    Hello Michael,
    I wrote with the Kaweco Sport Black plastic version for many years, everything was fine until I put a converter in the fountain pen. He stops writing immediately... Neither the seller nor Kaweco can find the solution...
    Kaweco converters are too simple and they don't work...
    I find Kaweco Sport relatively attractive, but the weakness of the converter must be eliminated...
    Thank you for your inspiring videos.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  ปีที่แล้ว

      Afternoon, Michel, and thanks for the comment! Sorry to hear you have a problem with your cartridge convertor. I had trouble with the first versions, which were a rubber bulb in a thin metal housing. They never sucked up enough ink, and I gave up. The newer, piston types work very well for me, though. I haven't had any problems with them.

    • @michelgolabaigne595
      @michelgolabaigne595 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much for your answer,
      Kaweco only has two types of converters: one for the Kaveco Sport and one for the larger models...

      The specialized stores have not heard of it either...

    Thinking of buying one... glad to hear someone who likes the nibs. They seem to get a lot of complaints, and most of those are from people who are having good luck with theirs, but they have to add that some other reviewers have had problems with the ones they had. So one bad nib gets mentioned on twenty or more other reviews...

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there's a lot of nonsense talked about pens generally. If you buy a Kaweco, or any other pen, flush it through before you ink it. Usually pens will have tiny quantities of grease or oils from the manufacturing process. They need to be washed out with minute quantity of soap in lots of water, flush several times, then rinse under the tap. I've found all my Kaweco nibs and pens to be faultless writers - and I have several!

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know why people say they're uncomfortable because they're "small". I find them comfortable _because_ they're small. My only grief with Kaweco Sport is that the converter needs to be their mini converter bc nothing else will fit. But else, I love my Kawecos, they accept any ink, they take standard international cartridges & converters, they're lightweight & they write smoothly. And they have beautiful colours!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I love mine too. I spent some money getting an AL-Sport many years ago, but my favourite is a little brown plastic one that perfectly matches my Traveller's Notebook. Gorgeous little pens.

    Thank you for your reviews. Would you, please, include the writing samples to your videos. I do agree, it is important to know how a pen "sits in your shirt pocket", but - for many of us, I believe - it's twice as important to know how a pen nib glides across the paper and how its stroke looks like.

    These Liliputs are so small that I actually lost mine somewhere in Groningen three and a half years back, I hope some lucky dutch person found it and it makes good use of it now. @writerlywitterings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think my favourite has to be the brass model. The steel - well, beautiful, but too light. I find these pens really good, especially as essential emergency pens for when my usual ones have run out!

  • @AllanEngelhardt0
    @AllanEngelhardt0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like them too for every-day carry (EDC); I prefer to have the plastic Sport in the pen pouch as I have found the cap may come a little loose when the pen is just in the pocket. Sadly, that adds another £23 to the cost, but for me at least it is worth it.
    Top tip: get the new mini piston converter for the Sport pen instead of the old (discontinued??) squeeze converter. It works much better and holds a more useful amount of ink.
    Keep writing!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to have to take your advice on the convertor. The squeeze type isn't as reliable as I'd like. It doesn't seem able to suck up enough ink, and I did have a couple of mishaps when the whole thing slipped off the feed and left me with (unintentionally) an eyedropper pen! Cheers for that, Allan.

    My pocket pen is the Kaweco ART Sport in granite, carried around in the Kaweco sleeve in brandy. I will say that having the Sport in that incredible Italian acrylic, along with their 14K gold nib completely changes the Kaweco experience. Such a joy to write with, and their gold nibs are worth every penny, their gold nibs are fantastic!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I've never seen one of those pens in the flesh. I'm very happy with my Sport in brown resin and Aluminium. They are still in regular use, and it's rare that I don't have one on me when I go out. But the idea of a gold nib is appealing, I have to admit. Thanks for the advice, Your Grace. I'll have to think about another nib now!

    • @HisGraceHisGlory
      @HisGraceHisGlory 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@writerlywitteringsI understand, the Kaweco is just the perfect pocket pen for me. As far as the gold nib, Bock makes the number 5 in gold for them. I have a medium, and it is one of the smoothest writing nibs I have, and I have many gold to choose from. One thing I have noticed over the years, that unlike my other gold nibs, this number 5 has never even once needed tweaking to restore the way it writes, not once. And although it is small, the nib itself is a fantastic looking nib, tri-color the way they plate their gold nibs. And as far as the Italian acrylic, it is so much more luxurious in the hand. The cheap 'plasticy' feel is completely removed with the ART series pens. Worth the money in my opinion, the upgrades drawing you in to want to use your Kaweco more, and isn't that what it is all about? 👍

