@@MrBeardsley that's how the career mode in Attitude worked. You started out only working House Shows, and then work your way up to TV. As you go along more fans star fillling the stands
This was one of my last Game Boy games, and I had a classmate who had it too. Definitely remember playing 2-player mode with the link cable on the basketball court outside our school one singular time in fall '98
I loved my Game Boy. I was so fun and brings back memories of a great time of my 90's high school days. I had WWF Superstars 2. Thank you Wrestling Bios.
6:35 Considering part of Hogan's lawsuit against Vince Russo post 2000 Bash At The Beach was about Russo mentioning Hogan's baldness I find this plausible.
One of my favorite TH-cam channels giving a shoutout to another one of my other favorite channels from a completely different niche interest (retro gaming handhelds) was not on my bingo card for August. Also, the Miyoo Mini Plus is an awesome little device.
I had WWF Superstars, and it always struck me as odd how Ted DeBiase's theme in the game sounded nothing like it was supposed to sound. Was there some kind of music rights issue that prevented Rare from doing a chiptune version of the song, so they had to come up with a totally different one?
Can i PLEASE emphasize, and I'm sure others can relate! Brother your channel brings so much relief and joy to my stressful heart. I even made a playlist with your videos to sleep to. Thank you brother
I used to have WWF Road to WrestleMania on the Nintendo GameBoy Advance handheld system back when I was a kid in the early 2000s. The gameplay was hard and it is random when you trying to perform a move on your opponent. But I had good times playing with that game from my childhood.
The WWF Game Boy games were a guilty pleasure of mine. They weren't great, but playing wrestling games on road trips as a kid was fantastic. I'm not afraid to admit that the nostalgia factor is one of the only reasons I can still play these today. Oh, and also having a decent retro handheld to throw the ROM on
Superstars 2 was pretty good from what I remember basically had the same exact controls as Superstars the arcade game. Its the only gameboy wrestler game I liked
I had WrestleMania 2000 which also ran on my monochrome Game Boy Pocket - the character models looked terrible. It was almost impossible to tell them apart without the colour. Hard to believe the character models looked better in 1991! You were right to highlight the music though - those tracks were the best thing about it.
The amount of content you put out is insane and it's all high quality. Not that one see it but you need to take a break before you burn out. I was hoping after reliving the war. You would do a show going into the 2000s you can call it "when the war was won."
I had Attitude - that was it for handhelds. All my other wwe games were on home console. But I remember thinking Attitude was fun for short spells. My Nana got it for me for Xmas. Have not played it since 2001 mind you... sold my gbc and the games a long time ago
One of my favorite wrestling tubers shouting out one of my favorite gaming tubers in Retro Game Corps pretty awesome Miyoo Mini Plus is awesome for gb games tho I've upgraded to RG35XXSP I'm a sucker for GBA SP it had to be done I've been collecting these handhelds for awhile now it's still amazing to play Smackdown 1&2 on the go then switch to WWF Betrayal haha.
When the PSP came along, these sorts of downgraded Game Boy ports became irrelevant instantly, both because of its own WWE games being 3D as well as being able to emulate PS1 ones. But they were a moment in time.
Ryan this brings back so many happy memories, my poor mum who didn’t drive, had to catch two buses in the rain just to get me the original wwf game boy game. I absolutely loved it !
I had WWF Superstars on the Gameboy, I always found it weird that Hogan's theme is sequenced wrongly. The start of his theme comes in the middle of their version. I played that game loads as a kid though
I vividly remember first playing Superstars on the Gameboy, of a kid that i knew, in a workingmen's club 😂 i loved it and went on to own it myself. I also had king of the ring and convinced myself it was good. Truth be told, i would have played ANY wrestling game as a kid. Wrestling games were the holy grail for me.
Retro handhelds are a godblessing for retro gaming thats easily accessible, I never regretted buying a Miyoo Mini, endless fun with it and slam masters is a delight to play on it. When the retro consoles that can emulate ps2 become cheaper I can't wait to replay Here Comes the Pain and Smackdown vs Raw 2006 again
I have always been fascinated by the fact that the sprites for WCW Mayhem and WWF Betrayal had pretty much the same idle animation. It's like Wayward Productions looked at that game and went "let's do that!"
