Love this show. Especially the DC 3`s, got my multi on one in 1961 i was 21yo. Lots of memories. Also, the Convair 440 Metro was a beautiful and fast aircraft`With those P&W R2800`s. Hey joe get a few 440`s there are a few here in Fla. Just doing nothing. Sky Blazer 😎🤠
I was looking forward to him flying the Bell 206 as originally suggested, but then he wound up flying the Eurocopter AS350. Must have been an incredible experience for him.
Happy birthday Joe. You are a legend above legends. If he is 69 can he still fly commercially in Canada? Is the law the same as many countries with a limit of 65?
I have 2500 hrs in the BE-18, DC-3 recip and turbo prop, DC-4 each and never had an engine fire from 1982 to 2016 when I retired, however shortly after I left Brooks Fuel in 2004 there was an uncontrolable fire so the guy put the DC-4 in the bush near Nenana just after take off from Fairbanks, AK
Sometimes coming back without cockpit heat I was so cold even with my 5 or so layers of clothing (I was to fat to use Carharts) I couldn't even shiver. Couple hours of that is no fun. The CB's were in the nose wheel so you couldn't reset them once in flight
Takes 4 hours to heat the engines to bring the oil temps from -40 to 0 degres to have oil flowing through the engines during engine start. We usully didn't fly in wx colder than -40 cause the feathering pumps might not work until you had 3 or 4 minutes in flight to warm the pumps so you could feather in case you lost an engine. If you can't feather just after take off and your heavy, I don't thnk you can stay airborne. In Fairbanks I don't remember wind chill cause wind was usually calm and we never flew during forecast or actual icing conditions cause our 4 didn't have boots.
It seems like the Buffalo planes fly with a mechanic. Do all planes fly with two pilots and a mechanic or is it specific to the environment, the age of the planes, a canada thing?
Charter flights often have a mechanic along. Environment, destinations and age of planes would drive Buffalo's need to send a mechanic. People don't realize that commercial airlines and cargo fly out of specific locations where they have their own maintenance people or someone they contract with. Going here, there, and everywhere means there won't be an aircraft mechanic available where you land, or it is cheaper to carry parts and send your own mechanic along.
HAHA We never went back if the props wouldn't feather, we just went and we always took off and landed with cross feeds on, why, cause thats what the owner wanted, unless I was the PIC with him out of the airplane.
Your practice of hiring pilots and making them work on the ramp and delivering in trucks is disgusting I'm a plumber if you hired me to do plumbing and maybe clean toilets for nine months I'll be gone the first day your practice is disgusting and I don't see the point in it or any advantage

This episode is from 2012 - he’s probably around 79 years old now
I thought the age limit was only for passenger commercial pilots and didn't apply to cargo flights
We enjoyed this episode… Happy Birthday Joe🫡🫡🫡
69 and full focused up for a lesson helicopter flying.
Amazing man he is…
Way to go Joe

What good does it do to be hot, wearing Gucci jeans and boots, surrounded by thigh deep snow?
The German's had helicopters in service during WW2, the Sikorsky R4 wa sthe first US military helicopter in production.
Old episode ? Stupid question, right.
Happy birthday Joe.
Awsome
What do all the people in these remote towns do for employment? How do they make a living?
I wonder what the monthly Insurance Premium is 🤔

What happened to the Australian's story, did the lawyers pull that one too?
Huh? Lawyers had them pull an episode?
Is Buffalo airways functional?
No, they are a real company.
I'm no ice mechanic but I'm willing to bet that a gauge or its sending unit fails very often.
Still using hero 4’s…
Crikey!

The uninformed dramatics in the narration makes it harder to watch as an aviator

hopefully the global warming brings temperatures up by 10 degrees, that would be great for nwt
Always dramas on the flights- would you trust the planes?
Sure I would. A TV program concentrates and magnifies the sense of drama.
