"at the ripe old age of 25" is a great time to be dressing like this, honestly. I still dress alt at the age of 40 and in the South, and yes I wear it to the Walmart, because I enjoy being the most interesting thing someone's going to see all day 🤘😎

I thought it was understood that you can wear LITERALLY ANYTHING to the Wal-Mart. If people can show up in jammies they've worn for a week, you can definitely show up dressed like a vampire. Or a full-on clown, for that matter.
Then again, I will wear any dang weird thing to the grocery store, and people seem to like it. I also recently won a costume contest by being literally the only one who showed up in costume. 😂

  • @aatashiwadoremi
    @aatashiwadoremi ปีที่แล้ว +79

Things that stuck out to me (in a list so I can reference it again later):
    - Layering necklaces
    - Sticking to a color scheme
    - Looking for the right silhouettes, but in more summer appropriate cuts
    - Layering, but with light, flowy, flouncy pieces
    - Texture contrast is key
    - Bring in drama with makeup (helps so you can keep everything in the outfit lighter in texture, but still look vampy)
    - Accessories elevate an outfit from plain to dramatic
    - Velvet is still summer appropriate if you’re careful
That’s all I could think of

Second-hand 100% cotton sheets & duvet covers are a heroic source of material for making those larger items! 🥰 If your opshop has enough that people who genuinely need affordable bedding can still get what they need, I highly recommend going wild in that space and saving much $$! I've bought scads of lacey crocheted & tatted doilies from op shops for deconstructing & using in adding lace trims, too... 😋

Definitely this! I strongly encourage everybody to go for cotton & linen where you can find it, breathes way better than synthetics, doesn't get as smelly when sweaty, and wicks moisture away from the skin for cooling effect.
Does mean you'll probably have to concede to having an iron & using one, as natural fabrics wrinkle far more, but I reckon that's a small price to pay for a major reduction in swamp pits! 😅

I'm not sure how much time you have (or if you have a sewing machine) but Paperstxrs and Kiana Bonollo have some really good tips for machine sewing and Micharah Tewers is also really good for learning how to sew things in a more ~winging it~ kind of way. If you have a base dress, hand sewing may actually be easier depending on how much time you have. You could also maybe cut the pieces off later to reuse the dress! In a pinch, there's also always hot glue. Definitely the craft goblin way of doing things, but if you plan on reusing the costume a lot it's not the worst option. You can even do repairs with more hot glue ✨It's also a beginner-friendly method. Just be sure to store it in a cool place so it doesn't melt 😅
I would need to know more about the project to give more concrete advice, but I hope this helps! Also feel free to dm me on Instagram if you have more questions.

I do love that you included so many example pictures that actually included plus size and black creators. So many use pale white people as a baseline and it's great to see that subverted here.

Very much concur! Research indicates the various social media algorithms tend to push those supposed defaults pretty hard too? So anybody shoving back against that and mindfully incorporating diversity in their reference materials is aces in my book!! 👌

*Always thrift responsibly and consciously. Obviously we should all be conscious about where and how our clothes our made, but we also cannot forget how our actions affect our environment in other ways.
Thrifting has certainly become a trend, but there are still plenty of people use thrift stores as their first choice because they cant afford anything else. And they’re not just buying things for themselves or to resell at ridiculous prices, theyre buying for their entire family/children. Thrifting too often affects accessibility, prices and quality of the clothing bc when people w more than enough money consistently go to spend 300, prices spike so the next time, you may be paying 350 and if THRIFT STORES are that expensive, people who DEPEND on them are left to the winds. And when you take the “good stuff” all thats left are the shein, temu, romwe that no one wants.
Thrifting is good for everyone but too much of a good thing is still bad. It should be an option, not a first choice. There’s nothing wrong with also getting a great quality piece you know youll wear first hand.

i figured out the other day that my style is much like persephone's (hear me out); in the spring months its very flowy and feminine and girly, and then in the winter (when she's with her hubby) it's very gothic and vampiric . i just think thats neat
