    as a recovering anorexic it was so healthy to hear you talk about WANTING to maintain your weight and when you had this "picture perfect body" in the minds of anorexics, you stated you wanted to gain weight back because you looked gaunt and felt weak. I really need more of this influence from youtubers and this view! Health > looks

      @@pdxportlandia It's a real issue with your mental health. Often eating disorders start with underlying problems, like bad self-esteem, trauma, parents divorcing, anything like that. Using eating disorder behaviors can be used to suppress feeling those things. When you start to think about food and your body, restricting and/or binging and purging, it takes your mind off of those other things that you aren't ready to face. It's usually not about wanting to "look like a stick". Although, when you shift your focus from the underlying problems to food and your body, it becomes an obsession and the only way you can cope with everything is holding on to the feeling of control that you get from restricting your food.

      "They" (I'm assuming you are referring to corporations, which if you don't support you could instead buy your food from local farmers and or supermarkets) don't "make" healthy food expensive. Healthy food is expensive because it takes a long amount of time to produce and requires money and resources to produce with good quality. Unhealthy food is cheaper because it is easier and less costly to produce. Healthier, more inexpensive options for your diet include growing your own food and purchasing food from local businesses. The answer is not always corruption, as the other comments have suggested.

      As someone allergic to nightshades, this anti-inflammatory BS has GOT to stop. Unless you’re allergic or have an autoimmune disorder, no food is inflammatory period. Eating tomatoes or peppers (or potatoes-because they, along with eggplant, are also nightshades) will do literally nothing to your body except for give you nutrients. I’m legit so sick of being lumped in with these anti-science dummies telling people that tomatoes will give you inflammatory conditions like arthritis and stop muscle growth. It’s based in no science whatsoever.

I lost 30 pounds and 4 pant sizes just by going to the gym 3 or 4 days per week for about an hour, doing some spot training at home on weekends, and not eating junk food. I'd say it's because no matter how much some people work out their eating habits and addictions are so bad that they always put the weight back on. I think it's something like 80% of losing weight comes from eating better. But I do agree fad diets are silly it just takes some common sense and not putting crap in your body, and for people like you when you work out you want to eat better. Good on you as well :)

    This is almost exactly the Low FODMAP diet, a special diet for those diagnosed with major gastro-intestinal issues, like IBS, Crohns, etc, specifically because it does help in reducing mucus, bloating, and intestinal cramping associated with "inflammatory" foods. And yes, it is insanely expensive when you first switch over into it.

    • @MarmaladeINFP

      It's basically a lower-carb paleo diet that is plant-heavy while inclusive of lean meats, seafood, and eggs. So, there is much overlap with a low-FODMAP diet. This is partly because he is eliminating not only grains, legumes, and mushrooms but also restricting plant antinutrients. This means eating more of the veggies that happen to be low-FODMAP.

    He probably excludes tomatoes and other vegetables with lots of seeds inside because they have a high lectin content. Foods like salsas don’t have a lot of the tomato seeds. Spaghetti sauces, which are cooked, break down lectin to make it easier to digest.

    The reason for eating certain carbs and proteins separately is because of proper food combining for optimal digestion. They require different enzymes to digest, and when eaten together, one or the other doesn't get completely digested. The undigested food stays in the get, causing inflammation, and dysbiosis. This way you get all the nutrients you need in a day, and completely digest all of them, getting all the nutrients without any undigested food fermenting and staying in your gut where not so beneficial bacteria may feed on it. This very closely mimics how our ancestors ate. The vegetables and tubers they foraged for and ate most days, and then the primarily meat meals they ate all at once when they would once in a while make a kill.

    • @emilymarques6739
      @emilymarques6739 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Your body can release many enzymes at once- it doesn’t make sense for only one to get digested- even banana will have some protein even if it’s mostly carbs. Beans are higher in carbs than protein... salmon is high in protein and fat. Our body would release all of the enzymes needed. Our bodies are smarter than this comment makes it out to be.

    About the carbonation. A few years back i drank flavored (unsweetened) soda water daily. After a while i started noticing problems with my body that were exactly the same as when I'm dehydrated. I mentioned it to my Dr at my physical and had an electrolyte test done. Everything was normal but the Dr said to cut back or cut the soda water out completely to see if that is the problem. When i stopped drinking it altogether, the problems stopped.

    When I wanted to lose weight, I went on a similar diet for 1 year. It was purely chicken breast, salmon, ancient grains (quinoa, kamut, bulgur, etc.) with 12-14 glasses of water along with bootcamp 3x a week and Muay Thai 2x a week. I loved how much weight I lost, but I also lost muscle too. Now I'm on a plant-based diet and I just eat whatever is healthy but I also make sure to get my fats from avocados and nuts and I feel stronger. It's a hard balance between strength and being lean and also trying to find the time for meal prep and grocery shopping. I'm at a much healthier weight now, but I went too "healthy" and gained back 15 lbs so I need to lose 5-10 again lol.

      Bernie do you find it easier to be lean when you include lean meats OR do all vegan (plants vegan - not junk processed food of course)? I’ve been looking at adding lean animal proteins into what I’ve eaten for a while now which is an all plant-based vegan diet but I do not want to gain fat nor size. Little concerned meats add size to ppl?

    • @berniechoy5482
      @berniechoy5482 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Alykat736 it depends. If you go on all plant based diet and use lentils, beans and nuts as your proteins with lots of veggies, you'll definitely lose weight (limited salt and sugar). If you add the processed stuff (fake meats) and have too much of that, you'll probably gain. It would be better to eat lean meat (chicken breast and salmon) and cook with herbs and spices (no sauces unless homemade).

