I cant believe you made an entire video about my logo, im lost for words!. I didnt give you many details because i thought it was going to be a 30s clip of your video, mabe some kerning and colours fixes, but this is so much more than I anticipated, thanks a lot!
As your editor said, my logo is meant to depict two people speaking, me being the left one and the client being the g and the o talking, thats why I used two different colours. I wanted it to be about design of course, because thats what i do, but i didnt wanted it to be too obvious either. I think a good logo should be a bit abstract and leave some guessing work for the viewer, and I am a bit concerned mine is maybe too litteral.
About your redesign, I really like your thought process and i've realiced we almost have the same workflow, probably watching your videos for years had something to do with it haha. I might try changing the o an the g to an egg-shaped form, it might help with visual balance and readability. Your version was supper happy and welcoming for the viewer, and I'm thinking about changing the colors to more friendly ones, because i really like the mood.
The final outcome looks super clean and the happy vibes are very warm and welcoming, however I dont think it fits my personality or how i want to be percieved by clients, but you didnt knew that since i didnt gave you a brief, and all the decisions were well explained and I totally respect your version.
I can't stress how much I apreciate you putting a whole video about my personal logo. This is one of the coolest things to ever happen to me and I am so grateful for your time. I'm sharing this with everyone I know who cares about design.

Loved everything save for that "g". A capital G would have fit much better as you didn't need the "smile" twice and it would have kept the logo locked in it's shape, rather than losing so much to negative areas.
I'd definitely get rid of that descendant on the G, didn't seem fitting there. Great video, as always! :)
Couldn't stop seeing this, At most a serif style g (two loops and a short joiner) but most likely a small capital

It felt like you were trying to force a square into a triangle hole with that descender on the “g.” I think the “H” and “U” had a perfect amount of manipulation and the “G” could’ve been set in caps to solve the negative space issue with the “g” descender.
Finding the perfect g-spot was hard.

Looks good! The empty space of the "U" shape reminds me of an anchor so you could use that basic shape for some maritime company's logo as well!
I really like your redesign but personally I would make the "g" normal because the smile in the "U" gives it already enough personality. And then probably make the "U" a different colour or smth. Also I like how you made every letter capital but the "g" it really makes it look more playful as you intended!
Loved this and how you explained the process and What I enjoyed the most is that we all have different likes and dislikes as creatives and that’s fine !, but at the end of the day it all looks amazing !!!

Question. Why didn't you go for the capital letter G
Hey Will, nice ideas as always. The only thing I don't understand is why you haven't used the 'components' method to properly design the smiley 'U'.
You could have simply duplicated the curve of the middle line of the 'H' and used it to make the smile with the same curve and thickness,
then recycling the top pillars of the H to create the eyes, it would have made this custom typeface look even more consistent.
The way you made the smiley U looks too striking compared to the rest of the font,
and it kinda could be the logo on its own (maybe enclosed into a circle or a rounded square?)
Personally I would have focused more on a monogram solution around your idea of the smiley U rather than designing the whole word.
A good logo overall, even if the long G solution kinda reminds me too much the Amazon arrow.

Ngl.. I like the logo Hugo had before a LOT more than what you've done to it, the smile in the U looks awesome but the G is... Just bad for some reason, I can't explain why.

The H and U were both uppercase so why force the g to be lower case, personally I found that the descender was taking up too much and being a bit intrusive on the rest of the logo. Also you already had the smile on the U so to get a double smile felt a little awkward. Still good and clean so an 8/10.
This was really cool to see the process you go through to get to the final result. Unlike most people here I suspect, I have zero experience with logo design or any type of design for that matter. As you can probably tell from my channel logo.
I love the approach for the redesigned logo, however, I feel it resembles a lot of Amazon’s logo and IHOP logo. But then again what logo doesn’t look like another. Great job on the video!

