Agree!! Check out "that's alright momma by Jerry" Wow simply wow! I play guitar and Jerry isn't a conventional tunning sort a guy His tunning goes beyond dropped D etc He is a true master! Chet and Jerry live shows are really good also 👍
Jerry was a grade A fantastic guitarist!! One of Nashville's greats, back in his day no one could touch him. He laid the foundation for modern day country rock. RIP Jerry!
Whatever he plays there's pure clean tone, no other sounds from the strings except the notes. Distinct, rythmic and exciting harmonics in most songs...he was the master of them all! Hans Bäckström
Amen, It is a shame that these country stations don't properly honor the true greats in country music. Its rrae to hear a Jerry Reed song where i live, or even a Johy Cash song. I told my friends that he died, and they asked who is he. That one hurt. Jerry Reed was the man, a guy who I looked up to, and these punk kids don't even know who he is.
I once saw an interview with Chet where he said "most people don't realize how good a guitar player Jerry is, and he doesn't realize it either." I always thought that pretty well summed up Jerry's great talent and humble self-deprecating attitude. I will miss him!
one of the last real old school country artists and a man who's contributions to the music industry will only now be realized like so many great musicians that died before him. God blessed us for giving us the opportunity to listen to his music and expierience his talent. Now his pain is over and he can shine in the light of the Lord.
Jerry Reed was THE best guitarist in my opinion. And to borrow some words from one of his songs, Jerry, "Your a legend to the old men, a hero to the child" :) RIP Jerry, you'll be missed dearly.
I listened to him play guitar pretty much all my life. He was, is and always will be a great inspiration to me. I loved those Bandit movies too! R.I.P. Snowman.
He was the best man, he had so much fire in his playing, and his playing could cover any mood or feel, It amazes people when they ask who my favorite guitar player is and i say Jerry Reed. I turned a buddy of mine on to some of his stuff and he called me up that night and said hey man you wanna buy my guitar.LOL
It's a shame that a whole generation grew up and only knew this great guitarist as, "that guy on Smokey and the Bandit"... I hear he isn't doing too well healthwise lately, so here's an extra prayer wishing him and his family well! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS GEM! :-D
Jerry Reed was a phenomenal guitarist and his portrayal of a football coach in "The Waterboy" was like every football coach I ever had. He was a great talent and a great entertainer.😄😄👍👍
im 27 ( why is this relevant ? ) never heard of him before. its allways good to discover good music. alot of great music in the world to be discovered, long live the internet :)
you can really see on his face that he's really enjoying playing this tune. Of all the people i've heard who've played this...they NEVER, NEVER get it the way jerry does. When Jerry plays it, its perfect :)
I've been reading these comments and... I don't know, yeah the video and sound quality here is so - so ,but it is a priceless video! Thanks for posting! I think Jerry still was playing wonderfully, just smokes thru the Claw here, great twist on the ending, I like!!! I come back to this video frequently, it is pure magic to watch Jerry in action!
I saw Jerry and Jeanie C Riley do a show in 1975, on our honeymoon in Lake Tahoe at the Sierra Tahoe Hotel Casino. Fabulous Show!! Incredible talent. We'll miss him too!
Jerry Reed IS the coolest guy! I met him on stage while tuning piano for a concert and shooting PR photos. Crystal Gale asked, "Who are you?", and Jerry quipped, "Honey, who does he look like he is?"
Jerry reed. the Guitar Man, wrote and played and made a hit of guitar man and played on the Elvis presley hit of his song! and then went on to star in so many films including smokey and the bandit, did this man not give so much enjoyement to so many people for so little reward!!
Eric Johnson worships the man-I still am amazed at how good he is and I count the chances I got to play with him and Chet Atkins some of the true blessings I've had in this life.
well said. Wastelander1972. i don't know if anybody can really play as good as jerry and chet...i know of homer & jethro..a good friend of mine gave me his original LP...good bless them all! RIP.
Here is a funny story about Jerry Reed. Jerry Chet Atkins and Glen Campbell all had offices in the same building in Nashville. Well. Jerry and Glenn were always kinda guitar rivals, they were always trying to out pick each other. One day Jery was passing by Chets office and he heard Chet playing this killer lick. He said, Chet you have to show me that lick. So Chet showed it to him. Jerry practised it all week and went streight to Glens office and just exploded it right in Glens face.
It's only now that the pop country stations remembered who the Guitar Man is... they've taken a short break from the American Idol shit they've been playing, played "EAST BOUND AND DOWN" gone home feeling content for remembering Mr. Reed. This, along with so many other great songs, prove Jerry was far better than "EAST BOUND" or "GOLDMINE" or even "WHEN YOU'RE HOT" .. he, along with Chet Atkins and Buck Rogers are the true guitar heros.
Says a lot Jerry could still play this well at his age-there is a curve that musicians go through, bad health and Jerry had his burden to bear in his last years
Like most true musicians, Jerry didn't need the limelite to enjoy his guitar. He was happiest when he was playing, didn't matter if it was backup, solo break, or singin' picker. Didn't take himself too seriously either. Although I don't think he ever played anything wrong twice, he would laugh when he missed it trying a particularly slick lick. Loved him from my H.S. days, miss him like crazy.
damn I've never heard this guy before but he's awesome! sorta like a country version of Tommy Emmanuel and equally catchy. I'm definitely going to look up more jerry reed vids now lol
Jerry Reed definitely had a style of his own and was great at it. It is true "when you're hot you're hot". Joe Maphis had the speed style, Merle Travis had the thumb style....They're gone now, but their music will live as long as this country....which, I might add, may not bee too long!!!!!
Love Lenny Breau,s tribute to 'THE CLAW" Check it out after this great track by Jerry. Heaven Jam with Chet, Jerry, Lenny, and Django. Now that's a party.
So old Glenn picked up his guitar and exploded it right back at him. Jerry said, so Glenn, when did Chet show you that lick? Glenn replied, he didn't, I showed it to him last week.
From what I read he was a great guy. Too bad the dam cigarettes got him. They got my Grandfather, my Dad, and I fear they'll get my brother. Anyway Jerry was a great musician and I enjoyed him in all the Smokey and the Bandit movies, yes even two and three.
Age did not get him....lifestyle did. He was about 65 years old in this video if it was 2002. All the members of the band Rush are early 60's NOW and are better then 40 years ago!! Carl Palmer (drummer) is 65 or 66 and google his 2015 drum solo. He takes care of himself. Lifestyle children. Remember that word. LIFESTYLE! Jackie Gleason lived to be only 71 and lifestyle took him.
What is your problem? You want to enjoy music or just issue statements and publish opinions? I suggest you just enjoy the music of brilliant musicians. You are right. Jerry Reed is a great performer. The best guitarist in the world was never born and never will be. Let us listen to music anyway.
Jerry Reed might be the coolest guy who ever lived.
Agree!!

