XV250 No headlight good bulb fix.

if your headlight on your xv250 virago 250/v star 250 won't turn on and you know your bulb is good this could be your problem
The starter switch opens the headlight circuit when pressed in. this gives the starter motor more voltage to crank with. the problem is that all the voltage for the headlight is also sent through the starter switch and it relies entirely on a small strip of copper sliding on some tiny contacts. these contacts get worn out and fouled over time.
I was easily able to pull the switch apart. I polished the contacts with 0000 steel wool and greased the pivots and sliding parts. now the switch is nice and clicky again and my headlight is rock solid.

I didn't have to replace the switch. Once it is out of the switch box you can pry 2 tabs on either side and the whole switch comes apart. BE CAREFUL since there is a spring and ball detent inside
Polish the copper contacts with steel wool and grease the sliding parts and it should be good to go!

Excellent! It's such a specific problem so I wasn't sure the video would be very useful. I'm happy to hear it helped at least one person.
As a side note I was able to disassemble the switch and polish the contacts with 0000 steel wool. Haven't had a problem 3 months later. No switch replacement necessary

on my sr250 I found the ground was bad behind the head light, problem fixed. Now I'm just working on the ignition I have spark sometimes and sometimes I don't so I'm replacing the CDI box and ignition coil in a last ditch effort to say fudge it.