Was the 'g' supposed to look like a headset? It looks like the mouthpiece of the headset is curling round to the mouth of the smiley face in the u.
When you see this, I think it looks bloody brilliant and perfect for a Gamer.
Why not go for a capital G? Smile is already in U. Everything seems capital as well.
You should have a course! I love design but got stock sometimes! And even after designing for years! I still can't say I am a graphic designer!
Probably combine the g with the bottom half of the U ?

Why the g with the mouth when the U already has one.. you had to fiddle with it over and over and that usually is a red flag? IMHO the g doesn't work shape wise and I would've ditched it as it to just a styled letter g it fights over the u smiley I think
It's not bad. Smiley faces always feel a bit amateurish/cheap to me though so I like to avoid them.

As much as I admire the work and skills of yours, I really think that original was a better one, it seems like 2 people are talking. The redesign reminds me of a knock off Amazon logo.
Hugo seemed more complicated then the first one. If you kept the empty u you might not have known it was Hugo but the it was already a face, but it’s the same problem here just more complicated. You had the descender because you were trying for a face, you succeeded it was a winking face. But by keeping the ascenders of the u there was no use for the g.
A smiley face in a u isn’t the most original. MMU student union already does this. And the descender in the G looks like ihop.

You had that descender because it was originally the mouth of the smily face. I don't think you need a massive descender for the g anymore now the smile is limited to the U.
Simply doing the original logo upside down is a way better approach.
next time redesign schutzstaffel logo, its a german camp management company.

I think the letter 'u' of Hugo is a bit confusing for a reader who doesn't know the brand name.

I would have settled for a regular looking "g" instead, the smile already exists in the "u" but great video.

can you recommend us after effect alternative ? for ipad or pc
Honestly, I don't think there are many like-for-like after effect alternatives. After Effects sort of addresses a middle segment of the market, not too advanced, but not beginner. Most other software you find will have a much different workflow (like Davinci Fusion), or they will just be designed for the professional visual effects artist (like Nuke). IMO, for the stuff After Effects does, there is no alternative.
why would you repeat the same concept of the smile?
Will: "This is quite difficult....."
Will: "But as you can see,(I'm pretty much a master class designer so) I do this quite easily..."

This isn't good design kids, don't look at this for improvement. Too many elements trying to get the limelight here. Its all over the place. Super extended 'G' descender, lower arched 'H' crossbar and a 'U' with three separate elements all trying to get your attention. Its not refined, its messy and overwhelmed. Pick one element and point of focus. You've also used a capital 'H' but made it the same height as all the lower case letters. It also looks too wide and unbalanced compared to the rest of the letters. You should have gone all lowercase, all uppercase or made the 'H' larger than the lowercase letters as its a capital. The 'H' and the 'U' also look like two separate letters against the 'G' and the 'O'. If you slice down the middle the two designs are completely different. The end two letters are much softer and rounder, the first too much more rigid. You should have followed the roundness off the 'O' letter and reflected it within the bowl of the 'U' more closely for a more coherent look. Youre pretty useless without pre-made fonts doing 90% of the work. The fact that you teach people and critic others work is baffling.
It honestly baffles me that someone so opinionated about others works could do such a mediocre job.
Everyone will read "hügo" definitely not a match for me.

But that g was still irritating me as the u had a curve and g had too so It was double curves which Idk but was irritating me

@@casperdecrook2612 i wont be using it since it doesnt fit my style/ proffile, but i didnt think it was meant for that.
I'd say the important part was to show his approach and help others learn from my mistakes or simply get another take at my logo.
I might do some tweaks specially on the g though.

Grey video @will Paterson as always..... I loved the whole process however, the U although being creative about it, I feel doesn't quite work well... I love the G... And a rounded U might have done more justice.......... Maybe the U having a different color for an accent........... Let me know your thoughts as well

I was reading “OGny”. No one will perceive it as HUGO unless you told them.
Edit after watching full video: Your solution wasn’t great as well. Type was very very messy. A better solution was possible. But seeing you had done it in a limited time, it’s still a good job. you at least made it better than it was before.
