The base looks great and really sets off the models.....terrific job and an excellent video. I never thought of using the dry brush technique to high-light clothes on figures....thanks for the tip....it's in the vault for future use!
They really were. A bit over scale and not super realistic. But these new ones are fantastic. I like Miniart figures for the detail too, but I find they often have poor fit (especially when adding equipment, bags, etc)
The Kettenkrad is one of my favorite military vehicles. The idea of it is completely absurd, yet it proved very useful in its intended role. Your build illustrates this very well. All of the figures kind of look like they’d rather be somewhere else yet they’re getting the job done. As others have said the use of natural slate for the base is brilliant. Handling the borders of a diorama is never simple- the usual ways look so artificial, as if the scene was cut out of reality and has no connection to the rest of the world they are supposed to exist in. Somehow, the exposed ragged edge of the stone mitigates that for me.
Oh, I really can't paint them either. Did you see their faces? But I am getting better at the uniforms, using the three different shades with my airbrush and then the dry brushing.
Hello Stu, its been a while since I have posted a comment, things in the colonies have been a bit chaotic for a while. This dioroma was quite creative. Ironically while I'm mainly aircraft, I need to broaden my horizons and this kit is my first deviation into the armour/ vehicle realm so your timing is excellent. Plus, I've always thought this kind of small supply type configuration still has some good application in today's world. Thanks for sharing, hope all is well, Cheers Bob.
Hello Bob, good to hear from you. The Luftwaffe also used the Kettenkrad - there are references images of it being used to tow aircraft - so maybe you could do a combo diorama?
Hey Stu, hope you're well. 👍 Wow mate! This is absolutely beautiful work! 👌👏💯 The way you build and finish your models is really lovely to watch. I should really try to emulate your style and technique! The figures are really fantastic! Not just the new style from Tamiya, which are far superior to the older style ones, but in the way you have finished them. They are absolutely stunning! The different shades and highlights really lifts all the details. And the base! 👌👍 Inspired idea but carried out to perfection! For such a small vehicle with 3 figures and a base, you have elevated this kit far beyond its parts. I personally think its one of your best ever vignettes! Definitely one of my favourites of yours and one that I would be more than proud of if built myself! Thankyou for posting Stu, 20 minutes that I really enjoyed! 😍😁 Looking forward to your upcoming builds (which judging from your 2025 preview , promise to be exciting and varied!) Take care mate 👍👊
Hi mate - thank you, I really appreciate your kind words. There's definitely a lot to be said for taking a simple kit and spending more time on it. Very refreshing! Thanks for watching, and I hope you're doing well.
@@ModelNerdYes I think I need to take your advice and build a newish, decent and easier kit and do something with it. I keep getting bogged down with mediocre kits. Always a pleasure to see your work Stu. Thankyou , I'm doing well. 😊
I bought one of the original tooling kit way (way!) back and it actually came with a die-cast metal engine block, which gave the model a nice weight. I think the die-cast engine was discontinued as I discovered, when I purchased another of the same kit, the engine was just a molded plastic part.
Hello mr. Nerd! I love your oldfashioned brushpainting.that kit seems 2me like a nice little mojo build.i hope u had a lot of modeling fun.with sticky greetings from Brandenburg germany.faithfully yours.your modellmate.christian
I’ve needed to make something like this for a while, not a large subject, but with a base that conveys meaning and looks good. Great work, and as I am going to the Southwest model show next week, do you have any kits that you recommend me to look out for? Amazing effort Stu! ;)
@@ModelNerd Ooh, I will probably go for a pak, and maybe something like a universal carrier, to make two seperate dioramas, as neither of the kits should be too expensive. Thanks for the ideas, and I will make sure to keep you updated on what I got :)
That piece of slate really brings out the scene of the diorama, thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank you
@ you’ve got me looking out for pieces of slate now. 😁❤️
The base looks great and really sets off the models.....terrific job and an excellent video. I never thought of using the dry brush technique to high-light clothes on figures....thanks for the tip....it's in the vault for future use!
Thanks! Dry brushing is quite old school but can be very effective for things like figures :)
Love your use of the slate as a base - very unusual yet darn pretty to look at 🙂
Thank you Mike! It's definitely something I'm going to try again.
Slate base, looks a very practical idea and it came out nice.
Thank you
Very nice diorama. Good to see Tamiya improving their figures. Old ones I built back in the 70's were actually quite crude.
They really were. A bit over scale and not super realistic. But these new ones are fantastic. I like Miniart figures for the detail too, but I find they often have poor fit (especially when adding equipment, bags, etc)
@@ModelNerd I do quite like Masterboxes figures, despite the price and their lack of options.
Looks cool.
Thank you
Nicely done excellent details,,thanks for sharing,,😊

