Green dots need less color tint in order for the green light to reflect off the inside of the glass. Red is a lower wave length of light than green, and therefore you need a blueish hue to off set that low energy, so more light is reflected to the user's eye by blocking it from transmitting through the glass. It makes the red "pop" as blue blocks red light better. For night vision use, the lens for the green reticle will be coated to block/ reflect green colors - like the reticle AND your green phosphor NODs. That's why the red reticle'd dot sight works better.
My question then would be how the green tint would affect night vision, unless you're using a clip on NVG in front of your red dot, for some odd reason? Assuming we're referring to passive aiming here, Nods translate infrared light into visible light of a single color. The spectrum of light that the tint blocks, hopefully, shouldn't be within the infrared bands of light. If it was, you'd think that the red reticle tint would be worse for night vision, as red is closer to infrared than green is. All that said, I just don't understand how the night vision use would be affected the way you describe?
@@KeterMalkuth I probably hip shot my comment a bit, so here goes it. Let's use Green plant life as viewed by the naked eye. Chlorophyll gives plants their green color because it does not absorb the green wavelengths of white light. Chlorophyll, which cannot be detected by visible light, is sensitive to near infrared light. A high percentage of near infrared light is reflected off the leaves in healthy plants. Also, reflected near-infrared radiation can be sensed by satellites, allowing scientists to study vegetation from space. Healthy vegetation absorbs blue- and red-light energy to fuel photosynthesis and create chlorophyll. A plant with more chlorophyll will reflect more near-infrared energy than an unhealthy plant. Thus, analyzing a plants spectrum of both absorption and reflection in visible and in infrared wavelengths can provide information about the plants' health and productivity. So it goes with the coatings on the lens of the dot sight: The green dot will not show up brightly unless you turn the brightnesses settings waaaay up and get reduced battery life - unless you coat the lens with a filter that blocks or reflects these wavelengths of light. This causes the green dot to "pop" and it will also block near-infrared light as well. The green phosphor dot display will only display green at the ocular end of the NODs, but you must also keep in mid that depending on what hue of green the dot sight lens is calibrated to block/reflect that will also have some effect on what color is displayed on a green phosphor display (darker or brighter). That's not to say that if you had a white phosphor dot display that you could then easily see through the green dot sight - I hope I didn't confuse anyone over that. Whatever coatings are on the green dot sight they are having a similar effect as a LIF (light interference filter) maybe in the 500ish nm spectrum. Next time you have a set of Nods on, try looking at a bunch of green plant life, and you will notice a variety of different hues and brightnesses that do not represent what you would see with your naked eye. I hope this is the answer you were looking for.
Great video. I really like how you show us all the close-up on what the dot and what it looks like under different backgrounds. This video really did help me. Thanks
Great watch! It's a bit weird having listened only to your voice for the last 2 years and finally seeing your face. But worry not. you passed. I will continue watching your channel! ❤
My brother just recommended me your channel. Got to say, it's a good start when I saw the planetside shirt. Wasn't expecting a optic review channel to feature anything planetside related. That being said, I look forward to seeing what you do next. 👍
Thanks bro. I’ve watched countless videos to find which I should put on my pistol and after watching this I know exactly what I’m going to run on my pistol, carbine & rifle. Thanks bro. Your the truth!
I was leaning towards the 6MOA myself as well. From a retail RMR site, they reported that overall, people with an astigmatism report that the green color is more “friendly” plus uses less power and distorts less. I realize as you pointed out, “no two eyes are the same” and you lean towards the Red Dot however. Great content and info. My first choice is the EPS-Carry-GR-6 and this breakdown has been very helpful! Thank you!!
I bought into the hype of the 6 moa dot for astigmatism and fast shooting, but unfortunately it didn't work for me. The circle dot comes through nice and clear every time, it doesnt matter red or green.
Proves my point exactly with everyone eyes being different. I'm glad tho that holosun at least has as many options for reticles and colors as they do. They try to cover everyone.
@@CDOESexactly. It really is best to see them in person if possible or at least buy them from a place that makes returns easy. I really have liked the EPS carry. I'm glad holosun gives us options on it.
