Hi ...I know this review is old...but how are the lights still working for you? I just watched this video and got pre-black friday starter kit for 30 bucks. Picking up today. good review
great video, THANKS. I've been on the bubble to purchase a setup for when we are away and the traditional mechanical light timers don't work as planned if there is a power outage for any extended time.
Right, and even when he plugged it in the wall Not that we don't know how to do that. The point is to show everything. Other than that, the video is informative.
I have one of these kits currently being shipped, and thought I would do a little pre-planning/investigation etc., and came across this video. Just got a good chuckle because when you were testing your siri settings, "Hey Siri..." my phone, which was in my hand at the time, searching for the Philips app, responded to your request :). Or at least it tried to. She didn't understand what you mean of course, but it gave me a good laugh.
Does it have to be connected to the router itself? 'coz i cant seem to make it work on my wall Ethernet plug. And can you control the lights(on/off) when you are away or you need to be in the same wifi/internet connection? Thanks
Mine is connected to a wireless access point, so it should work through an ethernet plug. Are you going from a wall ethernet port to a switch, and the switch to the router? Yes, once the hub is working, you can control the lights from anywhere (inside or outside your home).
I believe you have to have the hub to allow any sort of external connectivity (Alexa, app control outside the house, etc.) With just the bulb, I think you can set up individual bulbs, but I never had the chance to try, since this kit was the first set I bought.
As far as I'm aware, yes. I think the lights can be used on their own, but to get full functionality and interactivity with other services like Alexa and Google Home, the bridge is necessary. For $60 (or less), hard to say no when the bulbs are as expensive as they are on their own.
stephbenitesx help I have hue, and both the echo and home, they work pretty much the same, only the Google home, you can change the color of the hue, ' ok Google turn kitchen light orange' echo can't do that, but echo can control wemo plugs, Google home can't
Okay this video was great! Just the issue had with the name u need to set name group in hue app and then make new group name in Alexa app and add the hue group and ur all set!
Yes. As long as your wifi signal is strong enough to reach both places, it doesn't matter what room you place them in. You can set up new rooms in the Hue app
You can, and i do have some. The issue is that edison is wired so that the phase is in the middle and neutral is on the screw outside part. As bayonet can be ether way as it has recessed pins and the outside is not connected you could end up with the outside of the eddison being live depending on what way you put it in.
That depends on your wifi signal. I think the lights work in a mesh, also, so every light relays to the next one, if it's outside the range of your wifi connection.
hi, it actually no, the app can be off, the bridge is the one that keeps the instrucions and you can schedule color hours or on and off at daily hours, is the Bridge that got all instructions, so you ask Siri with your voice, or the app by Philips with touch instructions, but works awesome but definetly wifi is needed always on
It's yellow! Or soft white if you will. Am I right?just bought a starter kit like yours and 2 more bulbs and a switch from Amazon. I feel like I bought the wrong ones? I need bright whites (or cooler /daylight whites)
DeTodoaLoTico ya I bought some innr coloured bulbs which are quite a bit cheaper than the overpriced Philips colour bulbs and they work in exactly the same way and are apparently just as good as the Philips in terms of brightness and colour but they're cheaper
DeTodoaLoTico oh yeah, looks like it's UK only.. there are some other Philips hue alternatives like hive and tp link bulbs but you'd have to check whether they work with the hue bridge and stuff
Yes.. the do it turn off and on the light. If you power of the light with the switch it resets lamp to default values. I'm doing a review about hue and some accessories. Coming up within a week.
Hi, actually no, it will always be a normal bulb, but if you set it RED or Green, and someone switches, well is set to 100% normal warm bulb, but you set back to your color with siri in a second, its awesome, you just cant stop using it, there is NO failure found yet, HUE is Huge!
Thanks for the vid :) If you purchase the white starter kid, would the individually purchased coloured bulbs work in conjunction with the white start kit as well?
Yes. That's exactly what I did. I've picked up 5 colored bulbs, 1 Bloom light, 1 Go light, and 2 Iris lights (all colored) and I use them with the same hub as the original 3 white bulbs.
Our canned lights have a traditional light bulb base, so we've been using that size/style of bulb in them all along. As long as your lights have the same base and have room for the bulbs, should be fine. I love it because it adds a dimmer where we didn't have one before.
The one downside to Hue vs. controlling lights via a smart switch is that Hue bulbs will not work if someone turns off the physical switch and electricity is no longer reaching the bulb.
