Good stuff Rey! I got my first Hue kit a few months back and I’m surprised I like it. It lost points for requiring a hub and being expensive but it checks a lot of other boxes. Plus there are some good accessories.
Hue has been working great so far. With my home being pretty well lit with light fixtures aplenty, I’m finding less use cases in my personal experience. Guess I need to buy more lamps 🤷♂️
I have the smaller bulbs for my beside lights and grouped them together in HomeKit. I think these bulbs only make sense in lamps as the price doesn’t justify over smart switches. I have their light strip for ambient up lighting in my kitchen and it’s very reliable but could be brighter!
HomeTechReviews Agreed. Smart light switches gets the nod for value but I do like the option to dim lamps and change color temp when equipped with Hue bulbs but it’s like a solution in search of a problem 🤔
Rey G a great option to dim lamps is Lutrons plug in dimmer you can connect two lights to it works great. Or of course their dimmable switches as well.
That was a time we needed to look out for each other, and honestly, we still do. Thanks for watching ‘til the end and for taking the time to comment ☺️
@@ReyG_HKSH i do have a question though. my hue light only came with 3 scenes out the box. i thought that if i updated the bulb, it would give me more scenes like you have @13:01 but that wasn't the case. how did you get all of those scenes? also, i cant edit the colors for the scenes i have and i cant create new ones with different shades. every time i move the cursor on the pallet, it goes right back to the center making it so i can set it to 1 color.
First time user ( probable): Can i still continue to use the physical switch along with occasional use through the app? others in the family will still use physical switch while I can just use through app.. Does it need Bluetooth switched on ?
If the switch is off then the lights can't come on. You can only turn the light on with the app if the switch itself is on, but you can (and I believe it's the default setting) set the lights to come on automatically after power loss, which means lights switches will work normally. If the lights are off with the app, turning the switch off and back on will get the light to come on. There's a button you can buy that will clip to the switch locking it in the on position. It can be set to work the same as the switch, just in button form now, and the app wil always work. But an in-wall smart switch is the most seamless solution.
So after install these Philip light, What happen to the physical light switch on the cable? Do I have to leave that physical switch to “ON”? If so, when I tell Philip light to turn off, will it still draw power ? Just curious…. Never use one before. Thanks.
Yes you’ll need to leave the physical switch on. Or, if you can also use a smart switch or smart plug for lamps if you want to also turn off the power going to those lights. But you’ll need to turn both on. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! 🙏
I have quite a few Hue bulbs and one thing I do with the colored ones on the main level is turn them to red when my Aqara system is armed, with a Homekit automation. This reminds anyone opening a door that has an Aqara sensor on it to turn the alarm off first. Also, bright red light shining from inside a home looks creepy and may deter any would be burglar lol. Other than that, yeah, I kind of regret my Hue purchases lol.
Rey G Not so much the expense but more that a lot of them don’t work as expected all the time. About 90% of my house’s lights are Hue. Those that aren’t is because Hue doesn’t make a light bulb in that style. All my Hue bulbs are connected to Hue dimmers and I have three Hue bridges running to control this “mess” lol. What I’ve noticed is sometimes I have to press the dimmer switch a few times before it completes the task. If I have multiple Hues in a group (e.g. chandelier) with an automation for it, 5/6 bulbs would perform the automation (turn on 100% when I arrive home) but one bulb may only turn on to 1%. The example with the Aqara above does that too. One colored bulb in the group would be 100% on red and the other white and/or a different dimness setting. I have a scene in HomeKit that will turn all the assigned lights to red for when this happens but it’s supposed to work on automation when Aqara arms. Minor annoyances that shouldn’t occur in a pricey system. Perhaps too much interference in the Zigbee channel but I’m moving soon and agreed to leave all the Hue stuff behind with the new owners. Next go around will be all smart switches (Your fav, Leviton Decora 👍). I have a few now that caused some connection issues in the past but I figured out the problem and they’re great now.
Love my Philips hue lights, expecially the hue white ambient as they give better whites than the colour bulbs. But 2 things need changing, 1, the brightness is lower than virtually every other smart bulb, 2m the price.
The white ambiance lights are really the bulbs that interest me the most as I find them more practical with uses throughout our home. I’ll need to try out more smart bulbs to compare the brightness.

ModernDayTech I think having a hub is nice because it creates less traffic on your WiFi network. So a couple more wires for more reliability!
I actually like the system but not enough use cases in my home. Plus the individual bulb prices (especially for the color) are a bit ridiculous.
I can't really fault Hue for being rock-solid in my case. I'm gradually replacing wifi bulbs with Hue for this reason.

As I am watching the backlog of videos, just a kudos for the smart comment on being wise with masks during COVID.
That was a time we needed to look out for each other, and honestly, we still do. Thanks for watching ‘til the end and for taking the time to comment ☺️
Thanks for the informative reviews regarding smart devices with HomeKit.
Thanks for watching! 🙏
this is exactly what i was looking for, thanks for the video
Glad you found it useful, thanks for watching!

Do you have to put this bridge in your wifi router or is this not necessary?
These will need access to your network and the internet so yes, the bridge/hub will need to be connected to a router. Thanks for watching 🙏
So like I don’t really get it. Do I need a fancy lamp thingy, or can I just plug one of these Philips Hue into any lamp sockets? 😅
You can use these bulbs anyplace you’d use regular bulbs.
@@ReyG_HKSH Thanks for the clarification, really appreciate it! And awesome video mate ;)

Jonathan Itin That’s a great idea! Why the buyer’s remorse? Expense?

I’m a huge fan of their accessories, but their lighting leaves a lot to be desired.
myHomeKithome Lighting is nice but just expensive for what they are.
I just hate never ending background music. Couldn’t watch it to the end