Thank you Mark - I really appreciate that. Diorama size and shape has always been something I found hard to decide, so the slate really did help
Gotta love Tamiya 👍
Always!
Very nice use of the slate as a base. I might pinch that idea... 🤫
Thanks!
Your figures have improved a lot, good job man!
Thanks!
Looks good to me. Those figures are really nice.
Thank you
A lovely model and the slate base is very natural looking.
Thank you Steven
I've this kit half built . Liked the slate idea. I can't paint figures for some reason. U made it look so easy. A nice little build 👍
Oh, I really can't paint them either. Did you see their faces? But I am getting better at the uniforms, using the three different shades with my airbrush and then the dry brushing.
Awesome job. I've always liked that little machine.
Thank you

The slate as a base is very clever and it looks really authentic and good
Thank you!
Very nicely done. The slate as a base is an interesting use of the material.
Thank you mate
Nicely done, the final diorama looks quite natural, which is what I assume you were going for.
Thank you! It was sure :)
Love your blue-tac technique for fitting fiddly parts!
Haha, always! They never ping off across the room like they do with tweezers.
Brilliant as always. Love the slate idea!
Thank you mate!
Fantastic project!
Thank you Matt!

Wow, I've never seen or heard of that before. Definitely unique!
great model keep it up love the channel
Thank you mate!
Hey Stu, good to see you back my friend. Great video and really great job
Thank you mate. Was watching your Blenheim video the other day as I picked one of them up myself recently.
@ good man - watch out for the cockpit /fuselage junction 🤣
The slate base is fantastic
Thank you. It certainly adds some natural variation to the ground.
Sweet looking, very well done.
Thank you mate
That's a lovely looking kit, nicely built & finished. I love the use of the slate as a build too. 👌👌
Thank you Steve. It's nice to have a different shape, non-rectangular base, definitely! And it fits nicely onto my shelves in front of other builds :)
Very well done!! Really like the weathering and shadings.
Thank you! Yes, I was pleased with the shading on the figures too. Better than my previous attempts, I think.
Excellent work!
Thank you very much

Thank you mate. Kits like this - maybe the Goliath, the Pak 36, Pak 40, Horch, Flak 3, universal carrier? Or what about the German field kitchen?

Nice work Stu, the kit and base look great, I love the Kettenkrad, you should see if you can find the 1/9th scale kit from Italeri...
Thank you. I have seen that kit around actually, although it's a bit of an odd scale
10/10
Thank you
Très belle maquette de plus très réaliste bravo ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Merci!

I'm Amazoning one now. Lol. Excellent build on this kool kit!
Thank you! Enjoy your build of it!
🤝👍
Thanks
"I also bought this but have never used it, and this one which I've never used." Sound familiar to anyone?😂😂😂
Haha! I'm slowly working my way through loads of these things, trying not to buy more :)
I built this in the 70s as well. Wasn't the engine metal. I could be wrong, usually I am. The glue I think.
There's a much older tooling of the same kit from, I think, 1978. This 2021 release is completely re-tooled.
Nope, you are not wrong! I still have mine, it has a white metal engine 🙂