Ive just purchased Philips Hue bulb. does not dim or change colour. App says the bulbs are not reachable however they do turn on and off but not if i asked siri. Horrible experience
@3:19 it was rediculously simple..... BECAUSE YOU SKIPPED ALL THE IMPORTANT PARTS! Jumpin Jesus. When you go into the app (where did you get the app? how did you install it? Does the phone have to be connected to your home router when you do all this? Does this all use cell data?) and then the app connects to the "1 new HUE bridge found"... (how did it find the bridge that is still sitting in the box, because you SKIPPED the step where you set up the bridge. Is it Wireless? Where do I connect that Network wire to, do I connect it to the network port on my laptop? If so then what do I do? If not where tdo I connect it? To my router? I plugged it in the WAN port because all my LAN ports are full but that didn't work) When they say something is better in nothing.... no it isn't. Not at all. Also, no fault of yours but a pox on Philips for their horrible marketing. Because the kit uses the word HUE, Santa assumed that meant Colour so SANTA paid the $200 for the kit and guess what, two months later when Santa gave me the kit we open it and find out that HUE means white not colour. GRR
wow I was thinking the except same thing. I really have no idea how to get this stupid hue light working. it's supposed to be a relaxing thing and I'm stressed to the max
Sorry, I definitely skipped a few steps there. The bridge has to be plugged into a LAN port on your router and into the wall for power, and your phone has to be connected to your wifi. The app is called "Philips Hue" and is available in the Apple and Android App Stores. Once you install the app for the first time, it should walk you through setting up the bridge and provide options for adding lights afterward.
Do these have a sleep timer function? I always forget to turn off the light (when reading) at bedtime but wake up because of it at four am. Any help is welcomed.
hi, yes it does, you use HUE app to set the hours to fade out to sleep or wake you up AM with 100% light in the morning, (I use it) but it works on holidays too XD, in the morning if you leave on a daily basis they get off at specific hour too (you set the time and minutes) so you gotta be quick AM, they still will work as a normal bulb though getting back to normal using the wall switch, the HUE is awesome but it requires Wifi always on, still an amazing system
+Joe Hornyd yes, I think you can have 50 devices on one hub. I've got 8 bulbs, 2 Iris lights, 1 Bloom light, 2 wireless dimmers, and a motion sensor with no problems
Hooked it up, not that hard, got the three blue lights, downloaded the app. Told it to find my hub, It couldn't find it. Sent the last hour looking through the internet for problem. So far a real pain in the ass.
It does work with Google Home. I purchased mine a week ago.
Hi ...I know this review is old...but how are the lights still working for you? I just watched this video and got pre-black friday starter kit for 30 bucks. Picking up today. good review
I use the color ambience bulbs more than the white ones, but they’re all still going strong!
Most simple straight forward review I have seen. Thank you
A19 refers to the shape and size of the bulb. E26 refers to the type of base.
Ahh, of course. Thanks for clearing that up!
I never knew! The more you know!
Thank you
Is E26 the norm?
really wanted to see how you set up the bridge/hub and other connections..
We got a white starter kit and a surge protector for free in some sort of energy saving promotion, and I really like the bulbs.
great video, THANKS.
I've been on the bubble to purchase a setup for when we are away and the traditional mechanical light timers don't work as planned if there is a power outage for any extended time.
Great video! Just wondering, does the bridge need to be connected via ethernet to your router at all times? Thanks!
Yes it have to be connected to the router all the time!. I'm doing a review about hue and some accessories. Coming up within a week.
Would of like to have seen how the Hub hooks up to a Router too ...
Right, and even when he plugged it in the wall Not that we don't know how to do that. The point is to show everything. Other than that, the video is informative.
You seem to be skipping many steps that I am going through on mine (although Android).
Im trying to learn how to install it and you're in such a rush, Why?
out of stock a lot in the uk. looking to get this as a starter to go with echo dot
If I’ve got two light bars for two different rooms for two different people, would I need only one hue but two different phones can change the lights?
Hi, what is the Apps name to download? I’m stuck but thanks for the video..
All I have is a Philips Hue white bulbo A19 and nothing else ? Can I use just that ? Do I need an App to make the lights work with Alexa ?
I believe you have to have the hub to allow any sort of external connectivity (Alexa, app control outside the house, etc.)
With just the bulb, I think you can set up individual bulbs, but I never had the chance to try, since this kit was the first set I bought.
I got the Echo Dot and Phillips Hue A19 Starter kit as Christmas gift from my daughter and son inlaw, can i use bulb on front porch?
