How refreshing it is to see someone go from the IC Title to the World Title again. Feels like it was the reverse a lot of the time under Vince, once someone lost the World Title, they'd drop down and win the IC Title to give them something to do, or someone in the midcard would just randomly win the IC Title and hold it for a few months and never advance past that level. Gunther (and I'm sure Bron Breakker will too) going from having an impressive, historic IC Title run and getting over in the mid-card first that they become undeniable for a World Title run in the future just feels like the more natural progression then Vince's backward booking where the IC/US Titles became consolation prizes for previous main eventers rather than stepping stones for future stars to build themselves up with. Also nice to see King of the Ring/Queen of the Ring mean something this year, with both winners becoming World Champions at Summerslam (This was also Nia Jax's first Summerslam too along with Sami Zayn, crazy to believe) . I think King Booker (though he had been WCW Champion 5 times before) and Brock Lesnar are the only King of the Ring winners before Gunther to become World Champion as a direct result of winning KOTR. Sure Bret Hart and Sheamus had already been champion before and Austin, Triple H, Angle and Edge would eventually become World Champions, but only one of them even got a title shot as a result of that and even then it was a triple threat match. Love to see Roman Reigns get naturally over more as a face in this one night than in 5 years of Vince shoving him down our throats ever did.
I'm no Nia fan but it felt like the right call for her to win, even though I REALLY hate to see Bayley lose when I feel like she and Naomi should have a championship program together first. But one day. 🥺 Thanks for another great upload, Brian!
Great line from punk. It’s such a great comeback and gets to the core of the Rollins character, heel or face. The quest to be respected and to be the face that runs the place.
I'm just happy that finally the king of the ring means something. There's been guys who won the then WWF championship after winning the KOTR tournament. However, It would happen long after to mean anything. In triple H case it was years after he won the KOTR tournament. I hope WWE sticks with this format. Where the king&Queen get title shots even if they don't win. Use the tournament to build new stars moving forward.
My only nitpick on this show was most of the matches had interference. Might not have worked out for all of them(Paul v Knight) but the fact they did to some degree. Dom, Logan’s friend, Tiffany, technically Seth, Finn, and Bloodline. Granted we knew all of those were going to happen but that also the problem. So many stories and angles that basically had to have interference to progress

I was at the show, and it was fantastic. One thing to consider, too, is that the Cleveland humidity was brutal that day, so they may have taken down the actual wrestling down a notch for the sake of the performers. But, man, what phenomenal storytelling across the board.
Another great review!!! FINALLY someone agrees with me, priest vs Gunther was my absolute favorite match of the night. All my friends say it wasn’t. Just another great PLE and god I love wrestling.
Question, what was the crowd like live. Cause in some shots you hear people chanting on the broadcast but see everyone just sitting there doing nothing
Roman's theme is his WM 40 Night 2 theme, they may have just brought it back for the return but probably not for normal appearances. I think the theme was perfect except for the fact it was too long at the beginning.
He didn't catch one single reference to the Taker/Hart HBK ref match, because there were tons of callbacks to it the entire match. Flea Market Cornette isn't that sharp.
I never thought a stadium show would’ve came to Cleveland and the atmosphere live was ELECTRIC. this was an amazing show with twists and turns and that return of Roman would’ve blown the roof off browns stadium if we had one haha this past weekend is an experience i’ll never forget.
My friend and I were able to get tickets the Sunday before, was my first ever stadium show and I dont think I will ever the feeling I had during this event. Just an insane atmosphere. Lol we were in the section shouting "we can't see shit". That light was blinding
If I had to pick between Dynasty and Revolution I’d go with the latter. Personally enjoyed more from that show than Dynasty (and 3 of my top ten MOTY occurred at Revolution)
Summer Slam being 2 days (3 days really cause the SmackDown before) next year excites me. If you bring in music acts in the day and wrestling at night you have a hell of an event. Triple H was hinting at that and even my non wrestling friends said they'd go to it.
