"We're not made of magic; we're made of practice." I really like this. It has been said in different ways before, but this one rings my bell. Is that your own phrasing? I want to be able to quote the right person with that. :)
I get them. Watching someone skilled working on something seems often magical. Just yesterday my animations lecturer wanted to show me something and sketched a character design for our project and I... just sat there and watched in awe. MAGIC! Thank you for the answer. I might actually put that on my wall. :)
Thank you so much for the lesson. I am not a fashion artist or designer but it is really helpful in my fantasy art to know how to paint fabrics so my subjects look right! :D
You never fail to amaze me. Awesome video! I learned about pile the hard way when I was making a gown to wear to a wedding. Purple velvet. I cut both sleeves together as usual… sewed the dress together and had a sleeve significantly lighter than the rest of the dress. Since they were long sleeves, I had to go buy another expensive yard of velvet. That was 50 years ago, but I vividly remember! ❤ Shirley
I'm a aspiring fashion designer that's currently working on my clothing line to drop this winter & your videos are helping me a lot , even though I'm not in design school yet.
Oh thank god I found this video. I'm trying to design a velvet northern renaissance gown and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to render it. You've saved my Costume Design grade.
For me it’s been a difficult fabric to sew especially silk or viscose type! Thanks for the video! Could you please do another video on sewing with chiffon/georgette especially silk ones! I’ve found them also difficult to sew!😊❤❤❤❤
Hey Mrs. Hong, thank you for this tutorial. I'm having issues with rendering velvet in black color; where highlights and shadows should be and also since I can't paint light on dark, please I need help, thank you ♥️
Thanks for sharing your nice lesson about velvet fabric. I need to learn more about fashion. ☺️💕👍🏻 Hello 👋🏻 I’m your newest follower.☺️👍🏻 God bless and please keep safe always.☺️🙏🏻
Another thing, I was told that the pile should always go down but these days I’ve come across velvet pants that the pile is upward! Can you expand on that please?❤❤❤
Hey, Zoe, I love your videos, they've been super helpful to me! I do fashion design as a hobby (only sketches, I don't actually make the clothes, although I've always wanted to), and I have a video request. After I finish the fashion line I'm currently working on, I wanted to do a swimwear line next, so I was wondering if you could make a video on how to draw swimwear, if you haven't done so already. You know, just a video covering the basic styles and shapes of swimwear - one-piece, bikini, tankini, etc. You get it. Other than that, your videos are awesome, keep 'em coming!
It's okay, no rush! Like I said, I'm not gonna start swimwear until I finish the line I'm working on now, and that's not gonna be for a while. But it's good to know that it's on the list, I'll look out for it!
hello Zoé. .. quick question...if I were to color the grey blazer with marker...would I cover the whole blazer at first with the base color and then add the highlight color or should I leave the white areas out? grazie
Nice. From the photo, I can tell the velvet base of the strand is deep burgundy velvet and the fabric grain (pile)is upside down, therefor your shadow is highlighted because of the direction of the velvet's pile direction is laying down, catching light...if grain is directed down, then your shadows would be more the dark shadows, more realistic...make senses?!🤔🤓😝👌🏼
.Hi Zoey, thanks to you I've learned al lot. I have a tiring request : When you have time ,could you please color the same piece -a skirt for example- in different types like one velvet, one satin, one organza, etc.? I know you have videos for almost each one but I need to see the difference while coloring. Thanksss :*
I went to Otis College of Art and Design, but I'm also a result of working in the industry for 20 years, teaching for 5 years, and practicing on my own.
Hi. I liked this video. Can you draw a tumblr girl taking a picture infront of the mirror, please. I can't draw that, and I think I can learn watching your lessons.

+O. Thirikalee Yes, that's my phrasing. My students in class would watch me demo something and tell me I'm magical and I would tell them this. :)

Hahaha~ yeah, I've had students (jokingly) argue back, "No, Zoe, stop, it's magic, that's just crazy" haha
It sure looks like it, sometimes!

Did you try brightening your computer screen? It can be a little difficult to portray subtleties on camera.