Just to be clear, all you need is 1 "bridge" to get into HUE, then buy color bulbs/strips and connect it to that bridge?
As far as I'm aware, yes. I think the lights can be used on their own, but to get full functionality and interactivity with other services like Alexa and Google Home, the bridge is necessary. For $60 (or less), hard to say no when the bulbs are as expensive as they are on their own.
Alexa works with Hue lights? And so does Google Home? Trying to pick one or the other. What do you suggest?
stephbenitesx help I have hue, and both the echo and home, they work pretty much the same, only the Google home, you can change the color of the hue, ' ok Google turn kitchen light orange' echo can't do that, but echo can control wemo plugs, Google home can't
Rich Bird it can now
can you change the color schemes with this one"? like is it multicolor?
The kit I showed only does white light (soft white, more yellow). You can add multicolor bulbs to the system, but they’re not included.
Will these be enough to light up a small-medium sized bedroom?
Okay this video was great! Just the issue had with the name u need to set name group in hue app and then make new group name in Alexa app and add the hue group and ur all set!
Can I put one bulb in the bed room and the other bulb in the living room?
Yes. As long as your wifi signal is strong enough to reach both places, it doesn't matter what room you place them in. You can set up new rooms in the Hue app
Jordan Keyes cool! Thanks!
Can you access this from overseas?
I like them .
Do you happen to know if they do a B22 version for us in the UK ?
Andrew Joy You can get adapters which work great. That's what I'm doing with my current hue lights.
You can, and i do have some. The issue is that edison is wired so that the phase is in the middle and neutral is on the screw outside part.
As bayonet can be ether way as it has recessed pins and the outside is not connected you could end up with the outside of the eddison being live depending on what way you put it in.
How far away can you be from the light and have it still work? Are the lights pretty bright? Look kinda dim in the video can’t tell😛
That depends on your wifi signal. I think the lights work in a mesh, also, so every light relays to the next one, if it's outside the range of your wifi connection.
If you connect the bulbs to, let's say your ceiling lights, does the light switch need to be constantly on, in order for the light to work?
Yes, unless you buy their connected switch. I've got one of those in a kit with another light, so I'll be doing a video about that soon.
Jordan Keyes oh, I see. Thanks!
no there is probably another switch in the bulb. If anything its using minimal energy to maintain a wifi connection but I imagine its not very much
also do you know if these would work in a circuit with a dimmable switch, i imagine they would but not sure
Do these also change color or is that another type of bulb or starter kit?
That's the other Hue bulbs, the color bulbs. These just do white, and only one shade of white.
On the two Philips Hue LED lights were they soft white or daylight?
Can you set timers on the lights to turn on ?
Yes, there are routines you can set up in the app
Can you adjust the color of the bulb from soft white to daylight? Thanks
Not with the white only bulbs but maybe with the other bulbs like color and white grading bulbs
Are E26 sockets in america the same as E27 in europe? Ive never seen e26 here.
Does the app have to be running 24 x 7 in order for the functions to work? Seems that way.
hi, it actually no, the app can be off, the bridge is the one that keeps the instrucions and you can schedule color hours or on and off at daily hours, is the Bridge that got all instructions, so you ask Siri with your voice, or the app by Philips with touch instructions, but works awesome but definetly wifi is needed always on
I like the brige
Hi, The Bridge is connected to the Router with WiFi. But how are the bulbs connected to the Bridge? Also Wifi or another Frequency?
I can't decide whether I should buy these or the colour bulbs!
just ordered mine, cant wait!
could you change del color of the lights or is just white?
hello how u doing today? I have a question about the Philips hue bridge. those the Philips hue bridge comes wireless?
Hi, Can I use these bulbs with Apple's Home & Siri? I tried and not having success. Thanks
katiegrav it says in the video!!!!
It's yellow! Or soft white if you will. Am I right?just bought a starter kit like yours and 2 more bulbs and a switch from Amazon. I feel like I bought the wrong ones? I need bright whites (or cooler /daylight whites)
so all in all how long did it all take and down load
I am getting amazon alexa dot. if i get these bulbs I need the bridge as well?
Dayz_legend yes Alexa will communicate with the bridge thus using Alexa to turn on the lights via the bridge
can you use and modify these without a phone?
I have switch inside on wall that turns on front porch light. Can i use that with my hue and alexa?
Excellent review. Very informative. Crazy cool product.
