lisa I just received my first makeup 💄 order from you, I have to say, your eyeliner pencils are absolutely FABULOUS ❤❤❤❤they glide on like ink and smudge out flawlessly and then set perfectly. Thank you for being a creative genius 💗🙌🏻🥰

Green forest does not set :(
Well said 👍 I couldn't have put it better myself
It reminds me just a little of the 90s grunge look. You wanted to walk out of your house looking like you'd slept in your makeup. Dark, uneven, smudgy, thin brow. While it's different, I love that imperfect vibe
Stunning

You must try! Hope It goes well!!

The headdress is incredible!
Masterful. I like how you said "human" because it truly is what makes someone most beautiful. I love this costume look!
Wow, such amazing artistry. I enjoy hearing the history behind the looks, too - for both vintage and modern! The makeup made your eyes look amazing.
Never been this early to one of your videos! 2 Minutes in and I already love it!
Thank you : )
The eye look is amazing on you, the cool tone it enhances in your eyes is beautiful!
Remember to watch the entire commercial. Lisa has previously donated the money to charity. My favorite make up artist and human❤.
Incredible eyes, so magnetic
The tale is as fascinating as the cosmetic application. Thank you. This is “fantastic” in the literal sense of the world.
so glad you enjoyed it 😘xx
OH MY GOD I was having such a stressful day and this cheered me up so much ❤ I love this kind of look for Halloween thank you so much for uploading

oh I have not seen your videos for few years now and forgot how inspiring and relaxing they are
Seeing this, I'm thinking of the roaring 20's Louise Brooks, stunner she was! Wonderful video Lisa!
I loooooove me some Theda! She was so fabulous and had that mystique about her. What an icon!
So fabulous 😍
This was so well executed. The historical points are always so interesting. Now I’m really craving the re release of your Vega palette. It was perfect for this look.

Stunning eyes! Darker hair really brings out the natural color of your irises. And that cute lipstick earring...! Fabulous make up as always.

Absolutely fantastic Lisa! This IS your look! Love love the eye look.☠️
So cool. I’ve been thinking about the Theda Bara look since the Egyptian eye video you did.
Thank you, that was so very good to watch.
