    also, use polyurethane roofing sealant. DO NOT USE SILICONE. btw, this takes a week to fully cure...
    hoses required were from home depot, think it was 1/2 ID and 3/8 ID. the gun line doesn't have to be pressure rated because it blows through and doesn't hold pressure. the media pickup hose needs to be the heavier braided line. glass (12"x24") was from Lowes, because HD doesn't cut it anymore. and the vacuum i use is just a bucket vac or the little 1-5 gallon small shop vac. it doesn't require much pull.

    I was able to pick up a Harbor Freight blasting cabinet used for $60. I did a lot of research and have already purchased a knockoff Dust Deputy, metering valve, and Eastwood foot pedal and gun. I'm going to pick up the polyurethane caulking tomorrow and I cant wait to get all the mods installed. I'm going back and forth between using floodlights or led light strips but I'm sure either way it will be good.

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nice nice.. you'll love it. i mainly went with led for lower profile, no worries of breaking a bulb, and no heat.. downer is, no heat.. some people have issues with moisture building inside and the halogen bulbs burn it off i guess?.. make sure you read the info for the poly. takes like a week to fully set before you can use it. one thing i definitely need to do is rig up a ground.. i get zapped quite a bit now.

    • @Charger383Mopar
      @Charger383Mopar 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@callofgeorge I'll probably go with the floodlights if it will help keep the air dry inside the cabinet. When I was looking up the foot pedal from Eastwood I did see that earlier this year people had to wait because it was sold out. I'm glad I was able to get one from them.

    You DO know that you have the plastic dust cyclone connected up Backwards, right. The suction goes in the top, and the dust/media goes in the side.

    • @callofgeorge

      yup. already mentioned in comments long time ago. it was corrected after making the video. 1st time using one and my instructions/markings were in chinese..

      wheelstandr that's awesome.. i was actually shopping for a wilton when i found it.. think my x/y vise may be a wilton. think i gave around $200 or so for the Palmgren though..

    Nice efficient vid. FYI your dust colector is hooked up in reverse. Tge vac should be on the top suction connection, the intake should go on the cyclone side connection.

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks. and yup, it was corrected right after making the video. not good at reading the Chinese instructions and never hooked one up before. luckily everyone has told me in the comments lol. thanks for the info though. it works great now that its hooked up correctly :P

  • @neatpleats11
    @neatpleats11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I build cyclones and just wanted to let you know your cyclone hoses are set up backwards. The vent from the side of the cyclone is the intake and the hose that goes up and out of the top is for the clean air to come out. Just switch the two hoses around.

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yup, i realized pretty quick i had it backwards and another person commented it as well lol. thanks though.

    If your media's getting wet, light bulbs aren't gonna cut it for drying.
    You've gotta dry the air before it goes in. Put a water separator on your compressor output and then an inline desiccant drying chamber before the cabinet.

      I'm not having issues.. i've heard people use normal bulbs to get rid of the moisture from humidity.. i live in southern MS where humidity is ridiculous.

    doesnt the cyclone make the vacuum flow faster? surely better to not use that? or is there a specific reason for using one?
    on my setup currently i have a hose connected to the cabinet it goes through a sealed metal paint can which has attachments for the hose and vacuum cleaner. im getting ballooning on my gloves which is annoying however when i didnt use a vac for a test the gun was a bit crap but soon as i used the vacuum cleaner setup it was much better.
    just got to deal with the ballooning

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  ปีที่แล้ว

      you need a variable speed controller to lower the rpm of the vacuum. the cyclone system is to limit the amount of dust collected in the actual vacuum and makes it stay inside the bucket for easier emptying.

  • @callofgeorge
    @callofgeorge  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    added links to the items needed.. btw, you can run this setup on 2-3 cups of media.. i use tractor supply's black diamond media..

      when did you buy the cabinet? it looks like a newer and a more updated version of others I've seen in older videos. not referring to your mods of course

    • @MrCt333
      @MrCt333 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gerardosoto9154 Its the newest Harbor Freight Blast Cabinet that they sell. I just purchased one, I know in one video the guy said they included a tube of silicon for his cabinet and they had put the screws in bags. Mine had no silicone and all the screws where in the single cardboard/plastic package. I removed every last piece of foam tape except for the door on my cabinet, doing so made the cabinet fit together much nicer and not buckle in the areas between the bolts.

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry for late reply.. not getting notifications. ya, i guess its a newer one.. mine didn't have any silicone.

    How have the LED light strips held up? Where are you housing the 12 volt driver?

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      0 problems out of them so far. working great. about time to swap my glass out for the viewing panel though. i got some cut at lowes a while back, so I'm good to go there. the original harbor freight light is actually 12V, so I'm using the original power brick. the switch however is 120V rated if you choose to go that route.

    I don't know, if I missed it, is your media just constantly being recycled?

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      blast cabinets reuse the media normally until it is broken down to the point where it's no longer abrasive. originally it ran on a siphon tube which would clog or wouldn't pull consistent. this system funnels to the bottom where it's pulled by the vacuum created by the system design and reused constantly. the mods on mine allow me to run on about 1-3 cups of media that'll last for a several weeks (depending on use). it will slowly degrade to where it doesn't remove well and i'll dump it and refill with another 1-3 cups of fresh media. I'll also change out the media depending on what I'm blasting. it also makes it extremely easy for quick media changes.

    what compressor do you use? Size wise?

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i have a 5hp 80 gallon. i forgot the cfm output, but it runs everything without issue. the burr tool is the only tool that if I'm spinning it constant, it pretty much stays running.

    • @Nightmarehc130
      @Nightmarehc130 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow that is a big one!! Do you think their 21 or 26 gallon compressor would work for small stuff like tumblers and gun work?

    • @callofgeorge
      @callofgeorge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ya, should be fine.. worst case, if you're running a cabinet blaster with that small of a compressor, you'll have to just stop blasting when it kicks on to wait for it to refill. constant blasting, you'd probably need a 60gal or so. or at least a good size compressor motor to keep the cfm up.