On the other hand, the 6 MOA HoloSun dots work really well for my eyes. Circle dot is ok but not as clear as the 6 MOA. But then the circle dot from some of the Sig Romeo pistol dots works great for me. Best option is to try it out yourself as always!
It's really a shame that prism optics are like 3 inch eye relief. An etched reticle could resolve this whole situation. Maybe someday we'll have the technology. Seems like a relatively simple mechanical thing for engineers or inventors to overcome. I guess there's just such a small market or demand for it .
I have really bad astigmatism too and decided to go with the circle dot with no center dot. It's excellent and it does allow you to shoot accurately despite no center dot.
I have tried many of the EPS Carry versions. The ONLY one I use today is the EPS Carry MRS in Green. It is the most expensive, but it is also the most feature packed. I've got over 8,000 rounds through a couple of them with no issues at all. The EPS Carry MRS in Green has one additional feature that the Red version doesn't. Because the Green emitter is more energy efficient, Holosun was able to give users more control. So you can set the "Minimum" Brightness setting even in *Auto* Mode. So you can set the reticle to be bright enough to use indoors and even under a weapon light. But once you go into a brighter area, the reticle will still automatically brighten to adjust.
I have a 6 MOA Green EPS (full size) on a S&W Model 66. I like the size of the dot, as someone with astigmatism, I find the larger dots bloom less for me. I like the EPS, but I'm considering replacing it with an ACSS 507C.
I had the ACSS 507c, took it off for a 509t-X2, I think the chevron is pointless: - on a pistol most aiming is center of mass sloppy sight picture, where the chevron becomes a lopsided "large dot". Pistol shooting lacks the precision of using top of the chevron at a 6-oclock hold with inherent distance holds for the rest of the geometry. - The oversized circle is a neat gimmick that loses all value after a few hours of presentation practice. - Realizing I have an astigmatism myself (why are dots always so fuzzy??), the precise chevron looses more value with the fuzziness due to said astigmatism. Overall I'd say the ACSS 507C is great on paper, but no real value over a normal dot in practice. Finally, after running that open emitter 507c on a backcountry handgun for one season, I definitively claim that open dots are pure obsolete trash
I've used EPS (red) 6MOA extensively, and the ACSS 507C about 3/4 as much time. They are good for different purposes I think. For USPSA & Steel Challenge I'd prefer the 6MOA EPS. For a pistol that's unfamiliar the ACSS outer ring helps a bit, but I find the chevron reticle distracting for faster shooting in matches. Functionally it's faster if I just put the whole chevron where I want to hit, but my brain wants to use the tiny point of the chevron and I slow down needlessly to accommodate that. So it's slower in matches even if it's helpful in orienting the sight picture otherwise. The ACSS might be the best training optic to help people dial in their presentation, however. It's really good for that. It's also very good for awkward shots from positions that don't let you begin from a known draw presentation. Ultimately I'm probably going to put it on a precision AR as an offset RDS.
6moa red EPS is hands down my favorite pistol dot. Compared to a 509t-x2 (improved 2nd gen), the 6moa red EPS has less distortion or parallax and less blue tint. Better than the glock native scs as well. It is the closest I've experienced to "a red dot floating in thin air".
In my subjective experience, the tint on HoloSun green dots is more noticeable and I usually prefer the blueish tint of the red dots over the reddish tint I see on the green dots
Green has less of a tint because our eyes are so much more sensitive to green light. We perceive it as brighter -> the dot can be darker compared to the background -> needs less power -> no notch filter needed. The notch filter is artificially creating the same effect, by filtering red light out, hence making the red dot brighter compared to the environment. Next time Steiner MPS? 😇

Hey C_DOES, thanks for this review. Been wanting to buy one of the green holosuns. I was also wondering how do you guys set up your cameras for the rifle scope reviews. I tried looking to see if you guys had a video on the set up? Thanks.

I wonder if a circle dot for the green would make a difference when it comes to night vision. I know circle dots read more clearly for my naked eyes in day and night conditions. I don't know if it would be the same effect, though...
For the many smart people on the comments. It makes sense that the green isn't as good, because the tint is designed to reflect green light. And with s green nv tube, it reflects it back.