      One thing, though: if you're putting a push converter into one of the metal Kaweco Sports, you can only fill it to about 90% because the finial on the body is thicker than on the plastic version. Just so you don't do what I did and end up with a hand-full of ink when you try to screw the body and section together. It's a minor detail, but worth knowing ;0)

    As you are probably aware I own 4 Kaweco sport pens , Blue, Green Red and Orange, and the coloured ink cartridges to match the pens, however I bit the bullet and placed an order with Cult Pens for the Brass Sport , think it looks good and also a gold clip, should be here Mon/Tues, first pen I have purchased for about a year, I have been having trouble writing due to pins and needles and numbness in my writing hand and typing letters just don’t cut it for me, probably just keep black ink cartridges in the pen, although I have quite a number of bottles of mainly diamine ink due to tremors in my left hand have been unable to hold the bottles and I tend to put more ink on myself rather than in the filler, anyway currently going back through some of your older videos as they are so interesting, you did say last week that due to your incapacity if anyone could think of a presentation then to let you know, well how about a delve into your watercolour pads and show us some of your work, as what I have seen is very good, just a thought, enjoy your weekend, take care Mike

      @writerlywitterings  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pencil is pleasant as a little pocket pencil, but I would say it is slippery, I'm afraid. It's fine for short term work, but mainly sketching rather than long periods of writing. If you have problems with slipperiness, perhaps you should consider something more like this, the Worther Shorty www.cultpens.com/i/q/WR12162/worther-shorty-pencil - I have a couple, and they're excellent for sketching and drawing. The 2mm lead is a bit thick, but you can keep rotating the pencil to find a sharper edge for writing. They are just slightly textured, and work very well in addition to being quite cheap and good value. Hope that helps!

      Hi, Conrad - and yes. I think they'd be ideal. Small and light enough to carry in a shirt pocket or clipped in trousers. Very robust little pens indeed, and not so expensive that you would be scared to use it. Also, the fact that it takes a standard universal cartridge makes refilling while in lessons much easier. I would happily recommend them. Your only restriction is the amount of writing you get from a cartridge. If you use a Fine nib, as I do, I think they'd last for many sheets of A4 - plus doodles!

      I don't disagree. I think my Brass Lilliput and aluminium Sport have a great feel - but I have to admit, I think that the little brown Sport is a joy to use. No idea why - I usually don't like overly light pens, but that one just feels good and looks right (it's the same colour as my old Midori Traveller's Notebook). Studio are lovely some time ago a guy sent me a YStudio pencil to look at - solid brass, great weight and balance, and a 2mm lead with a click-advance mechanism, rather than the usual clutch systems. I do love it for some work, but I confess I prefer both of my clutch types in preference - and I have no idea why! Usually I prefer heavier pens and pencils, but in that case, as with the Sport, I prefer the lighter models! It's weird how some things grab you, and others don't seem to work so well. The YStudio is ideal for writing, but the others I use for sketching. Different muscles, I suppose!

      Ach - I don't have any bourbon! You've made me jealous. On the Lilliput - very much a matter of personal taste, I guess. I think that it works really well as a note-pen. I take it in my pocket quite often when I'm out for walks. It's heavy, but not bulky, and it takes so little space, but feels like a good-sized pen when you use it. It is thin, but that just makes it appealing, I think. It's as thick as a narrow pencil. Ideally, try one out at a store if you get the chance. Shame they see fit to not include a pocket clip and charge $5 plus for an "accessory" clip.
    Sorry, but that is a deal murderer for me. Taking into consideration what their pens cost, it isn't asking too much for a pocket clip so a guy without a "man purse" can use it away from the office. After all, other Chinese pens that cost as little as $1.99 plus tax and free shipping or free plus shipping from China include a pocket clip, and from the TH-cam reviews have a good nib. My free plus shipping random color no name Lamy Safari style pen writes great, and has a pocket clip, and came with ten ink cartridges AND a converter to use bottled ink. However, I think you're paying for a more expensive device than a Chinese one, and I personally won't buy Chinese purely because I cannot tell whether a pen is made by slave labour. I detest Chinese treatment of the Uyghurs, the people of Hong Kong and others. There are reasons why German-made products cost more. The company staff are paid reasonable wages, and the company spends money on design - whereas Chinese pens tend to be direct copies of other people's hard work. However I also have another aspect, which is that I really like to use some pens without clips! I really like the Kaweco without a clip, and just chuck it into my trouser pocket. But that's not to argue with your main point, because obviously Kaweco could still have supplied a clip - and left it up to me whether I used it or not!