    • @Alykat736
      @Alykat736 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bernie Choy cool, thank you -didn’t think about ppl eating fake meats. Helpful to know animal protein works better in our bodies than tofu . Ya I just eat literally plants (not beans though -literally all veggies, all fruits,& no added SOS -salt oil sugars) and maintain a great figure BUT all the fiber wears me out so I’m thinking of animal protein to help lower my fiber & up my satiation without gaining size 🤞🏻

      Nightshades are known triggers for many people with autoimmunity. Much of Tom Brady’s focus is on reducing any kind of systemic inflammation, so I would assume that’s what is behind his no tomatoes thing. Having said that-it might be worth giving them up for a while, then seeing how you feel before reintroducing them, especially if you have autoimmunity.

      Elif Boronkay as someone who has lived in both the US as well as Europe, I disagree (slightly). The US population definitely has a far more unnatural diet than the general standard for European cuisine. But the majority of rules that make up Tom Brady’s diet is extremely unnatural and strict. Most Europeans don’t strictly monitor the acidity vs alkaline of their food, as well as limiting the macronutrients to such a specific level. It really depends on where you are or who you are, people generalise about the US so much when it comes to diet, I just want to re-iterate that it’s counterproductive to try and put all Americans into the same “terrible diet boat”.

    I really feel that high caffeine tolerance thing, I've had an emergency energy drink when I was desperately trying to wake up one day and I fell asleep after drinking it, which then made me late for school.
    And it's not like a constantly drink caffeine either!! It's just naturally stupidly high, like when most people have their first coffee they go crazy, but I literally didn't even notice a difference other than using the bathroom a bit more. On the plus side I also don't really experience caffeine withdrawal, so at least that's good.

      That didn't look like farmed salmon to me from a prospective of a fish monger and also nothing wrong with farmed salmon. You eat farmed meat so if you get salmon from for example in the uk, we have RSPCA assured farms then I don't see the problem with it.

      You should always eat wild caught salmon! The dangers of farmed fish, particularly farmed salmon are enough to make your stomach turn. Most salmon marketed as "Atlantic " salmon is farmed, meaning fish are raised in conditions that have been shown to be ridden with pesticides, feces , bacteria , parasites and lots of heavy metal. Luckily wild caught Alaskan salmon is one of the best seafood choices you can make! You should definitely read the the book/ article from Leah Zerbe , 17 fish you should never eat + safer seafood options.

      Honestly, it's extreme, she didn't even completely stick to it. I've done the same "diet", with someone else's claim on it...everyone has their own version of this...it really is extreme and any weight you lose, you gain back. All the protein (especially the shakes) make me gag...Stick with what works for you. I fast (always have), it allows me to have a bit more freedom. 💗

    • @kgal1298
      @kgal1298 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jubilant no I’m good actually I understand the nutritional aspects of this I’m not on the alkaline bandwagon but this is mainly veggies and protein which is what I need to adapt to since I’m not supposed to have what products and rice triggers my IBS. I also work for a fitness company doing copy work for our nutritionalists so I’m pretty well into understanding that if you cut something out you should still get your calories in by eating more volume.

    • @kgal1298
      @kgal1298 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LareesieAlice It's extreme if you don't add into the calorie load and actually watch your macros, but of course she didn't stick to it she clearly didn't eat enough. And I don't eat protein shakes and I've already been at a point in my life where I gained 40lbs then I gained it back now I'm 16 lbs down again, but it's recommended by my doctors I cut the gluten and cut down the carbs except for veggies because of my IBS and the fact that I have hoshimotos it's just not as pronounced yet. What's dumb about alkaline diets though is they believe you need to keep your body alkaline diets similar to this would be Mediterranean or keto or atkins. The "diets" really only go extreme if you don't eat enough. I'm only doing the 21 day meal plan right now to start cutting out what I'm not supposed to be having. I might just delete my original comment though because it apparently makes people think I was completely serious about following it and have zero nutritional background when I spend almost my entire day proofing copy for nutritionalists and people with PhDs.

    The point of the oil issue is the smoke point (aka carsinogins )
    Grape seed oil or avocado oil have high smoke points and therefore don't become unstable in baking.
    Olive oil should never be cooked with.

    Wow...this diet is not new.... Suzanne Somers had a whole community of dieters that followed her religiously for years...and she wrote at least 5 books on this "woe" (way of eating)...I know cuz I have all the books and followed this "diet"...it was called "somersizinig"... The diet definitely works, but it is a little hard to follow AND it is on the expensive side...you also have to cook a lot, but hey, it is healthy AND it does work...and you can find used "somersizinig" books all day long at second hand stores, garage sales, bookstores and Amazon...you should invest in these easy to find books if you want to try this "woe" 😁😁😁

    • @beckymccray4582
      @beckymccray4582 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i Somersized as well and recognized some of Tom Brady's "rules" as the same. It was an easy WOE once the rules became second nature. I had all her books, and i love to cook, so it was easy for me in that way. But after a while i noticed i was eating too many rich foods; too much animal protein, cheeses and other dairy - because unlike TB's diet, Somersizing allows for butter, cream, full-fat dairy. Ooh, random side note; I actually won First Place in her recipe contest in 2000-2001. My winning recipe was an Egg Souffle loaded with cheese and sour cream. lol! *(my last name was different back then, so if somebody has the book with my winning recipe in it - it's under Becky Ayala*) But the rich foods started to make me feel wretched. Finally i learned i'm lactose intolerant and all of the food combining in the world wouldn't change that. I've gone in a different direction and am now vegan. My system is happiest with plant based foods.