@@CDOES the hardest part seems to be light transmission and extreme low light without supplemental illumination for passive. I still want to have both options. Hope to maybe see some LAM reviews in the future now that you have nods
Thank a lot I’m glad your explanation of the 6 moa up close is self defense ! Not Murder !!! Thanks for your help , I’ve watched many videos n you told me what I was trying to figure out, and now I know what I want , 6 moa dot , not sure of color , I have a Stigmatism also ( did you have better luck with blue or red ? )Going to try n watch again 💥💥🔫 thanks from Commy Ct 🇺🇸
Went with the green reticle AEMS specifically because it appeared to have better tint than the red. Some red Holosuns are not great in the tint department. If I get a 510c it will certainly be the green. I live in dry, beige/brown country and I don’t use night vision.
The 6 moa is still smaller and more precise than any pistol front sight post. With that said and having used both, I still prefer the 2moa dot. It just works for me.
I wonder if the tint varies...I've had a few, all red, all EPS Carry, all 6MOA, and one seemed to have more like 25% more tint than the others. **I didn't really notice until I shot at an indoor range once and was going for tiny groups at 20Y.
I have one green optic.....I like it enough not to get rid of it......but if buying another it would be in red......in my environment in the summer foliage it's just seems like it's easier for me to not let the reticle blend in with the background
Their SCS Carry optics are only available in green. Because they have no battery other than an internal capacitor system (?), they require absolute minimal acceptable power draw. Green is much easier to see with less power being used. Also, I have astigmatism in both eyes. Dots are hard for me to use without my corrective glasses. That said, the green dot (and green lasers) are dramatically easier for me to pick up on without RX glasses. Not quite grasping why the more heavily tinted lens on the red (which makes it easier to see on the projected surface) appears to have more light transmission under dark conditions. I haven't tried it myself, but your camera makes it pretty obvious. Nice review.
Green dots need less color tint in order for the green light to reflect off the inside of the glass. Red is a lower wave length of light than green, and therefore you need a blueish hue to off set that low energy, so more light is reflected to the user's eye by blocking it from transmitting through the glass. For the many smart people on the comments. It makes sense that the green isn't as good, because the tint is designed to reflect green light. And with s green nv tube, it reflects it back.
Really looking forward to more NV passive aiming comparisons, especialy for these budget dots
They make more sense to me then doing laser /light. If you can see it anyone else with nv can see it to
@@CDOES the hardest part seems to be light transmission and extreme low light without supplemental illumination for passive. I still want to have both options. Hope to maybe see some LAM reviews in the future now that you have nods
@@ozarkman291 let us how that some companies are willing to send me a million dollars worth of gear
Just ordered green 6 moa eps carry
Dude! I had you pegged as looking a lot more like Ian.
Thanks and Blessings! Green Six for me. (new sub - great review!)
Great video. Thank you
I don’t think I’ve ever seen your face. Nice to put a face to the name! Great videos btw.
What a beaut. And I’m as straight as they come. Love the channel dude.
Love your content... So here's the question: if you had white phosphor or a Sionyx Opsin would you have clear passive aiming through the green dot?
Went with the green reticle AEMS specifically because it appeared to have better tint than the red. Some red Holosuns are not great in the tint department. If I get a 510c it will certainly be the green.
I live in dry, beige/brown country and I don’t use night vision.
This is a helpful video thank you
Is this the same with the tinted glass on all holosun red dot green vs red or only this model?
Specifically the models withe the accs vulcan reticle
What iron sights would you recommend to go with the EPS grn6 for Glock
Where did you find pic rail mounts for a rifle? I was thinking of trying one on a 12.3 in ar.
Came here for the optics, stayed for the face 😘. Sweeter than the reticle reveals.
I like the circle-dot and in red.
The 6 moa is still smaller and more precise than any pistol front sight post. With that said and having used both, I still prefer the 2moa dot. It just works for me.
What did you end up getting for your CCW?
If, someday, I can afford NODS, I think I’ll be able to then flip for the red red dot. I’m going with the green for now. Thanks.
Great vid!
Bigger and better reveal than the talking Baklava.
Laughing at all the people who haven't been here enough to have seen your face before.
It is a great style though. Kudos.
I've a question for you, which colour is better, more definite and crisp in case of astigmatism?? (Six MOA dot)
Lookin' like a movie star homie.
Ayeee! C_DOES has a face!
