I was always under the impression that the Queen Mother and Lady Formoy were the ones who orchestrated the marriage between their grandchildren. It was arranged and promoted without any consideration to the well being of either Charles or Diana. And sadly, neither one understanding the emotional drain "doing their duty" to marry would have on them both. That marriage was never going to end well. It was nothing more than (even for those times) an archaic and outmoded arranged marriage. So very sad and tragic.

Charles knew in his heart it was an arranged marriage. Unfortunately, 19 Yr old, romantic Diana truly loved him. Charles couldn't fake it. And here we are.

Diana's drama was a result of what she was put through and ignored... even her bulimia started after Charles told her...her waist was full... she just wanted to please him.
I wonder if you were the wife...how much you would have thought...she's proven to be worthy to be queen!! People have short memories or weren't even born....they don't remember the humiliations they put Diana through! 😢 of course she reacted....you'd be inhuman not to do so.

@@BBBGGG9647 Hindsight is a terrible thing. In my country we have a saying 'regret always comes too late' and naturally I think if they knew then what everybody knows now, things would have been different. I was one of the people that felt angry after Diana's death. But you have to look at it from all sides. I am sure Charles tried to make it work but all he was dong was prolonging the inevitable. The stress of the life also got to Diana, which would not have helped any where her bulimia was concerned and of coarse knowing that her husband loved someone else too. Camilla met and loved Charles first. I am not condoning their actions at the time but does anybody honestly expect them live the rest of their lives unhappy?

I think Charles did love Diana or tried to but they were not a match. She loved him as a nineteen year old girl. At the time of her death they were coparenting brilliantly. So if she had of lived , I like to imagine that she would have found true love and be happily married and of course at the King s Coronation:)

I remember setting my alarm clock for 5:00AM to watch this wedding. Princess Diana's dress was really over-the-top and has not really aged well. In contrast, Grace Kelly's and Catherine Middleton's wedding dresses are classic, and they are still quite fashionable today. It's so painful to watch the wedding now that we know what was happening behind the scenes. But, for everything there is a season, and this marriage produced a wonderful heir to the throne. Rest in peace, Diana, in the knowledge that your son will someday be a dutiful and beloved King.

There is more to Charles & Diana than their tragic marriage, Di should be remembered for her philanthropy and her compassion towards people, a platform she gained through marriage, Charles on the other hand for his work with the Prince's Trust. They both made mistakes but that didn't define who they were as people. Lastly no one can love Diana more than her two sons who actually spent time her. Don't denigrate to a hurt human being because that was only part of the story, she was courageous and diligent she is more that what people and the media make her out to be.

There is a big difference between falling in love and having a long, happy marriage.
Times really were different then - if Charles had been able to marry someone nearer his own age the tabloids would have picked her past life apart.
If you look back on here there is an ITN interview from a few days before the wedding and it is Diana who looks disengaged and Charles who is trying to be enthusiastic.
I think there was something there, but they didn’t know each other very well. They shared no interest.
But they had two sons who were clearly loved.
The rest, as they say, is history.

The Queen and Prince Philip knew Charles didn’t love her and they didn’t care. Diana was the innocent….Camilla and Charles never intended to be apart.
I still to this day cry when I see things pertaining to this wedding. She was an extraordinary human being who loved her husband. He hated her because he saw her as the obstacle between Camilla and his happiness.

From everything I observed--Princess Diana actually loved charles, but he NEVER even liked her! Her only purpose, as far as he and camilla were concerned, was to function as a broodmare and then to stay out of sight, always in the background and always silent- so they could maintain their adulterous affair. OMG the two of them were only a few years shy of being twice Princess Diana’s age. I cannot fault Princess Diana for looking for love wherever she could find it, because of the abysmal way she was used. This is my opinion based upon from everything I have read, observed, and learned since they met. I lost all respect for him and still cannot have a single positive feeling for either him or his mistress.

Do you think he started disliking her when she started getting so much attention in the press or did he dislike her because she was so young and they had nothing in common to talk about. Usually older women are fearful their husband will take up with a younger woman, it was so baffling but then again my ex husband reminds me of Charles. I'm a former high fashion model, I looked regal like Diana when I was young and tall, slim and blonde like her when I was young.

I didn’t buy into the whole fairy tale rubbish. The public wanted their dreams and fantasies fulfilled, putting enormous pressure on the couple who couldn’t possibly live up to their expectations. Frankly I always thought they were doomed from the beginning, they had absolutely nothing in common. Diana loved the city and parties, Charles loved the country and country pursuits. Diana needed attention 24/7, Charles had enormous responsibilities that he couldn’t neglect. Diana read romances, Charles philosophy and theology. Absolutely nothing in common. In every marriage there comes a time you actually have to talk to one another. They had nothing to talk about. Really, you shouldn’t blame either of them, they were just incompatible. Charles needed a strong woman to support him. He has that in Queen Camilla. Diana wanted someone to worship at her feet. Unfortunately she did not have her needs fulfilled.

@@ladymary22 It was an aristocratic/royal arranged marriage and the Spencers were as involved in setting it up as the Royals were. Charles and Diana were caught in the middle of it. But Diana would have known the score going in, she was an aristocrat and knew what she was getting into..She may have been emotionally incapable of making a good choice when dazzled with the idea of one day becoming Queen, but her family did nothing to dissuade her. I think people need to stop romanticising relationship between Charles and Camilla. She was a pro in the bedroom department, swinging from a chandelier etc. Diana had no such experience and it wasn’t interesting enough for Charles. He also had other women at the same time including an Australian he nicknamed Kanga. Camilla hated her guts as she was a competitor. In reality Charles needed a “mummy” not a wife, as I believe he’s an emotionally weak man.
