If you gonna buy a new mqc laptop, i would advise anyone to add more money and buy a 16gb or more so that you are ok in the coming years to use your mac fluidly.

The amount of ram needed for programs and OSs only ever goes up. If you’re going to choose between ram and storage, always choose ram. External storage works great if needed.

I agree that 8GB of RAM is enough for basic tasks like Essays or browsing the web and will also work out for a bit of coding.
However, I don‘t think 8GB is enough for future proving yourself and especially at that price point. It‘s completely frustrating to see that high priced laptops like the Macbook Air and Pro getting 8GB of RAM. It‘s good that the M4 will probably have 16GB for the base model.
From personal experience (coding), 8GB might be enough for now but as soon as you do more intense coding it‘s going to reduce your productivity and do a lot of swapping - harming your SSD. I think 200$ more for 16GB of RAM really hurts but is still completely worth it. I‘d rather suggest getting an older M series MacBook with more RAM than a newer one with only 8GB.
