Oh robert , brings back wonderful memories. Emmigrated from Lockerbie Scotland back in 85, we had fishing rights through the comrades club in Lockerbie, had some great dry fly fishing up on that stretch especially between the railway bridge and the motorway, bit further south than where you were fishing. Great video, was fishing along with you, Im knackered!!
Fantastic stuff Sue, I’m glad it brought back some wonderful memories 😊 I’ll definitely be back for a visit next year it’s a fantastic stretch of water. Thanks very much for watching 😊🙏
That is a lovely river you are lucky to have access to it, when I took up squash my backhand was weak, so I practised that on my own on an empty court, made a big difference. When wet fly anglers take up dry fly fishing they have to concentrate hard on developing a new style, that is cast a slack line, with the curve contrary to the direction of flow, or the fly will drag. This needs to be practised for years, unlike wet fly which is a very straight forward style of fishing and far easier. Dry fly is more demanding but I find far my satisfying. Also the fly needs to float correctly, so dry it and use a desiccant every now and then, especially when approaching a good fish that’s rising, also your correct to use a “mud” style treatment to make the leader less visible. All this is far more exacting and requires more skill that wet fly but it is very satisfying when you get it right. Good luck.
Thank you very much for watching Chris 😊🙏 I’ve been following your channel for a while now and really enjoying it! I’ll be up on Deeside at Dinnet end of July. Hopefully manage to winkle out a summer salmon 🎣
Brilliant video sir. Really brilliant. Even though ye hade a stinker it was great watching. What a hatch of grannom that was. Awesome to watch. You have the same curse as myself at times. Excitement gets the better of us and we lift into the fish far too soon. Was great to see ye land that one though. Honestly, an excellent video👏👏
😂 thanks pal, aye it’s hard not to get too excited eh? That’s a great bit of water so it is, I’ll definitely be back at some point. Thanks again for watching, much appreciated 🙏🎣

great stuff, Robert! very difficult brownies here, not helped by bright sunshine behind you (guaranteed to fry a Scotsman!🤣) and a pacey, glassy glide! you managed to crack the code though! have you beaten the pb yet? 👍👍
Hey thanks so much for watching. I haven’t yet beat that PB yet. I hope to get back down to the Annan at some point and have another go. 😊🎣 You have a great channel too, I look forward to watching more of your content and have subscribed 😊
Another great video Robert pal 😉👍🏼 I’m sure i message you in one of your previous but I just got into fly fishing this season & I’ve only been out 6/7 times & yet to catch I’ve had a couple of takes but I panicked & lost them 🤷🏼♂️😂 anyways I’m hoping you can give me a wee bit advice I’m struggling to get a fly tied without getting kinks in the leader I’m not sure what’s happening I do the same knot I’ve used for tying hooks on for 40 year 🤷🏼♂️ over 5/6/7 times wet the line then pull through again I’ve tied it thousands of times but when I’m tying a fly on it’s a struggle & im no using cheap leader btw so I’m loosing too much for what I’m doing any advice would be more than welcome 🙏🏼 Take it easy n tight lines ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
Hi Craig, so sorry for the late repo as here this comment got buried under some others. What sort of knot are you using to tie your flies on? I just use a blood knot for my trout fishing and give it plenty of saliva before tightening up slowly.
I realise I’m an old boy now (started fly fishing in the 70s) and my views probably seem odd, but for me it’s all about catching a fish the right way, otherwise why not use a worm? And therefore I find the use of flies as basically floats or bite indicators a bit naff, if your dry fly fishing then why not use one fly?
They don’t come any better than that fish, fabulous, well done.