Does the bridge works with any other smart bulb led brands?
DeTodoaLoTico ya I bought some innr coloured bulbs which are quite a bit cheaper than the overpriced Philips colour bulbs and they work in exactly the same way and are apparently just as good as the Philips in terms of brightness and colour but they're cheaper
+Jamie Bergin do you have an amazon link to see em
DeTodoaLoTico I'm in the UK, but these are the ones I ordered www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N5G9WNA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0GAXybNX4NDC7
+Jamie Bergin Innr ok, I thought it was a typo. I couldn't fi d those in the US store, are those uk only?
DeTodoaLoTico oh yeah, looks like it's UK only.. there are some other Philips hue alternatives like hive and tp link bulbs but you'd have to check whether they work with the hue bridge and stuff
What happens if you have one in the room and someone uses the light switch instead of the app? Does that mess with it at all?
Yes.. the do it turn off and on the light.
I'm looking for the app in the Play Store. Of the Hue apps, I don't see any from Philips. What app am I supposed to download?
Thanks for the vid :)

you can use with goggle home to fix colour

I love it because it adds a dimmer where we didn't have one before.
Just an FYI "A19" refers to the Bulb Size. It'a an "A" Lamp with a Diameter of 19 eights of an inch.
Can you control it from anywhere?
What if I get this for my spouse and they set it up but I want it on my phone too? Can I put it on my phone too?
can this be in daylight white color ?
Do you show how to actually set this up?
The one downside to Hue vs. controlling lights via a smart switch is that Hue bulbs will not work if someone turns off the physical switch and electricity is no longer reaching the bulb.
Do they work with 3-way switches?
How do the bulbs hold up outside?
will work at Europe?
How do i make my lights play music
The very short intro song. What is it called ? Thank you.
do they have the 5000k color version?
Found one on Clarence at Walmart for 21!
I always want philliphs hue
ok now I need to see what that watch was that has Amazon's Alex on it.
Could you change the colors
can i connect with wifi the hub? wifi certified.....how?
Ive just purchased Philips Hue bulb. does not dim or change colour. App says the bulbs are not reachable however they do turn on and off but not if i asked siri. Horrible experience

Would like To see a visual on actually installing the bridge i.e. where you attach to router. Computer newbie here. Otherwise pretty good video.
Can you control 6 bulbs with one bridge? Plz let me know. Thx
+Joe Hornyd yes, I think you can have 50 devices on one hub. I've got 8 bulbs, 2 Iris lights, 1 Bloom light, 2 wireless dimmers, and a motion sensor with no problems
Does this work with Alexa?
Axis 01:15
I just set up mine using the same starter kit. I am already dying for new Homekit-enable accessories lol
I'm old and wanted to know how and where to "PLUG" in the ethernet cable ......
Debi Goldstein one end in the Philips hub, and the other end in the back of your internet wireless router
it should also work with a harmony remote
Dude that's on my to-buy list so thanks for the overview.
I set up my hearing aid to when it turned on, it turns on my Hue lights in my bathroom via IFTTT. Too cool
so they don't come with color? thought they were all the same...m guess not:(
The kit I bought is the cheapest one. They have more expensive starter kits with color bulbs, but they're $120-200, I think.
I’m definitely gonna order one today
great price easy to set up.
Does this work on Android?
Yes it does and you can control your Philips Hue lights using Google Now as well
Didn't even show me how to set it up.
How many random youtube commentors does it take to screw in a light bulb?
No, it doesn’t ... I’m not tech savvy and really was looking for a step by step video, including connecting the Hub to the Router, etc..
Are they miked? Aw' I wanted COMPLETELY TRACKED!
I dont like how yellow the lights are.... i cant find lights that would be bright to light up my whole room....
This didn't work because it said that the lights were unreachable! PLZ HELP!!
Presumably
Hooked it up, not that hard, got the three blue lights, downloaded the app. Told it to find my hub, It couldn't find it. Sent the last hour looking through the internet for problem. So far a real pain in the ass.
Nice video
I like you video and thank you for make me spend $70 lol
That's what I'm about to do LOL I've been reading about this Hue thing for not less than 3 weeks and I think I'm ready to take the step
you should spend the money on a grammar course
I have about 1200 hue white and color bulbs ...but I don't have this stater up kit ...so if anyone want to buy bulbs than contact me
👍
You need a LAN line?!?! That sucks...
Very helpful
hey great video
Lmao I was watching this and you said hey Siri and my Siri went off