I enjoyed this year's Summer Slam more than last year and digging the aesthetics of the home city for the show. Rhea still amazes me with her work over the years and the match with Liv did great for everyone. Gunther I think will take the World Heavyweight Championship into new heights and hopefully more bangers as we say now; Damien did excellent as usual on his end. Nia did among her best next to the match with Rhea back in Elimination Chamber I am fine to admit. I have fond memories of "Glock Anderson."

Phil's been garbage since 2022. His AEW matches last year were crap. i really wish Trips wasn't so hell-bent on "making things right" with him. And the "friendship bracelet" angle is so stupid. Cranky Mediocre Punk DOES understand that he can just make another bracelet, right? I can see it now…Punk finally beats Drew at Survivor Series with the bracelet on the line, only for Drew to be all "ha-ha, that's not the bracelet i took, that's a copy I made! Keep MY bracelet close to your heart, you piece of crap!" Seriously, if Phil would retire and kick McAfee off of commentary, I would be *so* happy.
My two biggest complaints: 1) You have an eight hour show and the big in-ring debut of the Wyatts STILL has to get bumped to the next night's RAW? 2) HHH deciding the "your kind of people" guy gets to be proven right. Again.
8 hour show? There were 7 matches, it was the standard 4 hour big PLE show. No time for low and mid carders, which is exactly what everybody involved in that program is.
@@maceomaceo11 There was also a three hour pre-show that had zero matches. They usually at least put on a tag team match or two for those. (Oh and no tag title matches at ALL for the main card?)
@@FlashNeko417 JD (the tag champs) and Bloodline (the tag champs) were major parts of the show. And how long do you expect an audience to attend an event? 4 hours is already pushing it, people already put in a full day just to attend. Tag title matches in an empty stadium would only make the titles look more bush league. All major sports have several hour long pre-shows, this is the norm. The audience is being reconditioned. Story and plotline, to get you invested in buying tickets or subscribing to whatever provider, to see what is going to happen next is the focus. And it's working. Putting on meaningless matches just for the sake of putting on matches is what they did for years, and it was boring.
I work at an arcade and we have tv's that play sports above the dining area. I happened to look up today and had to do a double take because I saw JD McDonagh in the audience at a bowling game that was playing on one of our tv's. Felt very surreal.
Rhea Ripley is the best thing WWE has going for it. Seriously, I like Cody, LA Knight, Orton, Priest, etc… but Mami is the main reason I watch Raw. I rarely watch SD! I usually watch recap vids for SD! Great content. Love this channel.

I was at the show, and it was fantastic. One thing to consider, too, is that the Cleveland humidity was brutal that day, so they may have taken down the actual wrestling down a notch for the sake of the performers. But, man, what phenomenal storytelling across the board.
I totally missed John Cena sitting next to Stephanie McMahon good eye.
Another great review!!! FINALLY someone agrees with me, priest vs Gunther was my absolute favorite match of the night. All my friends say it wasn’t. Just another great PLE and god I love wrestling.
Love the emmy. Really ties the room together
So lucky to be there live. Such a consequential show with so many firsts
Question, what was the crowd like live. Cause in some shots you hear people chanting on the broadcast but see everyone just sitting there doing nothing
Solid show, solid thumbnail, solid review. Solid weekend.
I'm digging the elvis presley figurine and what looks like a velvet peacock painting on the wall looks like my place
You outdid yourself with the video wrap around. The grumpy Brian Zane watching the Pay-per-view was hilarious. Great work.
Roman's theme is his WM 40 Night 2 theme, they may have just brought it back for the return but probably not for normal appearances. I think the theme was perfect except for the fact it was too long at the beginning.
Update on this post, it seems to be his current Face theme.
Did you notice the Summer 97' attire homage
Punk / Hart
Drew / Taker
Seth / KBK
He didn't catch one single reference to the Taker/Hart HBK ref match, because there were tons of callbacks to it the entire match.
Flea Market Cornette isn't that sharp.
Thank you Brian for making my 30 min lunch so enjoyable :)
I never thought a stadium show would’ve came to Cleveland and the atmosphere live was ELECTRIC. this was an amazing show with twists and turns and that return of Roman would’ve blown the roof off browns stadium if we had one haha this past weekend is an experience i’ll never forget.