I remember WrestleMania 2000 on Gameboy color. I beat that game In a afternoon using Ken shamrock. I wasn't a big wrestling fan and didn't know much about Ken shamrock but that game was good
I'm surprised you didn't mention that WWF Betrayal uses the exact same engine as WCW Mayhem, for some odd reason. You do mention you felt the same while playing them, but I wonder if the connection was made.
WWF Superstars 2 My first wrestling game on the GB The Mountie was my Go To Character. I still play it once in awhile for the memories of being at my grandma's house during school break vacation. The bestest!
I have most of these games in my personal collection. I played them for a few minutes each and quality varies. Let's not forget that two Fire Pro Wrestling games were released on GBA and they were released outside Japan for the first time in the series in general.
I only had Road To Wrestlemania, I was so close to winning the WWF title when the batteries run out before I could save it, so that never got played again lol
I have a fond spot in my heart for WWF Betrayal. Such a random piece of WWF related media, but as a kid, I loved any and everything WWF slapped their logo on
10:30 - Wild that Human tried, for all intents and purposes, an unofficial FirePro game on the Game Boy. And this was about one year after making the very first FirePro game, Fire Pro Wrestling Combination Tag on the PC Engine (AKA the Turbo Grafx-16) in 1989. Really nice bit of history here.
I have fond memories of the first gameboy game, it must've been the 2nd or 3rd game I owned for it, so I played it quite a lot. It's also very easily cheesable, just go outside the ring and start brawling with your opponent on the apron, no moving up and down, just spam piledrivers and you're good, easy win. Also, who's the final boss on Betrayal, that story has "It was me Austin!" written all over it for me.
Road to WMX8 and Survivor Series were so much fun when I was 8. I think I was on the edge of what was acceptable age wise for those games. I bet I’d react to these same games as you do in my age now
I keep my original gameboy unmodded for one reason In the few days we get sun In Ireland I cannot make out my phone In direct sunlight the game boy has a reflective LCD non backlit screen that looks amazing In sunny weather
Backlight mods don't make it hard to see in sunlight. The reason your phone is hard to see in sunlight is because the sun is brighter than the light your phone's pixels emit. The Gameboy screen does not have that issue because the pixels do not emit any light, they absorb it
Hell yeah I love this topic. I grew up on these wrestling Gameboy games and I knew they were crappy with repetitive music and gameplay, but they’re oddly charming. Warzone, Attitude and ECW Hardcore Revolution were all essentially re-skins running on the same engine. Also, Red and yellow Goldust looks more like Iron Man. Wrestlemania 2000 felt a little more polished than Attitude, but man that ring was gigantic. They also went lazy with Kane and coloured his entire body red, even the exposed arm. WWF Betrayal was also using the same engine as WCW Mayhem, and even the latter feels more like a brawler than a Wrestling game. WWF Wrestlemania on GBA is pretty terrible. You stand there kicking over and over because the opponent forever reverses any grapple you apply. WWE Wrestlemania X8 was my favourite out of all, dumb AI but it was impressive for its time
I had a Game Boy and a few games, but quickly realized I wasn’t a portable gamer guy (and still am not). I just didn’t leave the house that much and when we vacationed by a lake in the summer, I preferred swimming, fishing, and reading. So, the Game Boy got packed up and rarely used.
Wow, thanks for that little detour down memory lane. I think I still own my old Gameboy including the 1993 KOTR-game and the 1994 RAW-game. I played them a lot as a kid but yeah they had poor gameplay. But as a kid I was happy.
WWF Superstars 2 might just be the best one due to how accurate it was to real life with the commentators visible and the style of the ring being accurate.
The first wwf super stars took the cake.. they all look like the wrestlers the music it was awesome. super wrestlemania was originally supposed to be called wwf superstars.
