  • On a routine flight to test a new engine on an o65 year old C-46 the pilots encounter some major issues. During the 2 day 1700km trip the engine begins to leak oil across the wing causing severe alarm, if the plane runs out of the oil the engine will stall and the plane will crash. The pilots are running out of time to land this plane.

      Well in aviation they replace nearly everything on the aircraft due to service intervals.
      You could do that same on car but I doubt that many people can afford changing engine or transmission to keep their old car driving. It's cheaper to buy a new one than keep replacing all of the parts.

      @@hene193 That's what Emerald means by well built and well maintained.

      Have you considered that maybe piston aircraft may be better for bush flying conditions? Piston engines spool up much faster than turboprops and for that reason are better at short takeoffs and landings. They can also be repaired by less specialized mechanics (though you can obviously see how that went wrong in this episode).

    How about LETTING US ALL SEE THE LOG BOOK ENTRY FROM THE ENGINE RUN DIRECTLY AFTER THE ENGINE CHANGE? THE FIRST THING MAINTENANCE IS SUPPOSED TO DO IS AN ENGINE RUN AFTER AN ENGINE CHANGE TO DETERMINE SEVERAL THINGS.
    1. LEAKS
    2. OPERATIONAL CHECKS, DOES IT MAKE POWER, ESPECIALLY TAKE-OFF POWER
    Were these checks done? By who? Let's see the maintenance signoff in the aircrafts log book please?

    • @jacobrzeszewski6527
      @jacobrzeszewski6527 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Two reasons, piston aircraft spool up almost instantly, which is good for short takeoff and landings. whereas even the best turboprops take a few seconds. They’re also easier to work on by common mechanics.
