    Tsuki, great research on this, I did not know there were so many bear subspecies. I have to mention for those who do not know, Corporal Wojtek a Syrian brown bear who was rescued by polish soldiers and served in WWII, Read about him, it shows the incredible intelligence of these animals even though they should live a normal life of a bear.

    • @TsukiCove
      @TsukiCove  ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Another great story about the Syrian bear was hidden in this video, the Syrian bear release that i showed images of in the video didn't go to plan and the panicked bears started charging the rescuers and press before eventually fleeing.

    Really fascinating how so many subspecies have so much overlapping ranges like the 3 subspecies of Far East Russia, the Himalayan and Tibetan bears and the 3 subspecies found in Alaska.

    • @TsukiCove
      @TsukiCove  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah that's why it's quite complicated because some don't view certain subspecies as subspecies and the number of subspecies depends on which expert you ask

    Ussuri brown bears are even found in Korea, though just in the northern parts of the DPRK, including Chagang Province and the Hamgyong Mountains. Ursaluna from Pokémon Legends: Arceus and the Teal Mask DLC of Scarlet & Violet is based off the Ussuri brown bear. Ussuri brown bears are native to Hokkaido, which is the region Sinnoh/Hisui is based off of. Ursaluna is Ground/Normal, and it being Ground-type is in reference to Kim-un-kamuy, the Ainu god of bears and mountains and the fact that Ussuri brown bears mostly live inside burrows excavated into hillsides. Ursaluna's affinity with peat was inspired by the real distribution of Ussuri brown bears around former coal mines.
    The Ainu are the indigenous of Hokkaido, and bears are prevalent in Ainu mythology. The Ainu used to do a ritual where they'd keep a cub and treat it well for a year until they'd kill it during a ceremony and eat it to free its spirit so when it reached Kim-un-kamuy, it would tell of the humans' piety in gratitude for this service.

    Forget Panda, protect the Gobi bear! It’s a vegetarian but doesn't just eat one thing, so it’s a step up in the coolness scale of bears.

      I think china only really cares about pandas because its their national animal. If it where not. They be grinding those animals up and dry it it and eat it for medicinal purposes into nothing by now.

      Should we forget panda?

    • @Sienisota
      @Sienisota ปีที่แล้ว

      @waltuh12 Panda is an evolutionary dead end. It eats only one thing, doesn't mate easily, and accidentally crushes its babies. If humans all disappeared right this second, Panda would go extinct, even it every cage with a Panda on it was open.
      I have nothing personal against Panda. But the level of effort and funding it has had, and it still can't make it on its own. There are other, now extinct species that, had they received a tiny fraction of funding and manpower that Panda has? Those species would still exist.
      I simply think that we could save more species if we distributed all those resources elsewhere.

    Ussuri Brown Bears are the only Brown Bear subspecies that I fear most! They never seemed to lose their aggressive traits after living in the same habitat with Siberian Tigers for roughly over one million years! So naturally, they have to be very aggressive in order to survive a tiger attack. They're more of a search-and-destroy type bear subspecies than just a forager. Definitely not the type of bear you wanna cross paths with while trekking on foot. There have been numerous unprovoked attacks In Iwate Japan alone.

    There are also Polar Bears present, in the Summer.

    as a bolivian I've been told stories of two different spectacled bear populations, the ones closer to the andean mountains are smaller and eat more vegetation, while the ones more to the east, closer to the rainforest, are bigger and get killed more often, because people fear for their cattle. I wonder if they could eventually become subspecies, or even if they are already
