Karl XII seeked refugeed in Turkey(ottoman kingdom - who was at war with russia as well) after a failed battle which he had fled but when the sultan demanded karl xii leave the country (which the king didnt want to - probably because he feared he would be captured until he could plan a safe escape route and get in contact with his home nation) his royal guards fought back against the sultans guards because his king didnt wanna leave yet and they, like 60 of them or something crazy fought against the turkish army all alone - it was insane. until the sultan granted them safe passage- they fought house to house. I suspect this video is based on that. we were taught this event in school but I forgot much of it.
The song is based on a hymn, in Swedish named "Härlig är jorden". The melody is from "‘Schlesische Volkslieder" by none other than August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (the man behind "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles") and is known as "Schönster Herr Jesu" in German.
They both have their merits. The Swedish one seems more like a 'these are who we remember.' The English version is very much a sort of 'this is who they are to this day.'
The Ottoman assault was supposed to be a hint. To kill to many of the swedes, and most definitely the King, would not have been a good thing so the ottoman soldiers were at a bit of an disadvantage here.
