this is the best tutorial! I'm new to cutting my own hair and I use this as a refresher every time. I get better each time. Thanks for making this video!
Watched your video and did this today, since I can't go to my barber with the whole world on lock down. With everything shutting down and life in isolation, I figured I'd learn how to give myself a fresh fade. Thank you, sir!
I have a mohawk with a fade and it annoys me how much I need to go to the barber to maintain the fade because it grows so fuckin fast. Gonna try to teach myself how to fade. This video helped a ton, so ty.
Thank you for this video. I have watched upwards of 40 videos of men giving instruction on hair cutting. I've tried all of their techniques only to end up shaving my entire head out of frustration. I'm frugal / cheap and refuse to pay for a haircut once per month that I may or may not like. Using the technique provided in this video, I've come out happy with the finished result. Again, thank you for making this video. Maybe I can finally make it through the awkward stage of hair growth.
That's awesome idea for the band mate. Thanks a lot for the video. I have been cutting myself for 10 years and have never thought of using a line band. God bless you. I using second mirror to see my head from behind
Nice headband idea, i usually go by eye and i get it right just about every time but this will make it way easier. If you want a better fade look into near zero gapping your clippers. Basically unscrew the two screws and push the blade up so the cutting blade is just a millimeter or so under the stationary blade. This will give you way more closer cuts! Its easy to do on wahls.
I just followed your instructions and it I loved the results. I just did one step differently; I did my fade more smooth, using the number 1.5. The idea of the strap is awesome! Very clever! New subscribe here. Also, you are gorgeous dude! Omg! Thanks again for sharing this video with us! Cheers!
Was considering a buzz cut until I saw this video, I didn’t have a headband so I had to use a belt (kinda looked like Rambo with the shaggy hair too 😅) but pleased to say it worked a treat... couldn’t have done it without you king 🤙🤙
Man your head got them angles so a bald head suits u, I have a perfectly round head to the point that when I attempt a zero haircut I end up looking like Buddha himself
Great advice, I would add, include a hand mirror to work with your vanity mirror. You can see what you're doing in the back of your head instead of feeling around. I'm sure several people ruin their lines.
Here, check this one out, it has both inches and mm BUZZ CUT CLIPPER GUARD NUMBER EXAMPLES WITH MEASUREMENTS (HOW TO CUT YOUR OWN HAIR) th-cam.com/video/qbq-haqphMU/w-d-xo.html
I told my myself I would go to the gym today and get a grooming kit so I could take care of my look better without paying for anything. All in one video with the bod and knows how to groom himself. This is a sign I need to get up and do what I said lol and good idea with the band.

Nice video. I love the look of the cut. You're instructions are awesome and detailed. Thank you. I want to do this but I'm just too scared to try this on my own.
I tried this! I cut my own hair better then I expected. I used only my iPhone and bathroom mirror. People had no idea I cut my own hair. I’m going to do my second trim on Friday. Hope it goes well again.
ive been cutting my own hair since 2012...havent done super low/med fades yet...doing the back is definitely hard...never use a mirror unless you have a 4D mirrors surrounding you haha...its all about feeling...i often close my eyes when shaving the back and simply using fingers...
Great help and awesome video. My only complaint is that, with that full head of hair and those big muscles, I feel a little worse about myself than I did before
We're all self-barbering these days! I used to buzz my own years ago, and even had the top long plus thinned it by hand with regular scissors, it was a more complicated cut. But it seems my technique, which I like, is very different from what all these barbers do. Maybe it depends on the way your hair grows ... Anyway, get a 2nd mirror and a cordless clipper, and have fun! Also, I'm going to experiment with using a plastic bag or something, or just get a barber's "cape" because I can't stand that hair on my shoulders etc.
Yes brilliant idea with the hair band! I have cut my own hair for the past 5 yrs, just because I was tired of getting a crap fade from inconsistent barbers. I keep my cut pretty close to the pompadore also. First I lightly gel the parts of hair that I dont want to cut such as bangs and part up to a mohawk and clip into place. I start at the top and I work my way down from a #8 attachment to a nogaurd, stepping down as I go towards the neckline and forming the fade as I go. I have a large mirror on the back of a door and another large mirror on the wall behind the door and a high lumen light clipped in between the two. The door with the mirror helps swing to the needed angle to see the back of the head, but gets kind of cramped but it works...
Nice haircut dan. Im letting my hair grow more. Yeah i miss getting my hair cut at the salons. But in may or June it will be open again. You grew your hair out so now your not doing hair cut videos. Anymore. You should get the brio trimmer. I should get beard balm.
Good money saving tips. Ive just shaved it all off since the mid 90’s.. Ive saved a ton of money over the years. I wish I had put that in the cookie jar…
looks awesome. i tried it many times and dont get it even close as yours :D.Which wahl trimmer do you use there because the linked one looking different.
I love your video. It’s helped me give myself fades and save money on haircut. Quick question, right around the 2:56 mark in the video when you switch to the #1 guard, is it in the closed setting, or open?
Of course man. Thank you for the great and helpful vids. Question for ya.. how do I get the cowlick to blend in? It’s hard to explain without pics of how my hair is.. also I can’t tame my mustache to do what I’d like.. so I have to keep it low.. any advice?
@@danzbeard this was my first time cutting literally ANYONE'S hair before in any way so because his hair started out so long on the sides to begin with (like at least 1" to 2.5", it turned a little disastrous.... Definitely not something i can't learn through experience but his hair was just doing a lot of different things than your nicely maintained cut🤣 I was able to get the lower part of the fade going which I was impressed with... But then the further I went up it started looking a lil crazy (to me, the anxious perfectionist) BUT our backup was always for me to just do a hard dropoff like my hair instead of something blended if it was going anything but well. So thankfully though this was a failed attempt, his hair has been salvaged into something presentable. I don't think your instructions messed me up but I didn't think about the fact that I should have gotten rid of a bulk of his length on the sides and back on the very first step 🤣 that's quarantine for ya. Thankfully we already know how to do our own color so that won't have to be learned as well 😄
Who else is here because of COVID-19 closing all barbershops?
Judson Brown was looking for this comment. Lol.
Judson Brown me
Yerrrr just did my shit with this method and it came out looking not bad

Out of curiosity, can you buy a headband similar to that one in stores like a Target or Walmart?
You could also use a snap back for a guide line

Your headband and attitude made me try it. My hair looked great. Thanks Dan
Having 3 mirrors placed around you really helps seeing what's being cut so you can adjust a little better also, great vid thanks
This is the inspiration I have lacked mid-covid. My dude has inspired me to grow the beard and fade it up. Lets go.
