Call a chimney sweep or saturate 4 towels with cleaner. Attach each one to a mop pole. Scrub one side per towel as far down as you can and then drop it. Repeat on each floor. Let dry. Repeat again if the odor is still there. Use a small fan at the top of the shoot once clean to bone dry.

This is a great idea. I thought about the pole, but wasn’t sure you could actually fit it into the laundry chute. The one I had at my house when I was a little kid we couldn’t stick a stick down there I would propel a child lol just kidding. I laughed so hard! You mentioned in the intro that you were going to address the question of why Temu is so cheap, but you never got around to it. There are many reports from journalists who have visited their production facilities and believe that forced labor is used. Also customer service is supposedly awful. There has to be some reason why it’s so cheap and before featuring it in your popular channel, I think it would behoove you to do a little due diligence to explain prices that are too cheap for/any free market production, even in countries where labor is much cheaper than here.

I tried to buy a necklace from an etsy seller in France, and I asked her to make a minor change to it before sending, she made some excuse about it, couldn't change it. Later I found the exact same necklaces on temu for less than $2. On etsy, it was $49. The packaging was the same. The quality was the same. It was a 5 star shop that has been operating for several years. But it was an absolute rip off. Those things weren't hand made in France. Not even a little. Temu isn't necessarily the Villan.

Dear Cas, I just listened to your podcast where you talked about getting rid of all the Chinese junk from the house. And then I saw this video here. Temu uses gamification tools in their app to entice customers to make impulse purchases. Temu uses aggressive marketing techniques, regardless of whether they are legal in the respective country. If it's for free (or super cheap) probably you'r the product. Temu collects all your data and MUST give it to the Chinese government if they request it because it is a Chinese company. Other TH-camrs have made videos about how much Temu offered them for hauls. That's insane. I don't even want to start talking about the conditions in the Chinese labor camps, the environmental pollution, etc.
How does all of this fit together with what you say in your videos and podcast? About being conscious of your purchases and possessions? NOT to shop indiscriminately and blindly in order to fill your house with crap? Sure, a lot of the things in our stores are produced in China, I'm not criticizing globalization per se. But Temu only fuels everything that is wrong in this world and no one should actively support that.

Bonus, most cities will have a no-buy group! Free stuff! Goodwill and similar can be reallllly hit or miss, but true consignment stores will have much nicer secondhand things that are still priced much less than new. BUT on the flipside, the number of people screaming "it's Chinese so it is always 100% evil and bad, support American made!!" are... I imagine Republican (US right-wing political party) and would support something like My Pillow (a different company with deceptive marketing practices (and other things worth complaining about), except it's American and also run by someone who's very loudly Republican) unquestioningly.

By buying more you ADD to your clutter unless you purge. Most people don't because as you know they see the money they've spent and can't bring themselves to get rid of it.

I think Cass has received the message. She recently bought a house, dealt with several disasters involving said house, Orangize HQ, and the Take Your House Back course. That's not counting her family life. Sometimes when we have to make decisions quickly, we made a decision we would not have made had we known more. One of the things I love about Cass is she is real. Be interesting to see how the linen organisation works out when you start using it. It looks good for storing rarely used items but I imagine it will be annoying when it’s stuff you use regularly…. Getting sheets out of a zipped up bag and then getting pillow cases out of a box (with a lid) would be a recipe for disaster for me! I made a comment under your last video (refreshing a home with little money) that „dirt cheap“ products are cheap for a reason - externalized social and environmental costs. You often promote these products without saying that people who can afford it (and yes, you certainly belong to them) should make more responsible choices. This video shows that it certainly was not an unfortunate exception or lack of knowledge. There are comments about it but you still promote even Temu? As someone who criticizes that we’re accumulating more stuff than we will ever need? That’s Temus core goal: Sell cheap stuff that you don’t need and that will go to the trash within weeks to make place for more trash. Sorry, I love your organization system, but I am out.

Temu relies on TH-camr's need for sponsors and have been using that to get their business looking good after their parent company had many violations and issues. Temu expects creators to be so excited about a sponsorship that they don't look into the company. They are making creators look bad while making their company look good. And as others have said, since it's China they don't worry about patents or who created a thing, they just pull stuff from people's websites and start making copies to sell.