“Stupid Sabu pants” was the line of the night
Michael Cole really hating Jeff had me dying. He's just like "kick his ass!"
Turns out Cole is really good without Vince telling him what to say. Oh My was the cringiest thing I’ve ever heard.
My friend and I were able to get tickets the Sunday before, was my first ever stadium show and I dont think I will ever the feeling I had during this event. Just an insane atmosphere. Lol we were in the section shouting "we can't see shit". That light was blinding
This was in my hometown and I had an absolute blast the whole weekend, best wrestling show I've ever been to.
Top 3 show of the year between WM N2 and a coin flip between Dynasty and Revolution. Awesome show and I basically loved every match and match result
If I had to pick between Dynasty and Revolution I’d go with the latter. Personally enjoyed more from that show than Dynasty (and 3 of my top ten MOTY occurred at Revolution)
The way it pans to you watching the tv is top tier comedy 😂 the first time it did I about fell out of my chair 🤣.
I'm ready for the inevitable "Custody of Carlito" or CoC match, between the former members of The Judgment Day.
More like the "Custody Of Naughty DOMinik" (the acronym works well in the post-PG era too)
R Truth on a forklift match for the rights to judgement day
Summer Slam being 2 days (3 days really cause the SmackDown before) next year excites me. If you bring in music acts in the day and wrestling at night you have a hell of an event. Triple H was hinting at that and even my non wrestling friends said they'd go to it.
Not next year, SS doesn't go to two nights until 2026.
I hope on Friday they remind us that post-Mania 40, Heyman relayed Roman's order that Cody was off limits because a lot of people seem to have forgotten it

OH YOU DIDNT KNOW?
YOU DONT HAVE TO CALL NOBODYYYYYYYY!
lol that happens to my cousin in law. He’s got a bad shoulder and sometimes it pops out of place if he even moves it wrong. Next thing you know *boom boom boom* buddy slams his shoulder on the wall and he’s back to action. Shoutout Cody 🫡
Did anyone else notice Rhea went from crying to that maniacal smile/laugh she do after all her title matches?
Literally everthing I wanted to happen, happened, so no complaints at all.
I'm especially happy that both the King and Queen of the ring won their matches and titles.
Arn: you got friends
Cody: i hope you’re talking about Brock
Arn: *winks
Brock Anderson shows up
Cody: aww c’mon Arn, not YOUR Brock! 😒
Lethal Weapon 4 not 2 , and it was at the last 20 minutes. I also think that it was Jet Li's introduction to the American audience...after Green Hornet (original) and Black Mask.
He popped his shoulder in Lethal Weapon 2, too. He used it to get out of a straight jacket.
@@manos7469 oh yeah, like when Danny Golver in the lethal movies had the bombs placed at his home , like the toilet scene. He always had the short end of the stick lol.
Yeah.. good call
Was it me or was Charles Montgomery Punk blown up and Drew had to slow down for him?
Phil's been garbage since 2022. His AEW matches last year were crap. i really wish Trips wasn't so hell-bent on "making things right" with him.
And the "friendship bracelet" angle is so stupid. Cranky Mediocre Punk DOES understand that he can just make another bracelet, right? I can see it now…Punk finally beats Drew at Survivor Series with the bracelet on the line, only for Drew to be all "ha-ha, that's not the bracelet i took, that's a copy I made! Keep MY bracelet close to your heart, you piece of crap!"
Seriously, if Phil would retire and kick McAfee off of commentary, I would be *so* happy.
@@Jessica_Roth I agree 100% with everything you just said. McAfee is so obnoxious and Punk is the worst.
My two biggest complaints:
1) You have an eight hour show and the big in-ring debut of the Wyatts STILL has to get bumped to the next night's RAW?
About point 2, he won by outside interference. That's not really him being proven right, is it?
I like Cody's entrance, especially when Arn talked to Cody, which brought back some great memories of Arn's matches against Dusty Rhodes