Might be? No he definitely was and he is still the GOAT on guitar! IMO
Besides his stunnig music and personality, I will always remember him for his amazing performance in The Waterboy(1998).
Him and Steve McQueen
Honestly dude you are probably correct
Jerry was a grade A fantastic guitarist!!
One of Nashville's greats, back in his day no one could touch him. He laid the foundation for modern day country rock.
RIP Jerry!
yep, Brent Mason picks just like him. Jerry Reed was the man.
I agree. Jerry was untouchable and, imo unable to copy.
Whatever he plays there's pure clean tone, no other sounds from the strings except the notes. Distinct, rythmic and exciting harmonics in most songs...he was the master of them all!

How did he even come up with all this?! The Jerry Reed sound is unmistakable and forever in my heart as fucking dope.
Jerry Reed's guitar duets with Glenn Campbell,(a very underrated guitarist himself), on Campbell's tv show, were the greatest.
Nice to see him still playing.
Love his guitar style.
Don't ever underestimate Jerry Reed's impact on the world of fingerpickers

We lost a great american but how wonderful it is that we still have his music.
I remember seeing Jerry Reed at Indian Ranch in Webster, MA, in 1983 I believe. A great show for sure. RIP Snowman!!!
I loved it! Only a good old boy from the southern USA could even think of riffs like that
