    This is by no means an announcement that you’ll see sponsors regularly on this channel, you likely won’t even see one soon. I’ve had the idea for a long time to use sponsor money to help people close to me and see this video as a first step to opening that door. Thanks for watching!

    Man, I really struggled with this and held off sponsorships for a long time for this exact reason.
    But what I've found is that a lot of sponsors actually are very open to me doing my thing, and when they're not, I just don't work with them! There are the boring "talking points" that need to be hit, but i manage to surround those with enough crazy stuff that it doesn't feel so soul-selly.
    I also don't do ads unless they let me plop their integration at the END of the video, because it makes no sense to interrupt a 3 minute sketch with a 60 second ad read. I also want people to be able to easily click away if they really have no interest in watching an ad.
    Happy to talk more about this if you want, it's such a complicated thing to navigate!

    This one was a thinker. For those who haven't watched, it's a skit about some guy, not sure if he says his name. But basically the backstory is that this character runs a successful TH-cam channel, but isn't good with the business side of it. He then talks to us about his concerns with sponsors, and then lets us know he will start taking on sponsors but only to help others, but it won't be the focus of the channel, like Mr. Beast (who I assume is another successful TH-camr in this cinematic universe). And then the twist comes which absolutely blow your balls off. This video is being shot in a hotel. Why, you might ask? Get prepared to have your other balls blown off. It's his cousin's wedding. LMAO I did not see that one coming. Joel never fails to deliver these weird quirky smart funny videos, an absolute genius.

Until now actually, one company contacted me and gave me control to just make a weird animation about them, which is what I've been working on. There is this unhealthy idealistic image of the starving artist that doesn't sacrifice their integrity for money, and then their are artists such as Dali who would draw pictures on a blank cheques hoping the people he gave them to would sell them as art rather than cashing them. The most creative way I've seen someone do sponsorships is Neytirix's skillshare ads (she's a digital artist/animator); she's made a monster that forces characters in her 'universe' to read the sponsor segment or be brutally murdered and it's the only time I ever watch a sponsor segment. It's hard to put across but the way she's incorporated it into her lore is a stroke of genius imo.

  • @axiiom5744
    @axiiom5744 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Please take video sponsorships.
    First of all, don't sacrifice your artistic integrity at all. Simply taking money for your work isn't inherently going to make your work worse, but it can if you let it. Some advertisers want you to do that, but none of your viewers do.
    However, as a viewer, I think I speak for everyone who watches these videos when I say we want to see you thrive off of the content you provide us, so yes, take sponsorships. There is a respectful way to do so, and your viewers will understand if not be happy that you're taking them because we know you're profiting off of our engagement.
    People don't hate ads, they hate **intrusive** ads. As the content creator it will be your job to determine if an ad you take is intrusive, but if it isn't, and if the community agrees, everybody wins. We want everybody to win, especially you.

    Internet Historian and Internet Comment Etiquette have the most wild but memorable ads I’ve ever seen. Even taking lame ad reads and putting their own production value where people actually start looking forward to them as “bits” on their own. Raid Shadowman vs NordMan, Nobbelberry - these are just a few.
    My Brother, My Brother and Me have also capitalized their ad time to the point where it’s basically just another segment on their podcasts. The goods are parts of the ads, unapologetically. I feel this is exactly what you’re talking about, Joel, and it’s the only way I actually don’t want to skip those ad blocks. Because they’re content too!
