    very informative. Using 3 UltraSync One units with 2 DSLRs, 2 Atamos mon/rec and a Tascam 4 channel field rec. will start testing this soon. i just hope Atomos continues support for them as they bought the company and is integrating the tech into their product line.

    Let's say I only won't to "align" clips filmed in one camera. So if I stopped recording and started again in 30 seconds, I have the timeline with the two clips having a 30 second space between them. Is this possible? (Sony Fx3)

    So input on camera is 3 pins, I assume stereo, or just mono? Is it possible to write to the camera (with no "adapters" for xlr etc) timecode AND audio to left and right channels, right?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the tentacle sync e has two channel audio. One for a mic and one for the time code. That’s when you use the TRS cable to go into the mic port. Tentacle also has dedicated cables to split that and have a proper mic on the mic channel. And they have cables for all kinds of other timecode systems.

      So you are having good luck with DaVinci converting the audio track to timecode that can be synced with the F6 clips? Am I correct in thinking you can select all of the video clips and audio clips at once and selecting sync by timecode, and all of the clips and audio tracks will be synced correctly? I’m completely new to using timecode and trying to get confirmation before I blow 500 dollars on a set of tentacle syncs, or just use the f6 line out to my camera like you mentioned.

    Hello, thank you for the video, it all works great, only my audio channels get grouped into one channel. I can still see the individual channels but i cannot seem to edit them individually. In the synch fast video from a fellow youtuber there is a very lengthy explanation how to get them to be individual channels again but somehow I don't get it to work. I would very much appreciate an answer.

      My guess would be this: hook up a Sync-E to the Mini Jack at the top XY capsule and then use that option - or just record the Timecode signal i to the audio port there and sync it in DaVinci with the files you got from the Track E.

    To be clear, the line out time code video you posted really only works if you are using a single camera. For multiple cameras you would need something like the tentacle sync package, correct?

    • @ChrisSpiegl

      You could, in theory, split the line out timecode and then connect two cameras. I have actually done this in the studio.

      @@ChrisSpieglI’m using windows, 1 recorder and 1 camera that takes audio timecode input. If I import all of my audio clips into DaVinci, I can convert all of their audio timecode to linear timecode accurately in DaVinci, then select all of my video clips, and all of these audio clips with converted audio timecode, select sync by timecode, and now all of the video and audio clips are synced properly? Just trying to make sure that DaVinci *accurately* converts the audio timecode to the linear timecode, given I don’t have access to the Mac tentacle sync studio app. Let me know please 😊

  • @MichaelScrip

    When you use DaVinci Resolve to convert the audio timecode to metadata timecode... does the new timecode actually get written back to the file? Or is it only updated inside the Resolve project? I'm a Premiere Pro user and I know it doesn't handle audio timecode at all. But if I can use Resolve to update the file metadata... that would fix the problem! I'm definitely interested in your upcoming Premiere Pro tutorial. Thank you for all these timecode videos! I have a Tentacle Track E and a Sound Devices MixPre-6 II. And my next purchase will be a couple Sync E boxes for my cameras. 2021 is the year of timecode for me! :)

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can totally relate to that sentiment. Adding Timecode is a huge step but a good one.
      In terms of premiere pro, I’ll have a video about that and how the meta data can be updated coming up. In that video I’ll cover how to add meta Timecode to the files (hint: apparently it has to be done via transcoding) and the alternative is to do the syncing in Resolve and then export an XML sequence back to premiere.
      However, if you already are using the Track E and possibly in the future the Sync E, then getting the Tentacle Sync Studio will probably be the better / faster workflow.
      Thank you for leaving a comment and stoping by. I appreciate that. ☺️

    Great intro to ltc ingest in Resolve. I just abandoned Premiere (after 30years!!!) coz ltc is not there and I’m fed up trying to make a multi cam workflow from ltc sources.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can see the appeal. Personally I still have things I am missing in DaVinci Resolve that I can’t get to work for me. So I’m with Premiere Pro at this point - kinda hoping they pull things together someday.
      Or Resolve comes around and does things I need my way. 😂

    • @rallymax2
      @rallymax2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrisSpiegl lumetri will be the biggest loss for me as I know the workflow but resolve is the colorist defacto so maybe it’s time to start using that.
      It’s tough for me coz I worked in post in the 90’s. I left the industry for tech. I want to put up TH-cam videos of my workshop hobby but don’t want to spend for production equipment. But that’s a direct conflict with my self inflicted quality and wirkflow standards.
      It’s tough in the low end wanting to stay under a few hundred dollars but get a working workflow.
      I use 3 cameras for my workshop videos and do the same operation multiple times so trying to sync with audio is a nonstarter. So I have to use ltc. Even Tenticle devices are expensive in the zero budget game so I have to rig up little circuits - like line to mic attenuation and custom cables with a simple battery circuit to fake out the gain on canon dslr.
      Ironically I found your video _after_ voting for ltc on the Adobe user forum. It’s up to 116 now. I wonder if that enough.
      Thx for making the video.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rallymax2 Thanks for sharing your insights and what you are building. Yes, I started with rigging the cable version of timecode as well… but that's not really working well (as you mentioned, a attenuation cable is in order). I hope that will work out for you.
      And maybe, over time, the budget for your gear can grow as well and then some Tentacle Sync would be awesome 👍.
      Happy shooting 🌸.
