- What a way to end an brilliant tournament! A close first half match-up between Ireland and France was thwarted by the French's dominant display in the second. A 50-14 victory on Bastille Day capped off an incredible 2023 Under 20 Championship in South Africa, with France making it their third title in a row (2018, 2019, 2023).

This French team is on another level. They play absolutely sublime rugby. They have talent across the board, but the scrumhalf is a very special player.

Jauneau, the scrumhalf is already a starter at Clermont. In the wake of Antoine Dupont, he's a new option as a replacement after Maxime Lucu (Bordeaux), Baptiste Couilloud (Lyon), Baptiste Serin (Toulon), Nolan Le Garrec (Racing) , Leo Coly (Montpellier).

The most ruthless and dominant team in U20 Rugby World Championships history. Just destroying all in their path. Three championships back to back for the Young Roosters. It's a dynasty at this point. The pedigree in french rugby is just so impressive. Even the women. These boys represent the esteemed heritage of the french jersey with honour and style. Full court rugby. Kudos to these youngsters. There has never been a more deserving winner. The halfback Baptiste Jauneau is a star. The future looks so bright for Les Bleu.
The future looks pretty good for Ireland as well. Systems implemented years ago by forward thinking luminaries are paying dividends. A Grand Slam and silver at the World championships is a good result.
The Young Shamrocks were outclassed by the France Juniors, as were all teams that faced them. Defence was an issue for Ireland. But they have played with class and heart at these U20 World Championships and should be proud.
What do you mean "Even the women"? That sounds more than a little insulting, and a trifle misogynist. The Menager twins will bring their Cup home, and do it without your anti-women support.
@@Demun1649come on mate stop fishing for an argument. He means it that their dominance is not gender specific - which is an incredible achievement. Men’s and women’s rugby are very different sports so achieving dominance in both is credit to all people and systems involved.
@@Demun1649No one has more respect for the France ladies than me. My favourite players are, the wily Pauline Bourdon, the rampaging Romane Menager, and pile driver and all round class player Gabrielle Vernier. Also some great sevens players I'd love to see in the fifteens team after the Olympics.

As someone who watches both the NRL and French Top 14, I can attest that they are currently neck and neck. The Top 14 is easily the best union comp for sure.

The Irish Times calls the second Irish try a « generous call ». However there is nothing to gain to minimize a losing team, it only minimizes the victor.

Complete domination. As good as Irish rugby is rn, France is just on a ridiculous trajectory and only getting better. The club league system is the higheys level, the finances involved are immense, the infrastructure and population make it have so much potential. As an Irishman all i can do is marvel at French rugby and the state it's in right now.

You're right on every point but you miss one thing that is really benefic for french rugby : the "JIFF" (Joueurs Issus des Filières de Formation = homegrown players).
Since 2010-2011, every professional team have to enlist on the roster for every game of Top 14 or Pro D2 a minimum of players coming from the JIFF. It means that these young players get a huge amount of experience earlier for the ''high level" because they play (and practice) at a professional level at 18, 19 or 20 years old. For example, Posolo Tuilagi played around 800 minuts this year between Top 14, Challenge cup and u20... that's crazy !

That said, Rugby is only the 7th most played sport in France. Despite that, there still are more licensed rugby players in France than in Ireland, but still impressive.

He took two of the best under 20 best players in the goup to endure the WRC preparation, two backs, one of them has the most tries in the TOP 14 (senior premier league) championship.

Disappointing from an Irish point of view but I just have to applaud the French. A simply stunning performance and it is scary to think how good France will be when they reach the senior team.
For Ireland, we have to look at the positives. Aside from yesterday's game, we were excellent all year and there is a lot of potential in our team too.
The Six Nations was yours, the World Cup was ours. You win some, you lose some. I'm excited to see the future clashes between France and Ireland, at every level, because both are doing things right.

Well said. Our U20s are a fine Rugby team but on the day that amazing French team turned us over. The Yellow card hurt us, but once the young French players got momentum they were a pleasure to watch. I've seen most of their games and they are phenomenal. They play with such flair and have a wonderful enterprising and attacking style.

Impressive performance by France. How could the ref allow those two Irish tries with the TMO?! Especially the second one... It didn't change anything luckily not shocking nevertheless
On the first try the Irish boy clearly crawled but one can argue that he was released by the tackler so free to stand up I guess. The second one, well I saw worse try allowed (hello Mr Barnes ), I think it was a difficult one to judge so in this case you stay with your first decision. But glad it didn't cost us the title 😅

It's frightening how good French Rugby is right now. It's not even that they have a particular sructure or gameplan that is allowing them to win. It's just great players playing heads up Rugby. It's hard beat that.
Unbelievable by France. I was at the game when these two sides faced off in u20 6 Nations earlier this year. Ireland did fantastic to not get rolled over by France in that second half and win. France played at a much higher than that second half from minute 1 to 80, no team could overturn that power and momentum. The start of the second half was the killer for our lads, but it was only going one way.
Phenomenal tournament by Ireland nonetheless, another rake of players there who will be capped before the 2027 World Cup. No doubt a lot of these players will be seeing each other over the next 10/12 years.
What a very potent and well coordinated team. Well done France, your teams total domination in this World Cup from the beginning to the end was spectacular to watch. Some serious talent for the future of French rugby on another level!

Full on precision vulture is being implemented in France from senior down to u18 team.
We have never trained our boys with such level of precision in all aspects of the game.
Thé exigence level has risen several steps and every player now knows he has to beat of himself to get in the 23.
It pays off with another incredible generation of players.

If this talent translates to the next level France will challenge NZL for the best rugby Nation in the world.
Doesn't always translate, only some of these kids will make senior international level.seasoned pros at international level are more than capable of dealing win the next boy wonder.

This year would have seen La Rochelle, Leinster, Crusaders and the Chiefs competing against each others to know who is the best club/province in the world, we now need to know what’s the best league between HCup and Super Rugby.

Je ne m'attendais pas à un tel écart.
D'autant plus que les deux essais irlandais sont litigieux, le score pourrait être en réalité encore plus sévère (50-0...).
Cette équipe a balayé toutes les autres, ils n'ont jamais douté, ils sont en permanence dans l'avancée. C'est une véritable leçon de rugby et au-delà, une véritable leçon tout court.
C'est la réussite de tout un système.
