Also if I heard Jeff correctly, if trolling braid you can use the same rods that you use to troll Mojos with and thus do not need a rod specifically made for bunker spoons ?

Yes the 32 oz pulled in braid and a short stout mojo rod outfished the two spoon rods. Our preliminary assumption is that these were meeting the fish sooner and got bites before the long rods ever reached the fish. Obviously everyday can be different. One thing is for sure the 24 and 32oz are game changers.

@@FishermansHeadquarters so if I troll either the 24 or 32 ounce keel spoon on the rods that I usually use to pull Mojos, I’ll get/see the same ‘pumping’ action of the rod tip & the same ‘swaying’ of the spoon as if I was using a rod specifically designed to pull spoons ? Also when pulling spoons with a mojo rod, do place them in an out rod holder or in the stern corner rod holder (as you do when pulling Mojos) ?

They are so new there's still lots of experimentation going on right now and guys are catching fish using them a number of different ways. We are looking forward to getting back out when the weather clears up to gather some data on size vs depth ranges which has been a very common question. From our fishing trips I can say that we caught fish pulling the 24 and 32 oz on our mojo rods fished in the rod holder (gunnel or stern corners). You could put them in an outrodder if wanted too. Yes on our mojo rods you see a pumping action of the heavy spoon however it isn't as dramatic as you would see in a soft-long bunker spoon rod. Obviously if a rod is a broom stick it will not pump however the spoons still swim.
What I've found is the 12 and 16's have much more side to side sass, a wider swimming action. The 24 is more narrow and the 32 is much tighter than the 12/16's. I think some days this is good and maybe others not. Jury is still out. I feel some days he fish are lazy and don't want to chase an erratic spoon. They want a straighter tracking presentation down deep and this is the reason mojos have works so well and why these heavier spoons are game changers. It's basically giving anglers the best of both worlds.

@@FishermansHeadquarters Appreciate the detailed reply. Going to try and get down there (I’m in Brick) sometime within the next 2 weeks.

what weight would you recommend for trolling the inshore waters off barnegat?

    • @FishermansHeadquarters

Any of the three depending on how you want to approach. The 12 and 16 is great for wireline. The 24 and 32 can be fished on straight braid.

For those like me who troll braid...do we still need to use a trolling weight (drail)...or just use either one of the heavier two keels ?

You can get down deep with the 24 and 32oz with braid and no drail