The guitar capo I ordered broke in my hand after about a month, and this was my weak hand I broke a couple of years ago, compared to my older capoes that have lasted 15 to 20 years. Cas, do you have an extension mop? Melissa Maker has an amazing one. Maybe you can use it with microfiber cloths to "mop" the walls of the laundry cute from the top then the bottom. Try some cleaning mixture first, then a "disinfectant" with hydrogen peroxide followed by an alcohol mixture? I wouldn't use anything scented because it might mask the odor of anything left and you want to be sure there's nothing hanging around. Oh, and have your daughter help!! Might be a great lesson for the family on what NOT to put in the chute. Good luck!!

Oh Cass, I’m so disappointed with you promoting Temu. Not that long ago you were encouraging your subscribers to check out the thrift stores for great clothes and to not waste money on fast fashion. Multinational companies like Temu are egregious in their exploitation of their workers-mostly women-and are responsible for something like 10% of the world’s carbon emissions. Stores like Walmart and Dollar Tree have historically used exploited labor and contributed heedlessly to the climate crisis, but they are a now trying (maybe too little too late) to be accountable for the human rights violations and environmental impact of the manufacture of these cheap, cheap products we all keep buying. I believe most of us are now educated enough to take some responsibility for these problems and try to shop at retailers who are at least trying to do the right thing. We still love you! ❤

("I like it, it's mine, the prices blow my mind" in the middle of my minimalism and decluttering videos 😕) I wish you could block advertisers and not only specific ads on TH-cam.

Will your spray mop fit? Mop as far as you can reach up and down on each floor? Probably need multiple passes. Just a thought. ❤

As much as I want to support a video that is sponsored for one of my favorite Organizers…. I cannot support Temu. I refuse to touch it because of their association with the Chinese govt. I really wish Amazon would have a “made in the USA filter” bc sometimes they are not any better!

It’s a marketplace with thousands of different sellers, just like Amazon. I’ve purchased things from sellers here in the US. I’ve dealt with their customer service and was 100% satisfied. Those are facts I know and not just my own opinion.

@@jlow27 The problem with Temu is that it is unfair to vendors, rumours of selling data to cover shipping losses. while shipping from China avoids health and safety regulations our government demands of local manufacturers in their products: eg- high risk chemical dyes in towels and clothing. All of this can be found on the interwebs with a bit of research. Remember-if an item is priced cheaply- there is a cost to someone, even if it isn't you.

@@jlow27 not like Amazon, prices are so cheap because each package coming is valued under $800 and therefore is not paying any taxes or tariffs. Is using a loophole in our system. That causes trade deficits and fuels inflation

My boyfriend suggests you make a plug of some old towels or sheets and you pull or push them through the shoot one way or the other. Think chimney sweep.
I was thinking if you could get an extension pole for a swiffer Mop you could do the sides from the top and the bottom.

Sorry Cas, I will not be watching this video. I have been following you for years- but this is an unethical business. There are some great TH-camrs who have called out TEMU's business practices, and I think that you might want to vet them further, if you are going to collab/sponsor with them again.

.. For the laundry shoot . . Grab a couple of spin mop replacement cotton mop heads and an extendable pole, you'll need several.... make *sure* nothing is in the shoot *anywhere* and then use a decent amount of hot water, dawn soap and bleach. It may take several passes to remove all of the remnants . the other alternative is to use a chimney sweep modified with a soft cleaning head to do the job. Share with us what you try and if it works....

Put a big bucket at the bottom of the shoot and spray a hose in it or use the window washing thing you have if it's long enough.

I had one of those mini food sealers 15 or 20 years ago. It didn't last long before it broke. I was surprised to see them back out again. I don't shop Temu, and very little from Amazon. I'm on my son's. He builds and repairs
computer type stuff, so he orders parts and tolls that's specialized along those lines. I really don't like ordering much of anything. I'm really specific, and buy as needs arise. I don't redecorate or redo things much at all. I get what I like and I stick with it. So...I'm sure my house looks outdated to the modern generation. I'm in my 50's and I just feel the need to be settled. Changing all the time takes effort I'm not willing to invest, lol. Clean and done for me. I do reorganize to keep my house functioning. So from time to time I need new organizing containers for a new project. I enjoy watching all of your organizing videos.
